SB19 is a Filipino boy band formed in 2016 by ShowBT Philippines. The group is composed of Pablo, Stell, Ken, Justin, and Josh.[1] Their debut single "Tilaluha" (lit. 'Stop crying') was released on October 26, 2018, marking their official debut as a group.[2] They became the first Southeast Asian act to be nominated on the Billboard Music Awards,[3][4] and the first Southeast Asian act to make an appearance in the top 10 of the Billboard Social 50.[5][6] SB19 promotes its music as part of Pinoy pop, a popular sub-genre of Original Pilipino Music.[7]
Name
The letters in the group's name were taken from the initials of their former Korean management company, ShowBT. The number 19 is derived from the country calling codes of South Korea (+82) and of the Philippines (+63)- the difference of 82 and 63, and the sum of the digits (8 + 2 + 6 + 3). It symbolized the collaboration of the two countries in the formation of the group.[8] The members themselves, however, used the phrase "Sound Break"-for the goal to "break into the music scene"[9] and improve the quality of Philippine boy groups.
Fandom and symbolism
In 2019, the boy band revealed their official logo, signifying the group's struggles, aspirations, and the people behind their success. In the same month, the boys also dropped their official color which is sky blue, representing confidence and sincerity. The same year, SB19 also unveiled through a Facebook Live video their official fandom name, A'TIN, which is pronounced as "eighteen" and in Tagalog, the word "Atin" means "ours". [10]
Career
2016-2018: Formation and early years
SB19 was formed by ShowBT Philippines, the Philippine subsidiary of ShowBT Group in Korea. After the members were selected from hundreds of auditionees during a talent search in 2016, they underwent the same type of training provided to K-pop idols. They were supposed to be performers only on the company's events and activities but former CEO Geong Seong Han decided to launch them as a boy group.[11] The group debuted with Josh, Pablo, Stell, Ken, and Justin on October 26, 2018, with the ballad single "Tilaluha". However, their initial efforts at promotions, mostly in schools and malls, were met with a "lukewarm reception".[12]
2019: "Go Up" and rising popularity
SB19's second single "Go Up" was released on July 19, 2019.[13] Pablo described the song as their "last shot" because they had decided to disband if their career did not progress after.[14] Unexpectedly, they gained public attention after the dance practice video of the song was uploaded which was later shared by a fan on Twitter and Facebook.[15] Opportunities opened and the group started to appear in multiple radio and television outlets, both local and international.[16]
On November 20, 2019, SB19 became the first Filipino act to appear on the Billboard Next Big Sound chart.[17][18] They also became the first Filipino act to enter the Billboard Social 50, debuting at number 28 on the week of December 28, 2019.[19][20] Jeff Benjamin of Billboard noted that a growing international fan-base had aided their appearance in the chart. He added that "more artists [will] continue to look East for inspiration and a larger audience".[21] Forbes remarked that the localization of ShowBT of the K-pop model is not unique, but SB19 is the first in the Philippines to succeed due to their strategic use of social media-the main factor of SB19's Social 50 chart appearance.[22]

The group announced that they will embark on a free nationwide concert tour on December 7, entitled "SB19: Get in the Zone". On the date when registration for tickets were opened for their concert in Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay, tickets were quickly sold out in 3 Minutes. They were able perform in three other cities - Silay, Cagayan de Oro and Legazpi. Unfortunately, the planned concerts to be held in various major cities in the Philippines were indefinitely postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.[23]
On December 25, Sony Music Philippines announced that SB19 had signed a recording contract with them,[24] and on the same day, the group released their third single, "Alab (Burning)", under the new record label.[25][26]

Thank you for your RV to our dear SB19 ❤. I enjoyed your heartfelt appreciarion of their live vocals. I was not sure if you have the english cc on, but if not, try viewing it again even on your own time now, so you would not miss out on the rich lyrical content of this song. Most of their songs are composed by Pablo (guy in adidas jacket). Do continue on exploring their Pagtatag EP, it encompasses different genres. Typically I recommend first view their MV or lyric video or visualizers first so you can get english cc. Sometimes some of their Wishbus performances may not have it. Pablo's songs also uses a lot of wordplay is his other songs, so it helps to understand the meaning of the lyrics. He is able to convey messages often hard to discuss in real time.
Then go to the live performances either on Wishbus, tv guestings, concert fancams, stage performances..they have such amazing vocal prowess and stage presence truly worth seeing live. For me mybmost favorite song of theirs will always be MAPA, that song led me to them❤.
