Hi! This is kind of surreal for me to be writing this comment, but I’ve just graduated from Univ in 2020 and the room you have now in this video - Staircase 10 Room 2? - was my room in third year (before we all got kicked out of main site due to covid)! I did English and went through many an essay crisis in that study and so have very very fond memories of that set of rooms - so it’s lovely to see how nicely you’ve done it up and to learn that it’s in such good hands!
The room used to be reserved for organ scholars so it look some wrangling with the domestic bursar for me to be able to get the room in 3rd year (I was v high on the ballot but didn’t really like any of the other rooms) and the Univ artist-in-residence (a novelist in 2nd year then an avant-guarde sculptor when I was living there) lived in the same staircase too.
Anyway - I was so pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon your channel but have really enjoyed the content you make! The whole covid situation made me realise how much I wish I had documented/photographed more of my time at Univ and it’s lovely to be able to vicariously relive my uni days through your channel!
I’m so sorry that you’ve had to go through freshers’ and 1st year with everything that’s going on in the world right now, but you seem to have made the most of it nonetheless! Hope you’re enjoying the awesome set of rooms you have (if you’re allowed to move back to Oxf, for Trinity?) - they’re probably the best rooms in all of Univ! And thank you so so much for making this channel and these videos! - they’ve made the dreariness of graduate/corporate life in a post-corona world slightly more bearable.
P.S. a pro-tip: the window-sills on the High Street side are actually hidden cupboards, with massive cellars underneath, really useful if you ever run out of the (plentiful) storage space already in the room; they were especially handy for when you have to move out over vacations - I managed to store all my things in them over Christmas.
    Best of luck,
    Calvin

Thanks Calvin! Comments like this one genuinely make my day - it's lovely to hear from one of the previous residents of Room 2, Staircase 10!
It's an amazing room with so much character; I've always been especially intrigued by the etching dated 1832 on one of the windows on the High Street side. I have discovered the hidden cupboards - one of them is locked but I've had a peek in the other one! I'm still quite surprised I got the room as just a 1st year choral scholar honestly, couldn't have got much luckier.
I'm currently studying at home, unfortunately, however I'm optimistic that we'll be back for Trinity - return is over 2 months off so I think the national situation will have improved by then, but obviously it's tough to call. If I'd known we'd be in national lockdown in Hilary I would have certainly brought my Univ cushion back with me, lol. The Oxford workload is keeping me busy - however, I am rather missing the (admittedly, reduced) Oxford social life which I did have last term. I think it's the extra curricular stuff that makes studying at Oxford worth it!
Once again, thanks for watching the channel and I'm glad you've enjoyed the content! Rest assured that those rooms will (hopefully) be back in safe hands come Trinity. :P

It will probably be quite interesting for you next year seeing a bunch of people who got in using your tips for engineering

Unfortunately I'm locked up in self-isolation (I really shouldn't have to be, but long story...) however college and a wider university tour is something I'd like to do in future!

Sorry to ask but I’m a bit of a dilemma, I study the same A levels as you did along with Economics and I’m wondering whether or not I should drop it as I would like to study engineering at uni but some friends told me that that having a fourth a level would increase my chances of getting admitted by top unis as it could show I am able to handle a greater workload.

Hi Bob! I think it depends partly on where you are applying and how much you enjoy Economics. I'm assuming you're in Year 13 if you're considering your application at this time.
Oxford, from my experience, don't seem to care too much about a 4th A-Level. Yes, it may well be beneficial if you can do it and it does demonstrate time management, however it means you have less time to focus on your other 3 subjects. Oxford offers are only based on 3 grades, though this varies between unis. From personal experience, a friend of mine who did 4 A-Levels and went on to do Physics at Hertford regretted not doing 3 as he felt his grades would have been better if he'd dropped one subject. I'd argue that you'd be best carrying on 3 subjects to maximise your preparation time for admissions tests and interviews if you have them.
That's just my personal take. Hope that helps!
