As someone with social anxiety I’ve struggled with effectively communicating my entire life. Keisha Brewers interview is giving me a new perspective on how to get my point across without creating conflict or unnecessary noise. Great interview as well you guys asked all the important questions and even challenged her a bit which she nailed! All in all this video deserves a million views and all the like.

That "genius is almost wasted if you can't communicate your beliefs" is an Einstein paraphrase. Telling of his age that he thought he could pass that off as a talking point between him and his brother.

I watched this twice, and it was a great presentation for the most part, but I'm still confused about what she's trying to say about empathy. In the first half she says it's the job of the communicator to make sure the message is understood, and to have empathy for the listener's needs and how they might perceive the message. That makes sense, but in the second half she seems to focus on how it's the responsibility of the communication recipient to have more empathy and do a better job of trying to understand the message and respond favorably to it. I guess if everyone had more empathy for everyone else then communication wouldn't be such a challenge.

Fair point about the empathy discussion. I do think empathy is a two way street in conversation. Mostly, however, I view it as meeting the recipient where they are at. In that respect, truly getting into the mind of your audience is truly important. Thanks for tuning in! More conversations like these are on the way.

I think you didn’t get her points properly. All she’s saying is that the Communicator should try to understand her Audience so the both parties reach their goals.
That 2nd part you stated isn’t what she is saying at all. Please watch again.
      Thank you.

@@queenideas Like I said, I watched it twice. Good discussion except for the discrepancy I noted. Since you might have missed it, it starts at around 29:00 and continues through, "Even though I didn't agree with cities being torn down, I understood it, man."

@@TheSnekkerShow I'm not seeing a discrepancy here. Empathy is required on both sides. It's the responsibility of everyone. To look at it as if it's the total responsibility of one over the other is not the message. It's the responsibility of both. You said that she "seems to focus". There's the keyword right there, SEEMS. Perhaps there's something within you that SEEMS to see it this way when its not explicitly stated in the way you proposed. As I'm communicating this to you, you probably won't see it this way, and that's ok. Cheers!
