  • Dirk Nowitzki is an old man. He taught Karl-Anothony Towns a lesson or two last season with a vintage 29 point performance last season. Towns might very well be the best player in the game in a few seasons, but like many future hall of famers, he had no answer for Nowitzki. The very same thing could be said about Michael Jordan. On a Sunday afternoon in 2003, Dirk gave Jordan and the Wizards bucket after bucket on national television in a really fun overtime game. Both Dirk and Jordan played an absurd 52 minutes in the game, which happened to be a trend for Dirk under Don Nelson.
    Steve Nash chipped in with some clutch baskets in overtime to finally put the Wizards away. It's always fun to watch old Nash and Nowitzki game and remember how potent they really were. At one point in the broadcast Bill Walton wonders aloud why Nowitzki is the best player on the best team in the league but nowhere to be found in the MVP conversation. Walton is also a gem in this video.

    Video description forgot to mention that Michael Jordan was 40 years old at the time of this game, and "old man" Dirk was actually a young 24 years old. Also, MJ slightly outplayed the much younger Dirk.
    MJ - 14/26 54% shooting, 30 pts, 9 reb, 3 asst, 2 stl
    Dirk - 11/23 48% shooting, 29 pts, 10 reb, 2 asst, 1 stl

    • @twobigjets
      @twobigjets 7 лет назад +11

      No star could have taken that Wizards team to the playoffs. But aside from that, no hall of famer has ever won 6 Finals MVPs, or 3 Finals MVPs in a row. MJ did both, and he did the latter twice. Who can compete with that fact?

    Not here to ride MJ's jock. But MJ switched on to Dirk halfway through the game and I only saw Dirk scoring on MJ on 2 baskets max....maybe the guards are giving the ball to Dirk (gotta watch the whole game) but MJ did sort of have an answer for Dirk (making the Mavs guard hesitant to give Dirk the ball). Or perhaps Don Nelson thinks that it is more advantageous to let Nash take Lue.
    In conclusion, there's too much things that we have to watch the full game to understand but to say MJ has no answer for Dirk in this game is not valid

    • @tgc281
      @tgc281 4 года назад

      Absolutely mj has no chance at guarding dirk one on one. In his prime or at 40 yrs old. Nothing against mj obviously but it’s a obvious mismatch.

    • @shammycat3538
      @shammycat3538 3 года назад

      @@tgc281 agreed, those two shots he made on Jordan were probably the only two times Jordan guarded him. Even prime Jordan would have no answer for a prime, 7 foot Dirk Nowitzki. No one did, and that is a big mismatch.

    Very disappointing year for jordan, only averaging 20 points a game and all do to knee surgery the previous year and the 8 week set back of broken ribs in 2001 that slowed jordan down in the 2001-2002 season and then those two setbacks carried over to the 2003 season. But the knee surgery was the worst and the number one reason why I hate knee surgery because of what it did to jordan. It was the only surgery he had in his entire nba career and it fucked him up bad. At least his knee surgery was at the end of his career with wizards and not closer to his prime.
