- Rolando Villazon and Hayley Westenra singing "A Celebration of the Movies" at the 2011 Royal Variety Performance, in the presence of HRH Princess Anne (The Princess Royal). Their three songs were: Smile - By Rolando, Gabriel's Oboe (Whispers In A Dream) - by Hayley; and Tonight (West Side Story) by Rolando and Hayley in duet. Hayley first appears 2minutes 25 seconds into the video.
The original performance was at The Lowry Theatre in Salford Greater Manchester on 5 December 2011, and it was first broadcast by ITV1 on 14 December 2011.

No, he is not only a great artist and one of the world's best tenors, he has charisma and is a wonderful human being!

i love, love, love his tember:))))))))!!! i loooove the color of his voice and his whole stage presence it's so natural and expressive but not pompous like so many opera singers, as if he genuinely enjoys and plays with every action... soooo wonderful to have watched him live at the Met, in Lucia - where heard him for the first time, not knowing who he was, his voice sounded like it was going to break down crying , yet soooo controlled.. bravo ,Rolando ,it's so much FUN listening to you:)!!!

Watch L'elisir d'amore with Rolando and Anna Netrebko, the Wiener Staatsoper one. He sings wonderfully, and makes you laugh so much! It's by far my favourite version of L'elisir.
Wow! What excellent performances! How good is Rolando Villazon!? I've heard of him, but this is the first time I've heard him sing! Can any Rolando fans tell me what a good first cd of Rolando's would be to get? :)
I think it's better that you buy Elixir of love on DVD....the complete Opera. It's a collection.

Such a wonderful version of "Smile "by Rolando Vilazon & Hayley Westenra. Yes indeed Charlie Chaplin was a wonderful song writer too! I am a fan of Charlie Chaplin too and wrote a song called Charlie Chaplin if you might like to pull it up. I been listening to Rolando for years. He has such a well trained voice that really is magnificent! I must admit Hayley is a new artist for me and I enjoy her singing and stage presence very much! 😀❤

I just saw this on TV today since it aired in New Zealand on Christmas Day. So proud of what Hayley's achieved this year. Performing the national anthem for U.K. and then for New Zealand at the Rugby World Cup finals(where we also won!). Now this! if only the HRM Queen Elizabeth was there to see this...

I know the feeling. I'm 15, in the UK, and I'm not a superfan, but he's amazing either way, and none of my friends even like this style of music. It's better than what's in the UK charts at the moment, but they don't realise it. (btw, I don't mean to offend you by that)

The words to this song were ony written in English. You may be thinking of Nella Fantasia which uses the same soundtrack of Gabriels's Oboe from The Mission. Ennio Morricone had no involvement with the Nella Fantasia lyrics but colaborated with Hayley on Whispers in a Dream. Hayley wrote the lyrics.
Hokey staging and blocking. The magic still comes through. It's an ecstatic experience just as it is supposed to be.

Villazón es uno de los mejores actualmente y flaco favor le hicieron a Hayley al ponerla junto a él porque evidencia la pobreza de estudio que tiene.
Oh and awesome to see her finally meet Rolando and sing with him. I like him a lot. He was really funny on Popstar to Operastar :-)

It seems Hayley's singing technique has somehow .... changed. Love Villazon's powerful singing and dramatic delivery in this though :)

The solo performances were very good, but the duet was amazing. I thought their voices went very well together! It's just such a shame that Rolando drowns her out for a bit of it - opera singer with classical/cross-over singer, it would happen.

I love Hayley and I love Rolando, but i dont think the duet worked very well, their voices are just so differant, he sounds so opera, and she's a classical/musical singer, it seemed wrong
now if it was Alfie Boe and Hayley, i'd have fainted
Rolando Villazon and Hayley Westenra together is not a good mix. There separate solos are wonderful. Truth is you have to relate to someone on a spiritual level to perform with them.
Well, this was quite a shock and disappointment Hayley Westenra can't sing, needs some lessons her voice is weak and thin lacking musicality, his is dynamic full of power and rich tones. What a terrible combination, his voice makes her's sound pathetic, I can't believe someone thought of putting these two together.
+Birdy Airpower you have no knowledge of Haley George Martin and many others have said she is one of the purest voices out there she is not an Opera voice and does not claim to be you are probably an Opera snob who hates anything in the classical crossover genre
I have many CDs of Haley and have seen her in concert. I meant they were unevenly matched as his voice drowns out hers. He is an operatic tenor and as such must have great power.

Birdee power I haven't heard you sing, have you a musical vid that we can look and listen to?? Maybe then we can see how good you are. This young lady has a career, do you. Critics are normally people that have never achieved a god damn thing, so until you post a vid of yourself singing, please be quiet, I think you may be doing yourself a favour.
