@@GrandAdventure Thank you, Marc!! We had a super time! I need to confirm, as I dont know for sure. But, I think the aspen patch on Kebler Pass is one of the largest in the state. The colors from the western start of the Kebler Pass road, by Paonia State Park, up to the turn off for the Lost Lake Campground were supreme! I would say the peak is just starting. Of course, initially in the climb, it was the gamble or scrub oaks that provided the color. However, after about 6 or 8 miles, the aspens began dominating the views. On some of the mountain slopes by that area, there are still some lime green leaves. So, there is more to come on a limited basis. After the Lost Lake Campground turn off, the number of aspens drop off. Once over the pass and past the Lake Irwin turn off, they have definitely peaked. They arent all blown off; they are just to that very light yellow and > 33% are blown off. That post peak color continued on down into town. We went ahead and just drove back to Ouray via down to Gunnison and west thru Montrose. The colors are stunning. The cottonwoods have the valley floors and riverbeds covered. The aspens have the distant upper 1/3rds of most hillsides covered up to treeline. Ha.. I just realized today was the first day I have ever been to Lake Irwin when it wasnt snow and ice covered. Lava Campground , Idaho looks very beautiful with one serious caveat to me at least. It's about 100 yards from hwy 30 so if you're looking for a peaceful quiet place to camp I can't imagine this would be for you. Trucks flying by 24 hours a day some of the drivers running their jake brakes for no reason other than to piss of people around them. Montana is 559 miles east to west. The thing about Wyoming that makes it seem so long is the headwinds that invariably run from the west to the east, and the rolling hills that slow you down if you are traveling west and 35 mph seems to be pretty average for wind speed there and in large semi truck with very little power it was maddening trying to get through that state so I could make it home. Thanks, John! Fun facts about Western States you've provided. What also makes Wyoming feel so long is that there's just so much "nothing." What you say about Lava Campground is true. Unfortunately it's also true about every campground in Lava Hot Springs, and more so. What helps Lava Campground is that it's a) further back than other campgrounds from the railroad tracks that also pass through town, and also b) that as it passes by the campground, US-30 is actually elevated on a berm, such that much of the sound passes above the campground. We're so happy that you found us, Bob! We love our home state, it has so much to offer beyond the National Parks. Many folks don't realize the smorgasbord of outdoor adventure that awaits throughout Utah. Honestly, our preferences mostly lie outside of the state's National Parks because they're far less utilized. We hope that we can help you find your own personal Grand Adventure!
@@GrandAdventure Thank You so much! If you come to SW Idaho be sure to visit Leslie Gulch, which is actually in Oregon but only 75 miles from us here in Boise.
@@bobwallis1757 appreciate the tip! We'll definitely check it out when we're in the area. We made a trip up your way before we started Grand Adventure, and found a tight logging road between Lucky Peak and Idaho City that led to a gorgeous hilltop campsite. We were truck camping in a Tacoma at the time and the road was barely big enough to accommodate that Taco. We've also very much enjoyed Ponderosa State Park in McCall, and Pine Flats west of Grimes Pass.
Not easy to decide which one we enjoyed the most , you have so many places but I think Flaming Gorge is possibly my favourite and zehras and something we would look for if we had the chance of boondocking But all your destinations are great really enjoyed them thanks G&Z
We love having you two along for the ride, thank you! And we do indeed adore that Flaming Gorge spot, it's why we keep returning to it year after year.

Oh, we'll be heading out for sure! Already hatching plans for spring, plus if we get a dry spell in the two-week forecast that may prompt us to head out anyway. @@GrandAdventure Jug Hollow and Snow Canyon SP are my top, two on my maps for the future. Of course, I'll have to revisit your episodes to round out the list. Thanks Marc.
From the video, I preferred your runner ups to your winners. It's hard to pick, isn't it?!?! I took note of South Beach, as we'll be right there this summer. We have reservations for a full service campground near the Hoh rainforest entrance. Maybe we cancel our reservations and take a shot at getting a spot at the beach! Great video! Well put together. What an AMAZING summer you had!
We certainly feel blessed by our 2018 travel season, Tony. And it is definitely hard to pick! As for South Beach, we were lucky and got that spot over the July 4th holiday. There were some folks who had reservations at the nearby Kalaloch Campground and were thinking of moving over to South Beach and eating their reservation.
I will be moving to Az. Shortly and I was wondering if the RV flea market in Quartsite is open year round or just certain times of the year? Thank you.
Hi Mark, We have just discovered your channel and are fans. Already told our family to follow you too. We want to compliment you on your presentation. It really is excellent. Again, just want to tell you how great they are. We just love the photography (you have a real eye for capturing the scenery) and your "travelog" so interesting. Thanks again. PS One question. Why are the joshua trees so named? Just wondering. :D @@GrandAdventure
@@christinefarmilo1851 thank you so much! You're very kind, and we're thrilled to have you here. As for the Joshua tree, Wikipedia says this: "The name Joshua tree is commonly said to have been given by a group of Mormon settlers crossing the Mojave Desert in the mid-19th century: The tree's role in guiding them through the desert combined with its unique shape reminded them of a biblical story in which Joshua keeps his hands reached out for an extended period of time in order to guide the Israelites in their conquest of Canaan. There is, however, no direct or contemporary attestation of this origin, and the name Joshua tree is not recorded until after Mormon contact; moreover, the physical appearance of the Joshua tree more closely resembles a similar story told of Moses."
You have one of the best RV travel channels on RUclips. I'd like to know how you find the dispersed camping spots you go to. Also, do you have any plans on touring the Great Lakes region?
Thank you so much, Larry! One of our earliest videos addressed exactly how we find boondocking sites: ruclips.net/video/TTRw3A-IIZY/видео.html . And yes, we'd love to get to the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region! But due to circumstances it won't be in the short term.
Going right into our INTERESTING CAMPSITES database, Marc, thank you so much! We’re headed west from Texas for February and March, and will check some of these out! I can get into some cheap-to-free hookup!
Excellent, Jim! We're more than happy to help. March is a touch-and-go time for many of these spots as it's still largely winter at that time in the Intermountain West, but your options will increase exponentially if you're still in the area in April.
Mark, one more question I noticed that you do a lot of Boondocking and wonder if you ever worry about your camper being stolen when you go away exploring for the day, given these remote and isolated areas. My wife and I are doing our first ever RV road trip across the country starting in June and we have wondered about this possibility when dry camping in remote ares.
Never a worry at all, Greg, although I usually do put a relatively useless hitch lock on it just to dissuade anyone from taking it. It's far more likely that a patio chair, etc. would disappear, but that's never happened either.
I know my wife and I worry about it. I have some locks I use on the wheels and the hitch but it's still scary to leave it behind. So far no issues though.
My wife and I saw your piece about Flaming Gorge and the Jug hollow area. That peninsula is right up our alley. We plan on visiting in mid June and would like your input. At that time of the year, will we have difficulty finding free camping with water access. We kayak and want to enjoy the water. In your experience, what will our chances be of finding sites with water access. We have a class A but I'm not timid about getting out there. I would appreciate your assessment of how crowded we can expect it to be. Thanks.
Thanks for all the info. I took a driving tour, last October, through Arizona and southern Utah. I was noticing all the BLM signs and a few boondockers scattered about. I had to explain to my travelling companion what it was all about. We don't have much of that here in Texas. There are a few places, though one has to really look for them. Appreciate the list you have compiled! Hopefully, my family can hit some of these spots when we hit the road soon. Take care!!
Hope it helps you and your fam! We know that we're lucky to have so much public land in the Intermountain West. We definitely felt the lack of it heading into the PNW this summer and finding ourselves in campgrounds more often than not; that's not our usual mode of camping. But it's all good, it's about just getting out there and enjoying what you find.
Billy, as we try to avoid RV parks in general, I have to say that we've never stayed in a Thousand Trails park, nor have we really looked at membership. Sorry that we can't help!
Hey Mark, can I ask what software you use for editing? I am a newbie and want to start documenting my travels via videos. Thanks so much, great videos BTW, love your channel.
Thank you, Greg, and absolutely! We use Cyberlink PowerDirector amzn.to/2Viht7K . We find it easier to use than Adobe products like Premiere, yet with sufficient flexibility and features that we can do pretty much what we want in the editing room. And unlike Adobe it doesn't have to be subscriptionware -- you can buy it and actually own it without paying a repeating monthly fee.
Another great option is IMovie which is free to use if you have a MAC. That and Divinci Resolve although that has a little steeper learning curve. I upgraded to Final Cut Pro X which is an upgrade from IMovie. Mac only though.
Great video! My fiancé and I just moved into a rv. We have a very similar channel called rvlyfer. We just subscribed to your channel in excited to watch your videos.
Gordon, we typically either just tour the park in the truck with the dogs, or one of us stays back at the rig to dog-sit while the other goes for a hike, etc. That's one reason that we don't spend a lot of time in National Parks.
Hello, awesome presentation. We have a bumper pull a bit smaller than yours at 20ft. We were thinking of getting a 32 ft fifth wheel, but concerned about getting into some of these great places by being to big and getting stuck, restricted, etc. Is there an ideal rig? A quick opinion would be appreciated from a real traveler the way we would like travel. Thanks
Alan, we're 26' overall (the living space box is 23', the rest is the A-frame and rear bumper) and for what we do, I'm not sure that I'd want much larger. A couple of feet additional would be nice for space, but it's just the two of us and our two dogs and we had no issues traveling "part-time fulltime" for over 5 months this summer with feeling that we really needed more. Of course, though, for maneuverability a fiver is going to tow and turn differently than our bumper pull, and is easier to get turned around for the same length trailer. We're also 11'0" tall and although we have only occasionally had a problem with low branches, a fifth wheel is likely to be taller. We've certainly seen people with decent sized (~35') fifth wheels in many of the areas that we frequent, but for us it just hasn't been worth the hassle to go bigger. Hope this helps in some way and makes some degree of sense, for I feel like I'm rambling.
Love the top 10 video. Not surprised to see your choices here in Colorado. Quick question about your cssino stays... I know that most casinos on the reservations are smoking establishments but have you been to any that are non-smoking or have specific non-smoking areas as i am allergic?

Glad you enjoyed! Specific videos referenced in this one are linked to from this video's description. Thanks for watching!
Very well done, I need to watch it again!
Well then, do let us stop you! 😁
The secret is out! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching, John!
Enjoyed your format. Jenny lake beautiful.
Thanks so much Karen!
Thanks for sharing the wealth!
And thank you for watching, Loren!
Well done!!! I'm saving these for future travels! Keep em coming:)
Thank you CJ! That's exactly the purpose we have for videos like this one.
One of my top 10 “top 10’s”!!! Like the way you categorized these places! Jenny Lake now my #1! Keep up the great videos- truly enjoy!
And we truly enjoy having you here, Cathy -- keep watching those videos! ;-)
I love Utah. This is my second time stationed here at Hill AFB. I love that any kind of camping I want to do is right out my back door.
It certainly has its advantages, Angus! It's a weekender's paradise -- mountains, lakes, and desert all within easy reach. And thank you for your service.
Getting the camper out here in the next couple of weeks to prep it for the end of April. Taking the family to Zion over the Easter weekend.
@@angusmaciver4242 excellent!! Be prepared for crowds in Zion that weekend, however.
Great video. Thank you for the information.
Thank you Vernon, and thanks for watching!
Yesss 😁
Good stuff! Subscribed.
Thank you, Gringo! We're happy to have you here!

Yeah New Mexico... I live in New Mexico...
Thank you so much for sharing this BEAUTIFUL Video... Loved it.
Thank you for the list. We hope to be on the road soon and will now look more toward casinos for those short stops.
Here's wishing you success on the road! We've found casino lots to be quieter and better secured than Walmarts or their brethren. And sometimes you get an amenity or two!
Awesome video my friend 2018 was a great year for you.. great job 👍
Thanks bud! Appreciate it as always.
Getting-our new trailer ready to hit the road this summer
Thank for all the information 😉
You're very welcome, and thanks so much for both watching, and for commenting!
Hey Mark,
Your videos are such a treat and well done. Thank you! I recently moved to Cottonwood Heights, I'll keep my eye out for you. Hopefully @ Alta or maybe camping down in the desert. Cheers!
Thank you, neighbor! Dressed like Kermit the Frog I'm pretty hard to miss at Alta and I'm there most days, so be sure to say hello!
Just found your channel, great info! Now I have 82 Episodes to watch lol.
Thrilled to have you along, Shelly -- thank you! A surprising number seem to have found the channel through this video, for our subscriber numbers have truly skyrocketed since we published this episode.
lol, yup time to binge
@@MDSECTOR terrific!! Thank you, Sean!
They are all good. Only wish I could travel this much.
Thanks for summarizing your adventures. It looks like you know how to explore and have fun! Looks like you double your subscribers in 2 months?
Growth rates in February and March were indescribable. It's returned to more sane levels now, but it continues to exceed our expectations. Thanks so much for your comment!
State parks are our go-to’s for all camping. Until we get more into boondocking. Very detailed review loved it! Also congrats on reaching 3k subs!!!! Hope to join you there one day :) keep up the good work.
Thanks for noticing, folks! Just keep putting out great content and you'll be surpassing us soon enough. When in campgrounds and not boondocking, we too enjoy the state park experience.
New subscriber here and thrilled to find your channel! Wonderful list that will add a lot of new locations to our travels. Excellent photography and scenic choices!
Not as thrilled as we are to have you here, Joyce - thank you so much!
Great video Marc! I just discovered your channel and am looking forward to seeing more! We did the Mighty Five just four months ago and can't stop dreaming about a second visit! LAKE POWELL!!
I have to add another thank you for an excellent channel.
Not a lot of blabber, I really like that!
Thanks so much Frankie! We're grateful that you're here.
Not easy to decide which one we enjoyed the most , you have so many places but I think Flaming Gorge is possibly my favourite and zehras and something we would look for if we had the chance of boondocking
But all your destinations are great really enjoyed them thanks G&Z
We love having you two along for the ride, thank you! And we do indeed adore that Flaming Gorge spot, it's why we keep returning to it year after year.
NO DOGS ON BEACH
So, I hope between those ski days, Marc, you're putting pins on the map for 2019 📌. Had fun seeing your travels and I have plenty of marks on my maps of those places you've been. Enjoy the powder!
Oh, we'll be heading out for sure! Already hatching plans for spring, plus if we get a dry spell in the two-week forecast that may prompt us to head out anyway. Finally, there's some thought about mixing skiing and RV'ing for a winter camping episode. Thanks for watching, as always! BTW, regarding matching pins -- which of our pins matched your own personal top 10?
Thank you.
As far as we know it's seasonal.
Nothing like The Hoh Rain Forest Tied for my best camp.
It's a special place, Joseph, isn't it?
Hi Mark, We have just discovered your channel and are fans. Already told our family to follow you too. We want to compliment you on your presentation. It really is excellent. Lots of information and amazing photography. Many bloggers it's all talk and seeing them and not a lot of scenery. You have a great ratio. Thank you from Down Under. (Australia :-)
Thank you Christine!! Your comments mean an enormous amount to us, and we sincerely appreciate them. Great to have an Aussie viewer!
Hello again Mark. We have been working our way through all your vlogs and are really enjoying them. Just discovered how to give "thumbs up!" A bit tricky on smart TV.
As for the Joshua tree, Wikipedia says this:
"The name Joshua tree is commonly said to have been given by a group of Mormon settlers crossing the Mojave Desert in the mid-19th century: The tree's role in guiding them through the desert combined with its unique shape reminded them of a biblical story in which Joshua keeps his hands reached out for an extended period of time in order to guide the Israelites in their conquest of Canaan. There is, however, no direct or contemporary attestation of this origin, and the name Joshua tree is not recorded until after Mormon contact; moreover, the physical appearance of the Joshua tree more closely resembles a similar story told of Moses."
Best RV sites
Thank you River Runner!
You had quite a summer! Category 11: Best place for dogs :)
Ya think? ;) Great idea for #11!
Thanks.
You should have no problem at all getting a waterfront site, especially Sunday-Thursday. Have fun -- you'll love it!
Little House on the Road has a lot of boondocking in Texas videos.
I’ll be rving this summer for 4 1/2 months how do you feel about thousand trails? Is it worth it for 4 1/2 months?
Thank you, we'll check out yours as well!
Great channel RV Lyfer.
What did you do with your pups at the national parks?
Gordon, we typically either just tour the park in the truck with the dogs, or one of us stays back at the rig to dog-sit while the other goes for a hike, etc. That's one reason that we don't spend a lot of time in National Parks.
Wife and I take turns exploring those sites that are close . It sucks they don't allow dogs but it is what it is.
@@GrandAdventure Thank you!
What this means is the top 10 places NOT to go!
You see the glass half empty, we see it half full. 😉
👍👍👍👍
Thank you Gary!!
you must have to be rich to Camp you all year round is it cost a lot of money
It wasn't cheap because of the gas, Hank, but because we typically boondock it's much cheaper than other ways of living.
Love the top 10 video. Not surprised to see your choices here in Colorado. Quick question about your cssino stays... I know that most casinos on the reservations are smoking establishments but have you been to any that are non-smoking or have specific non-smoking areas as i am allergic?
Rod, most casinos we've stayed at have a non-smoking gaming room available. Of course, that's only an issue if you go inside. ;)
Nothing East of Colorado and only 12 states so not a lot to compare
There's only so much ground one couple can cover in one season!
