I don't know, but I think that the doctrine for tank combat would have the tanks spread out a bit more from each other, but close enough to provide interlocking and covering fires for each other.
Less than a Dozen Pershings were lost in the Korean War, the North Koreans/Chinese lost around 250 T34/85 T34/76 from all sources, Tank,Bazooka,Planes,Artillery etc
I thought they did lost around 60 of them throughout Korean War. Especially during their retreat from North Korea. Even 2 of Pershings were lost around Chosin Reservoir.
Thats probably the entire Total Damaged and Destroyed of which only a few were destroyed, most by either Mines or Enemy Infantry, usually ambush at night attacks, they would try and swarm a US Tank throw grenades and satchel charges down the engine vents,I would possibly except,at the very most the total loss ,meaning destroyed unrepairable not more than 2 dozen, almost all by either Mines or Infantry since the T34/85 could not penetrate the M26 frontal armor even at point blank while the 90mm on the M26 was able to penetrate the frontal armor and exit the rear.Later in the war the M26 was being replaced by the M46 Patton, had a more powerful engine and transmission, M26 had a hard time on the mountainous terrain in Korea.Check out History Channel """Greatest Tank Battles Korea"" Season 2 Episode 2. A total of 34 US tanks were knocked out by North Korean armor, including 6 M26 and 8 M46 tanks, of which only 15 were totally lost. The US tanks knocked out 97 T-34/85 tanks and claimed a further 18 as probables.
@@sebitza1000 There was a case where one round from a Pershing took out two T34's, the round went through the turret of the first T34 and penetrated the turret of the second T34, behind it.
Fun fact: During the early to mid war period. In a weird twist of circumstances, even though both sides field their veteran tankers against each other. They are totally oblivious on what to do against enemy tanks in battle. For US tankers, most of the early deployed tanker are Pacific Front veteran based from Japan or total rookie trained under them. These tanker only ever fought Japanese tin can like Type 95 or Type 97 tanks which are completely outclass by their Sherman and could easily be destroy without much trouble. But when they have to face a European-made tanks like T-34 with superior armor and guns, their performance drop greatly leading to severe lost of American tanks. The situation would not change until veterans from European front with combat experience against German armor joins the fight. As for the Korean, while they're an expert as a guerilla anti-tank unit infantry. They have very little experience fighting in a tank or as an armor unit, if at all. The best they have in 1950 was just a group of volunteer trained under Chinese unit, which itself also train under Soviet guidance. But these guys only account to around 15% of their whole armored force. The rest are crewed by regular infantry who goes to train under the aforementioned Chinese-trained senior with mix result.
Don,t forget the M26 was classified as a Heavy, the T34/85 was a Medium. I would probably except possibly a total of not more than 30 M26 damage and destroyed, maximum, most damaged and later repaired and back in service, later M26 replaced by M46 near the end of the war stronger engine and transmission.
Long barreled Sherman 76 Easy 8's took out the T34/85s easily too. When they went toe to toe with the Pershings it was overkill. The British Centurions were also more than a match. Only the Chafee wasn't, though if the 76 gun upgrade had gone through for those they would have been able to stand up to the initial tank push by the NKs. What would have been more threatening is if the Soviets had exported the T-44s and IS II and IIIs. Might have seen more French Panthers in the Asia. Excellent video as always Sturmfuhrer.
Theres a scene about a M24 engage 2 T34/85 on History Channel Series ""'GREAT TANK BATTLES"" and the Gunner with the New York accent talking about it Season 2

So much power in those bodies
North Koreans and Chinese Tankers were poorly trained also, US had much better Tankers and Tanks!
