Finally a full explanation of a filter roller. Thanks Thomas, Not sure its a solution for my DYI sump but I now have the information I need to figure it out.
I don’t have a KLIR but I do have a roller mat for mechanical filtration in my sump, makes everything so much easier, I only have to change once every couple months, and replacement rolls aren’t that expensive, it was a little tricky to change at first but it gets easier the more you do it.
I have had a Klir Di-4 roller filter for just over a year and would recommend anything other than this companies filters. Between poor customer service and a poorly thought out controller these things are more a headache than not. We have been woken up numerous times due to it malfunctioning and randomly running non stop so the filter roll is out within a few days. All this could have been avoided if there were limits on how often it ran and for how long per cycle. These filters are more of a proof of concept and not ready for widespread use.
That's a bummer. Mine has worked flawlessly for about 1 year on my Waterbox. I know nothing about your system, but a few things to look at if you haven't already. I found that having the water sensor pointed away from the incoming water makes it work most consistently. The water level in your sump also needs to be consistent. I also wonder if you have the latest version controller. If mine cycles too frequently in a period of time it will alarm and stop. I have had it happen when cleaning my glass in the tank because all of the stuff I was stirring up was causing it to cycle a lot. Good luck.
People need to stop recommending this product and people need to stop saying "it works flawlessly", it's making people waste money and make a huge mistake. Even IF you get a perfectly functioning product (which a lot of people don't) the inherent design flaws allow water to bypass the filter in so many places (1. under the filter fleece and straight into the sump 2. Between the seal from the filter roller and the sock holder, 3. out the sides of the filter roller cage and into the sump) I give credit to coralvue for trying, but this product does not work. Anyone who says it does is either lying or have no idea how much it's not working. Also saying that the fleece lasts months is a testament to how much water it's not filtering.
looks like im getting one for my waterbox I know when these first came out there were alot bad reviews looks like they updated some parts. on it. thanks
Pulled the trigger on the Di-7 after being hesitant on all the bad reviews. Working great so far but my Apex keeps a close eye on it. I like how they try to sell you a hydros in the process, nice move there. Sounded like a hydros ad to me.
Please do the new fiji one when you can. I see they are pre selling it now. It looks like a good drop in for my fijicube sump but always concerned about new products…
It's designed to fit into a standard 4" sock holder, so it may fit. We haven't tried the Klir in that particular tank yet. That said, Innovative Marine recently announced their own lineup of roller mats for their tanks, so you may want to hold out until you've had a chance to take a look at those 🙂
@@BulkReefSupply That is true, unfortunately, they are only releasing manual rollers from the looks of it. I would like to replace my current implementation of buying filter floss rolls for cheap and cutting them to size myself for something that will be automatic like this. I might purchase and see if it fits as the back chambers to the larger AIO are larger than your normal AIO.
Was looking at this the other day and would get a second unit if they were not marked up so much. Coral View has retail at $159 while you have them at $199. I like mine, but not at $40 over retail.
Love my KLIR I have 2 I run with a master/child setting, Wish they sold a fleece multi pack! Now I didn’t know it worked with the hydros, hmm another reason to get a hydros
Unfortunately no due to the slight differences in filter sock holder size. If it's a Reefer model 170, check this one out instead. They should be in stock soon! www.bulkreefsupply.com/af-rs170-automatic-filter-roller-for-red-sea-170-aquamaxx.html
$213 is steep will wait till they come down . Will stay with filter socks can’t beat $10 bucks at the moment. Honestly not that bad to clean 3 minutes with a pressure washer.
I don't need a fleece roller, my butler stands next to my sump with a pure Egyptian hanky, filtering all fish poop. When the 300 dollar hanky gets dirty we throw it out and buy new. I run out to my money tree for a quick harvest and bam! More Egyptian virgin cotton hanky's.
I like the look of diy sumps so I have a Aqueon 20 long diy sump on a 90gal and I bought the di-4 fleece roller plus the bracket for diy style sumps. This brand of roller mat sucks 👎👎, but it does come with the newer style of motor. It's a pain to change the rolls to a new clean one and feed it through. It comes with 3 whole adapters that goes on to sock whole to fit the roller mat housing. That adapter leaks or steadily drips the dirty tank water right into sump straight by passing the fleece paper no matter how much u turn the whole adapter to try to stop tank water smh ! Putting the optical sensor back on every time when changing roll isn't fun either 😠 smh ! Also, when u put the roll on and feed it through and have it all correctly done and install the fleece paper, it's on too tight . So every time the motor turns the roll the fleece paper rubs against the housing of the unit scraping or squeezing off most of the dirt and sludge and it falls into bottom of sump making this roller mat pointless because your sump gets dirty fast. The dirt and sludge also sticks to the housing maker cleaning process even more pain in the butt ! Too ease my headache I stopped with the fleece rolls and just use a sock instead with the diy style bracket and works way better. My sump is so much cleaner but then again I'm back to washing socks. I do like the bracket style for diy sump setups thoe. The way the drain pipes are setup to flow in a back chamber then flows up and into sock verses drain pipes directly in sock. Those who have this brand of roller mat know the issues I've mentioned. I wouldn't recommend the roller mat unit but I would recommend the bracket for diy sump setups if u don't mine socks. I actually bought a di-7 bracket only, for 7" for my bigger tank with a diy Aqueon 40 breeder sump. I don't mine socks.
I need filter something like this but the reviews on this are horrible. I'm afraid to spend all that money on something I can't even return if it doesn't work. And f.y.i., you guys really need to cut the prices of a lot of these products. I can find a ton of stuff on your site so much cheaper somewhere else. Just saying.
Here we are in a hobby that already carries a black eye with environmentalists and climate warriors. But yet companies push this use it toss it mentally, we have become a throw away society. And over exaggerated examples, if your getting food down your over flow then you are way over feeding or need to read the directions about the feed mode.

Hope they make a HOB version of flease roller soon for guys like me that have no sump or AIO chamber.
Would eliminate my HOB mechanical filter.

You're like the Linus of Aquariums!...... Or is he the Thomas of Tech?? Great vid!

I wonder if this will fit in my IM SR-80 Pro 2. I have a 4in filter sock on one side of the AIO back chambers.

My Aquamaxx roller has been a game changer for me.
Will it work on a eshopps ar-100 sump
Will this work for Waterbox Marine DX 110?

They were recently on sale, but $199.99 is the current MAP price set by CoralVue now that the sale is over.
I want one but I don't think the fit Trigger sumps
Unfortunately, not without modification. The Trigger sumps have oval shaped holes while this drop in roller will need a round hole.
Can one of these be add in aio in fish tank . 25 Innovative marine Lagoon
Unfortunately, we're not aware of an AIO friendly roller mat option.
Has anyone tried something like this in an aio like innovative marine nuvo 50
I haven't seen anything that will work in an AIO system...yet!
Love the LED Mr. Chili cameo! (Starts @2:16)
Is that the Eshopps Nano Cube Refugium/sump?
Also, is that an Alkatronic on your tank?! :D
Yes and Yes!
Hi, nice video. Is this roller 110/220V?
will this fit in the back of nuvo fusion 40gal i wonder
Unfortunately it won't work in the back of an AIO tank like the Nuvo 40. It needs a standard 4" filter sock holder.
Have they made and adapter for the Red Sea 4” yet?
Not that we're aware of, yet.
Love my KLIR I have 2 I run with a master/child setting, Wish they sold a fleece multi pack! Now I didn’t know it worked with the hydros, hmm another reason to get a hydros
mother/child is waaayyy better than casual references to slavery.
@@b-s-8742 yeah your right that does sound better, didn’t think of that, thanks!
Wonder if this fits a red sea 170!

This does not work for someone with an Eshopps sump or a sump with a rectangular influent hole for the sock.
$213 is steep will wait till they come down . Will stay with filter socks can’t beat $10 bucks at the moment. Honestly not that bad to clean 3 minutes with a pressure washer.

"Mother" "child" vs "master slave " lol, nice but sounds funny, when used to the "old saying"
I have only heard bad things about them. Get a real roller filter if you want one, it's not hard at all to modify a sump!
I change mine everyday. Lol
I’ll be adding two to my new tank I’m setting up!
Unless BRS adds it, you will have to make sure to get the Y power adapter from Coral View.
haha for that price nah; ill pass
