Chennai Floods are a wakeup call for India. We need to course correct. According to a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2021, rising sea levels threaten to submerge 12 coastal cities in the country by the end of the century. A dozen Indian cities, including Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi and Visakhapatnam, could be nearly three feet underwater by the end of the century, IPCC report warned. And the risks aren't just theoretical. More than seven million coastal farming and fishing families are already feeling the effects. Coastal erosion, exacerbated by rising seas, is estimated to lead to the loss of about 1,500 square kilometres of land by 2050. This erosion eats away at valuable agricultural areas and threatens the very existence of coastal communities. The vulnerability of Indian coastal zones is further highlighted by the fact that low-lying coastal areas and river deltas are highly susceptible to increased flooding. Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, with their dense populations and infrastructural significance, face a heightened risk of more frequent and severe floods. This could displace millions, impacting livelihoods and infrastructure.

Good information on whole of India.. Man made disaster indeed. Sad, even in this kind of Natural Calamity politicians, instead of coming together and planning for the well being of the country and people, they are politicing and making the situation difficult.

They should stress on the amount of lakes which has literally gone missing and their area decreased due to encroachment due to corruption n by government body itself

Our very India is in danger because of environmental issues brought by man made developmental projects! It is pertinent to make environmental policy b4 bringing devt protects. Our very own sons n daughters will suffer the consequences if the concerned people in charge do not act in time.

This is the failure of the central government to act despite understanding this is a serious issue year over year. The central government interferes into the affairs of the Tamil Nadu government NEETS etc , but when there is a disaster in the state there is quiet silence from the north. This is a perennial issues and in the interest of India as a nation, they should have acted upon over the years. The warnings were clear. But it never did.
The central govt Interferes into everything but seeing a disaster they are mute. In state rights and governance they interfere but in a disaster of national scale they remain silent and take a hands off approach.
When a serious problem occurs the correct perspective the blame goes to the top. In this case the union government. And here is where they should intervene. Or else the union serves no purpose to Tamil Nadu . And the nation and its image suffers
And it's certain in this case the central government will not raise a finger. We have seen this too many times .
