I dont know how i didnt get the invite to see this video? Firstly; im still not sold on your little diagnal Strokes, we really couldnt see what you had actually done. I ve seen some of your contemporaries actually do a basic illustration on paper to show how he would apply his technique, this was particularly good when he was showing how to paint faces. I got to hand it to you though; the freehand sketch on the sabretache and the eyes, really showed your Class. You are a very Good Artist. WEve got an Old Pal who is also a Scot in here and his work is absolutely Beautiful. He had collected a fine British Army; i said Mate it aint a British Army without Highlanders! So he finally painted a Battalion of Gordon, and they are fantastic. I love all his work; he sets such a high standard and makes all of us want to take the time to refine our Art. This Hussar is very Good but it didnt knock me out the Park and i wanted it to see something well out of my reach. Which isnt saying that youre not bloody Good; I want our Historical miniatures to be at the same level as some of the Fantasy Artist on their 28mm subjects. There are some very gifted Boys in Girls out there and their Art is incredible. Ps : Just watched your Quick Shade French. I bought the dip i used it once and i dont like it. After your fine paint job; i dont think you did yourself any favors either. I think the Dip is a gimmick; i think it looks awful and its lazy; you should be picking out the fold, shading and highlighting as you did with your Hussar. Quick is devoid of quality! And your work is quality; so no more dips. Not a lover of the Citadel gimmick range either. You cant beat Old School Painting
Doing things on paper is maybe something to consider in future. Thanks for the idea. I think that if I want to take things to the next level I will need to invest in a proper camera set up. Painting with a mobile phone to record is not ideal. RUclips may not be the best medium for showing off up close details. An old school blog might be better with stills. I'd love to take things to the level of some of the fantasy and sci fi painters but at the moment it's a fine balance between finding time to paint my own figs and everyone else's. Something to aspire to. A lot of my videos are to try and show off the various techniques and methods of painting models that would be helpful for newcomers. Contrast paints and dip style washes can be useful for novices. Getting minis to the table quickly lets people experience the worlds of historical gaming sooner rather than later. In an ideal world I would use my Foundry Triads on all my personal minis and share the results on the channel, but time saving and helpfulness for others are the big themes in what I am trying to share.
Unfortunately I have yet to try any Scale75 paints. Some of the sets are on my radar. I believe Iain Aitken of Darkblade's Workshop has videos on using them for Batman and Harry Potter miniatures. Very good tutorials on that channel.
Lovely work, very nice chat all the way through, all the best Garry
Thanks Garry!
I really enjoy your videos, you certainly have the knack of patiently going through the steps. Stopped me from repeating my mistakes. Thanks a lot
You're welcome! Glad they are of use!
