Magnificent and clinical performance ! This was Domestic level Vs World level ! Chunky is still very much "A work in progress" So full credit to Jimmy Mac, who will guide Degale to a World title, though all in good time. We may have our very own "Marvelous One" in the making - Lets hope so!
De Gale is definitely one of the most gifted British prospect I have ever seen. Currently the super middleweight division is packed with great fighting talent however I genuinely believe he can become one of the greats of British boxing if not the greatest Britain's ever had.
I have to admit that at this moment in time Ward ( 23-0) and Froch (27-0) have 'top level' experience on their side and Degale had only fought 21 pro rnds up until the Smith fight . Having said that, Smith didn't bring out the best in Degale , as yet we haven't seen Degale under any pressure . Have Faith Young Man - 'The Best Is Yet To Come!'
just shows you how much some champs want to hold onto a belt without fear of losing it... i mean both groves and degale have beaten smith but smith gets a world title shot before degale
This was a big fight for both boxers, as we all know a British champion is won to get to where it is, a crack at a world title. Jason Louis-Fernand. 31/12/2010.
thank you thank you thank you, frank warren. it must be the christmas spirit in you, but not only do you put on this great night of boxing, you give it to us for free on youtube afterwards! i wanna send you a christmas card
yes right on, very good fight, DeGale keeps getting better, this guy has big future if he stays focused. Smith a solid guy but different kinda athlete, DeGale should not rush, take some fights and get in better finish mode and go for a top 10 super middle, he ready now physically but should get more experience before a Bika or Andrade, hope they manage him well, good young man, excellent talent for boxing, looks like could make middleweight 160?? , Ring magaine just wrote a article on DeGale
That's the 1st time I've seen De Gale only ever read about him via Boxing news.Have yet to see Groves too, but based on that which was less than10 pro fights, I'm led to believe? That was a stellar performance from only a handful of pro bouts> Or unless Grove too is something quite special? I think the writing's on the wall? De Gale will progress to World Champion at some point, make no bones. He wasn't an Olympic gold medalist without good reason?
DeGale has a lot of talent. Only 9 fights he needs a lot more seasoning but I think he could be a very good pro. He still has a lot of amateur in him, some useless flurries, slapping not turning over his punches, but in due time he will begin to mold into a professional prizefighter.
great work from DeGale. He picked Smith off relaxed anad casual. Every time Smith tried to up the pace and attack DeGale used his speed to get the better of the exchange then return to picking off the rounds
Degale a highly skilled prospect attacks from strange angles and is precise still a long long way to go till he is at world level sometimes he gets a bit carried away when his man is hurt and leaves himself open seen here 32:20 a world class operator would pepper him, but as his career goes on he can mature and iron his imperfections out
doesnt matter how fast degale is, he was allowed to find his rhythm in this fight. i had hoped smigga was gonna put it on him a bit more and throw him off but it looked as though he tried to play the counter puncher again. i was gutted!
Groves won but only just. They'll meet again at some point. Maybe Degale has learnt from his loss and change his vile manner in which he constantly tried to belittle a fellow pro boxer? Big congrat's to Groves especially for the dignified manner with which he's carried himself throughout the build up.
Degale is class - its just a shame he's such a prick outside the ring. I watch every round waiting for someone to knock him out, cant help it. Theres no doubting his quality in the ring though.
@Ronz93 Looking at your previous posts I can see you're very knowledgeable of the fight game. I'd be honest, maybe I'm too optimistic. I look at the fact (1) He's an Olympic gold medallist & you don't get those by washing cars; (2) He only had 9 fights & their combined record is 110-41-1; (3) He's British champ in his 9th fight & fought a 29-1 guy to get it. For most other fighters you could say he was rushed. On the downside, I don't know if McDonnell can bring the best out of him.
A good performance by DeGale, but only a B- from me. That is, he needs to tidy up a few minor flaws which I am sure he will as his career progresses. I think he is capable of beating Brian Macgee, but needs at least another 12 to 18 months of experience before he fights the bigger names like Froch, Bute, Ward and Dirrell who would be too good for him at the moment.
Degale is super fast and accurate, but i think Groves hits harder.. i think its gonna be fight to not be missed, if Degale keeps calm and composed, he'll pick Groves apart and win by TKO. But if he gets anxious and makes mistakes Groves might just win by points.. im gonna for Degale rnd 6 TKo, i knw Degale is a nob but this guy is talented, super quick i think ward and probably this guy are the quickest in the MW divison, throws sik combos, defos future world champ
@TOMizFTW Very true... Roy was a class act out of the ring as well so I think its different to say someone like floyd or tyson. They train hard and sometimes have rivalries against other fighters so dam right they should celebrate!!! Ricky hatton jumped up and down whenhe won fights but all of a sudden skysports commentators were like ''pacquiao should not be celebrating here'' when he smoked him... i bet they wouldnt of said tht if hatton had of been the one throwing that ko punch!
@leedriver10 Degale knew he could get away with that jab against Smith, that's why he used it to set up punches. He's getting better in every fight and I think he definitely has world class potential. Beating the British champion easily is a good sign although admittedly Paul Smith wasn't a very skilled opponent by any means. Still, Degale showed he was in a completely different league.
GB Great Britain British boxing at it's best, but the better of the two on the night is James Degale by a ninth round stoppage, and new super middleweight British boxing champion James Degale, and as for the former British super middleweight champion Paul Smith better luck next time. Jason Louis-Fernand. 17/12/2010.
@Ronz93 I agree he needs to go over to Roach or Steward. That's why I said I don't know about McDonnell. I think he can only bring him so far. So yeah, you're right in saying he's limited in spite of his talent. I dunno, Frank Warren likes to go cheap on the trainer so he can save himself a couple of quid. Remember the guy Khan had who recommend him fight Breidis Prescott? Who the heck was he? Warren probably thought, he's Cuban so he must be good & because he's Cuban I can pay him peanuts.
Too quick and accurate for groves i think. Both great prospects but i just think Degale is too slick. He is extremely accurate and will catch groves coming in. Degale wining with a late stoppage.
I can't stand Colin Hart's comments about Degale being too cocky for his liking. He's been commentating for years. It is that cockiness that makes them more interesting than just plain talented fighters. Muhammad Ali, Ray Leonard, Hector Camacho and Naseem Hamed are just a few. Degale's cockiness will appeal to Americans which means more money in his pocket. That's what matters. Hart should know this.
@BoxingBadBoy77 Well, I know that the trainer's wages are a percentage of the boxer's wages. But Warren was a Don King disciple at one point till they split back in the late 90s. We know that Don King controlled everything including who trained who. I can't think that Warren had no say as to the trainer Khan employed.
Behave Paul it was never to be u just weren't good enough however Callum your young bro will kick all of these arses u watch and new champion of the world Callum smith
@BoxingBadBoy77 i cant beleive people think degale is the next big thing..lol based off what?? no power man beleive me..ok can you picture him in with kirkland??angulo??sergio?? degale is 25 yrs old so he is at his prime now..its not like khan when he was barely 20 and was fighting for commonwealth belts and stuff..degale is an ok boxer but something tells me he can be hurt or stopped cos he tends to fight from a laid back style..those type of fighters usually get halted when facing brawlers
DeGale box beautifully and just outbox and overpower a lesser boxer in Paul Smith. Smith chin is questionable as shows against George Groves. He was ko in round 2!
all though degale was winning and way a head i think ref stopped fight to early. smith was british champ with 30 fights.no Bum or mug. Degale class tho
James DegGale is the next Joe Calzaghe. Handspeed - Excellent Timing - Excellent Power - Good Defence - Excellent He can fight from range, in the pocket.. he can switch hit. He's got every tool in the box and is the most complete 168 lber right now. Can he beat Andre Ward? Hard to say right now, he's skillfully better but Ward just mobs opponents and headbutts, holds and hits them with one arm on the ropes. Kinda cheating tactics.
@BoxingBadBoy77 khan is not a lethal puncher but he has a pacquiao type style and doesnt wait around or waist time..he gets down to business ALWAYS..he throws punches in bunches and gives the fans what they want..whats ur take on the mcloksey fight??i think khan needs to be carefull of pauls counters and that right hook but he should win it pretty convincingly by 7ish..again khan will win cos of his fast paced style workrate like the paulie fight
@manos3790 Hmmm. I tend to agree man. I ALWAYS knew though that Degale would tear up Smith. No dissin, but that guy is SHAT! Groves? Not sure but IMO, thing James has his number. But we shall see...
@RizoSaysAha That was just the start of UFC`s prime mate, Look where its at now, Dont get me wrong Im still a massive Boxing fan and always will be as I love watching most sports. Im just pissed like everyone else that the sport is dying. No the UFC aint helping but they aint exactly helping themselves are they ? A quote from mayweather " I only fight one a year so you better come and watch " Once a year is no good for the sport at all.
@rottweilerfromhell I used to think he was a dick, but he's really not that bad. Don't judge people too quickly. He's going to be a massive fighter for us too.
Degale is TOP. I really get confused by people that don't like a cocky confident boxer, I like fights, I like smack talk. There's nothing like a guy that walks and talks smack. It's organised violence ffs. What do people want him to give every fighter head before and after fights???? For me Pacman would be much better if he talked smack as well, you watch one 24/7 and it's boring as shit.
Smith was gonna be KO'ed anyway, but that stoppage was a bit fast, I see that referee always stopping fights early, these men came to fight, they know they could seriously be hurt, your looking out for them yes but I don't think they want you to.
I know I hate early stoppages too but to be fair to the refs it's a thin line between stopping it early and letting someone take an unnecessary battering. These boxers are warriors and can pretend they are fine when really their brain is scrambled.
la dodgers 4 life He wouldn't have lasted much longer anyway, the ref did his job. If the ref would have let Smith take an unnecessary brain battering everyone would be moaning about it. Better he stop it then than let Smith take anymore of it, a good fight nonetheless.

sharman chand Froch likes come forward fighters, people who are going to stand and brawl. James Degale is awkward, swings from all angles, keeps the distance nicely, but when things are close up he's still affective. Just my opinion, I think Degale wins.
Degale's timing is very special
degale is underrated and is probably the most talented boxer the uk has p4p, it will be proven once he fights the froch vs groves winner
@Ronz93 I TOTALLY agree with your assessment of Jimmy Mac as a trainer for a style such as Degale and where the boy is going...
Magnificent and clinical performance !
This was Domestic level Vs World level !
Chunky is still very much "A work in progress"
So full credit to Jimmy Mac, who will guide Degale to a World title,
though all in good time.

Before this fight I wasn't impressed with DeGale one bit. However, this fight was pretty conclusive; he's going on to big things.
doesnt matter how fast degale is, he was allowed to find his rhythm in this fight. i had hoped smigga was gonna put it on him a bit more and throw him off but it looked as though he tried to play the counter puncher again. i was gutted!
James Degales funny the way he goes on. All these boxers have big egos but Degales funny with his and is probably a nice bloke away from the front.
thx for upload!
Groves won but only just. They'll meet again at some point. Maybe Degale has learnt from his loss and change his vile manner in which he constantly tried to belittle a fellow pro boxer? Big congrat's to Groves especially for the dignified manner with which he's carried himself throughout the build up.
Degale is never going to be ready for eubank
shocked at quality of the video all rest are top quality
what one the song degale came out to?

excellent fight 4 DeGale
george grove must be trembling at this spectacle.

degale throws his punches in a weird way
I like degale attitude goes in other peoples backyards , u cant knock the lad
colin hart you are dreadful, that man should never be allowed near a microphone, television or newspaper again

Based on what I've seen of Groves and DeGale so far in their short careers, DeGale beats Groves.
In all fairness degales looked ok. I still think he'll be ironed out soon tho!!
DeGale's an interesting boxer, perhaps even somewhat underrated. Smith vs Abraham? Perfect for Abraham to face such a predictable and stiff boxer.
GB Great Britain British boxing at it's best, but the better of the two on the night is James Degale by a ninth round stoppage, and new super middleweight British boxing champion James Degale, and as for the former

Howard Foster took his time to stop this one.
I love day watching Paul Smith get beat up

Just in James degale vs Andre Direll
@TheLexyboy He will be around for a long time
James Degale will ko Groves no doubt, different class
degale against groves will be a more interesting fight.
Behave Paul it was never to be u just weren't good enough however Callum your young bro will kick all of these arses u watch and new champion of the world Callum smith
stoppage was bit quick, hes a hard luck fucker smith, do people in England call him de girl? funny bastard me
@optimum24 Where did you hear that?
@Ronz93 We will see.
degale slaps with his punches!
Paul Smith would maul Groves to bits. Degale made this guy look very Ordinary. So to me, there is only one outcome!!
Can he beat Froch/Dirrel/Ward/Kessler? I don't think so.
It was man against boy in there........... DeGale is a class act..... Smith just a glorified journeyman .....
I AGREE 100%
@jamdowner Warren doesnt pay the trainers
@bm2g STILL does...

Smith took too many big shots and was almost knocked out, the stoppage was correct.
whats up with degale & his elbows?!
DeGale box beautifully and just outbox and overpower a lesser boxer in Paul Smith. Smith chin is questionable as shows against George Groves. He was ko in round 2!
@TheShortstuf11 nahh i think he'll win by KO in the 6th or 7th. Groves will try take the fight into the last half i think
all though degale was winning and way a head i think ref stopped fight to early. smith was british champ with 30 fights.no Bum or mug. Degale class tho
James DegGale is the next Joe Calzaghe.
Handspeed - Excellent
Timing - Excellent
Power - Good
Defence - Excellent
He can fight from range, in the pocket.. he can switch hit.

He's going to be a massive fighter for us too.

For me Pacman would be much better if he talked smack as well, you watch one 24/7 and it's boring as shit.
Smith was gonna be KO'ed anyway, but that stoppage was a bit fast, I see that referee always stopping fights early, these men came to fight, they know they could seriously be hurt, your looking out for them yes but I don't think they want you to.

i had to mute this video after 40 seconds because colin hart pissed me off already. such an awful commentator
@breivom based on what?!
Boxing is shite nowadays!
Not that hes shit, degale has talent he is a good fighter. but 9 fights into his pro career an hes british champion? cmon, hes also european champion isnt he?
Dont think James can stand off and take his time with Groves like this! The Saint will TEAR after him, IMO... A wee bit open though Groves, which for someone who is apretty slick, swith hitting, spiteful puncher with lets face it, quite a nasty mentality like degale, could be made for him...
@casella2k7 He has it in for every talented British fighter lol.
34:54
Haha Rahman guys comment then groves beats up one of the toughest guys in the sport
dont understand this, he had 9 fukin fights an become british champion? sorry but how did he even get a shot at the title? bullshit, i like smith aswell..an hes a scouser
@poola169 He is way to good for anyone at domestic level.
Groves - DeGale in February 2011. Supposed to.
Hope we will see the great fight.
British neighborhood mess, ebat-kolotit :):):)
Like Benn- Eubank, muahaha)))
@MrLeebo123 Mike McCallum was a pro for many years. DeGale has been a pro for all of nine fights. Of course McCallum would have eaten him up. Duh! McCallum would have beaten Hopkins at 9-0, Toney at 9-0, Roy Jones at 9-0, Sergio Martinez at 9-0 and Saul Alvarez at 9-0.
@tombz9 Boxing almost dead now, especially as we are having to rely on nobodies to give us our Boxing fix. I carnt stand Degale but am watching it coz theres nothing else, a few year back I wouldnt of even known who he was never mind watch. UFC is on every month sometimes more, Thats why so many have turned to that.
Paul looked amateurish against degales slick boxing
Degale will never be a world champion
alexanderhamiton201 are you kidding me pavlik has been off the boil for ages now , get real mate , i personally like degale the kid has balls to go into the lions den has for pavilk , an old hopkings batterd him , how much older he is ..? not that he isnt class but if your classing pavilk as a top fighter you need to go back and wacth some more boxing cause you know jack squat
george goves will knock him out
Not quite wot groves managed to do!
Colin Hart big time annoying boxing pundit just behind Gary Newbon
Any one rate degales chances against Froch...
I'd say James has a huge chance of beating Froch.
what makes you guys say degale beats froch? :S
sharman chand Froch likes come forward fighters, people who are going to stand and brawl. James Degale is awkward, swings from all angles, keeps the distance nicely, but when things are close up he's still affective. Just my opinion, I think Degale wins.
maxwell what about bute? ;)
sharman chand My minds not fresh regarding that fight.
the older commentator obviously dont like degale!!!! the commentry is awful im watchin this shiz on silent man lol.! degales a g
@GrimeOverdose Slapper that beat a very tough paul smith.
