- Mind Mapping is an incredibly powerful skill for studying, note taking, and learning because it forces us to generate connections and relate ideas together. However, many students struggle to use it because of how difficult it is to do it effectively. We were in the same boat. And after lots of trial and error, studying and learning through many subjects like medicine, STEM, productivity, and even business, we've come up with a checklist of items to make mind mapping a super effective and easy-to-use tool. Making mind maps has easily become our favorite learning strategy to study for exams or for boards. Here's our ultimate mind map tutorial to take better notes.

Hey, which program for video editing do you use?
Outstanding explanation of Mind Maps and very useful info
I wish you could do a 7 day study tutorial, from learning a new content,to studying it,to revising it and to test day
Yesssss
Fr
They have a skill share course I think
our latest free skillshare course is literally called 7 days to better grades haha. (link in description somewhere). we are constantly updating our study courses as we continue to learn better study techniques and productivity so will keep you posted
@@CajunKoiAcademy lmao omg tysm I literally have 1 week to revise for a test when I haven't even learned all the content 🤣 perfect timing
My trick to mind mapping is to simplify as much as possible. Replace words with images, and turn related key terms into mnemonics. Essentially make it as visual as possible and remove as many words as possible. Also, it doesn't have to be done in one session. Each time I come back to a mind map, I simply it further until I cannot. The key here is simplicity and clarity. Ultimately, our minds think visually first, so the ideal mind map should primarily consist of images.
what if u forget what those images mean and can't decipher them at a later date?
@@ChintuRai-fk8rr lol, that sounds funny. Horrible to happen in reality tho xD
@@ChintuRai-fk8rr Then it would be a bad mind map. The key word is "possible", meaning you don't have to get rid of all the words/ make them into visuals. You could use the camel example in the video where it was a picture combined with some labels. That way you can visual terms and still understand the images when looking back at it.
@@ChintuRai-fk8rryou can use autocad (an engineering program) to draw mind maps. you can include details with very very small font size (a whole page can be written as big as a single word). then whenever you want to see details you can just zoon in and see the details clearly.
the program allows you to add shapes figures and 3d shapes if you want and it has some other features.
Impressive - I'm new to iPad, new to Pencil 2, new to Apple Notes, new to GoodNotes, Freeform, etc. I was thinking all of this wasn't worth the effort. I'm 84 years old. Your video inspired me. Your method is fantastic. Thanks
Congratulations man
TREE Mind Map method:
1. List all terms
2. Organize into key and sub terms
3. Write main terms onto blank page
4. Consider the thought process relating these main terms (T)
5. How do the sub terms relate to these main terms(R)
6.Use Expression(E)
7.Be Efficient(E)
Watch the video for detailed explanation of each step🔥
Great summary 😬😬
Yup. Thanks.
Thx
Thank you so much. That's much easier to understand.

Been teaching MM for 30 years, it's about time someone started getting it right. Fantastic job! Well done. Thank you!!!!
whats MM stand for?
@@kirbymegorden8820 mind map
do you teach it in this way?
Jen’s mom Beth here; Thank you, this helps. I’m retired yet always reading. I have adhd, narcolepsy, synesthesia + so your mind map at 8:55 is my brain before, during, and after - all while taking neat notes and writing in the margins. I also put “items in rooms”, make up “stories for lists”, and have a photographic memory. I get sensory overloaded and easily distracted. I like to doodle yet it never crossed my mind to do a Mind Map this way. Continued success. You have a new subscriber.
Man this came at the PERFECT moment! I just started working at a company as a data analyst and I need to study the company at both a business and data structure level!! I wish I discovered your channel earlier in college. Thank you so much 💪🏽💪🏽
I found this SUPER helpful since I am supposed to be a visual learner but I have never been able to mind map well (always just look like a big page of notes/words). I am greatly enjoying your channel and have learned SOOO much from you guys! I recommend you to everyone! I wish you guys would make a video about strategies for studying problem-based subjects (math, physics and chemistry) in addition to all your content-based (biology, geology, language, history, social sciences) strategies. The problem-based subjects is where I am currently struggling. Thanks for all that you do!!!
You guys are one of the only productivity channels where every single video is helpful. Just amazing, funny, and super helpful! Thanks a lot guys! Cheers!

This video has been the BEST mind map guide I've ever watched on RUclips. Other videos are vague and their examples aren't complicated. A big list like this that needs work but goes into detail about how to sort out a topic to help it stick, is perfect.
Thank you so much for creating and sharing this video. 🙏😊
This is really helpful. I have always been into drawing and I am also a resident doctor looking for ways to make learning more "my own". I'm gonna give mind mapping a try. I feel like so much of medical info we have to learn I end up forgetting and I think the connections I make to the content plays a big part in that. Thanks for making great content, I look forward to the next video!
Amazing! Yea it’s been an awesome conceptual and teaching tool for medicine
I have struggled integrating things in medicine and I have been in search of ways to be more effective with my approach. Coincidentally, pathology has been overwhelming since it’s sooo much. I remember you talking about the tree analogy and I love how you integrated it here. Thank you.
This was so much helpful. I often find myself spaced out whenever facing pages and pages of traditionally written notes. Fortunately, I have been innovating my study methods thanks to this channel and I can feel the stress and pressure lessen. Thankss again
All these doctors and nurses turning into content creators and influencers...probably making more than in healthcare.
I've been mind mapping for years. I thought I knew how to do it. This video just blew my mind. I'm pumped to go even deeper on mind mapping and make it more expressive and less weighed down by words. Also thinking about how terms relate to each other. Well done!!
I'm so happy i've found this channel. Your videos have helped me so much in such a short amount of time. I changed my eating habits to study better, and I can't wait to try mind mapping. I do some form of this but take the classic notes method and add drawings. But i need to cut down time so much since I am in graduate school and taking 7 week classes.
Enjoyed every bit of this video. Mind-mapping is a creative process in the first place, and only then an instrument. It resonated with me that it’s not just growing up a tree trunk, but rather constantly restructuring, rethinking and even redrawing from the ground up. Keep up the good work!
I truly enjoy joining in all these comprehsensive curated courses out there which do so much to help us defining relation ship fundraising, building self confidence, improving our health and wellness, forgiveness and meditation, avoiding vulnerability, Empowering the World through Education, and of course and most importantly - taking notes in order to get more done in less time .preferably by COB or sooner.
In the beginning I was struggling to understand chemistry but after doing some research (watching RUclips videos, including this channel) I've been doing mind mapping and holy crud it makes a difference. I finally understand the concepts more compared to when I first started doing the notes. I still need a bit of practice with how much time I spend and not writing definitions but I really do feel I can go on trhough the rest of the semester of my chemistry, especially since I need a full term classes for my scholarship. It was also hard for me since I was online and not in person. I would really like tothank ya'll for your content, which has helped me a lot. The only thing is how to teach myself the problems 🤔.
I am strugle to how do you do that🥺
For anyone interested, check out memory markers and the loci method. It's incredibly similar to using drawings as a main source of information sorting, but instead of actually drawing it, you visualize it. Over time, visualizing it ends up being faster than drawing a moon faced camel, and can even be more expressive if you're not a picasso!
Regardless, the use of visuals is key! Our brain stores info visual info better than linguistics.
Great video!
How comes drawings Helps in accounting 😢😰
Great advice
Understanding is easy to do through this process but you can't write the same in exams ... You have to write, mention those difficult words that u have removed to make it simple ... SO , to score good you need to write those BIG, DIFFICULT words to gain marks!
@@janani5480Did you get your answer? Accounting is so boring. How does someone describe a debit or credit...boring?
This is absolutely brilliant!! It’s so creative and powerful way to learn. Definitely the best short introduction I’ve ever read on the power of mind mapping. Thank you. 👌🏽🙏🏾
Simply amazing!! I applied this to my note-taking and I started to get my course material a lot better, faster, and for a longer period without needing revision.
I always ignored Mind maps because they seemed like a waste of time but they're in fact, really saving it.
I second this!
Super cool. Addresses many of the problems I've had with mind-mapping, definite boost to my skills from this. Much gratitude and appreciation of the work you've put into this.
This is super helpful and may have changed my way of studying, can’t wait to try it. Very informative and easy to understand, thank you!
perfect mind map, simple to do but with alot information. On your notes you don't need to rewrite what is in the books but using main topics and keys to link them, just like you did with the kidney picture and their diseases through the path, but ofc u must hard study the subject. I don't know if there's a "universal" map for everyone but i personally like yours, with drawing, this way make super easy to understand and visualize
One of the best mind mapping videos I've seen. I feel like this is a powerful technique, and I want to add it to my toolbox.
Everyone talks about minmapping but you’ve actually made it doable gave a flow to work with that will lie as to a productive study tool instead of the messy paragraphs that some mindmap are will done guys this is one of my favorite vidoes from you
people use ta say i am dumb when i was kid, weak at study .. i found this technique when i was high school and a score on most of the subject .. this is magic .. thank you for detailing more.
Great stuff, thanks. I have severe dyslexia. Growing up in the American school system, meant I was on my own. I had to learn how "I" learned. It's amazing, people don't have a clue on how they learn. There is no right or wrong way, just your way.
I just recently did some training on graphic recording. This video came at a perfect time because I can use those new skills to draw out my own graphic recording of things I'm studying. So cool.
This was great! I was lucky enough to go to a mind mapping class all throughout middle school, and have been practicing it fir years, and I still found this informative!
This is such a good video! You perfectly explained how good mind mapping works. Also, not having more than about 4 pieces of information linked to another piece of information has a scientific basis: you can only hold about 4 pieces of information in your working memory at any moment. Great content!
this method looks pretty fun! i’ve always overlooked mind maps because they’d usually end up confusing and hard to read (just like the examples lol). thanks for the tips!
This was awesome. I tried using mind maps to study last semester and it was really effective but not time efficient at all to create or review, so as I got into heavier material I stopped. I think I was held back by thinking it had to look like a traditional mind map with one word in the middle connected to other words connected to more words.
This method seems much easier/freeing to create and review I’m excited to practice it this summer to where I can really take advantage of it next semester
I've also tried mind maps but I did in a non digital form, I think that using mind maps digitally could be a lot more efficient
Legend! I developed a very similar system intuitively over the years and this video has helped streamline and consolidate it 👍😉
Wow, thank you. Definitely going to give this a try. I am a visual learner and when it's all in words, it's hard for me to remember.
This was the most helpful breakdown of mind mapping I've ever seen, thank you!!!!
Thank you, these are great. Didn't do good in school but forced my way through. These video actually help grasp the material. Great job!
Thank you! I am using Mind Map for Business Analysis and you were absolutely thorough. Thank you for choosing examples that were absolutely foreign to me! I learned a few things and I can remember it for a while!
Genius. Thanks for the overall picture. It’s helping me flesh out my mind mapping skills.
This was super helpful! I love the part where you get to relate it to your favourite anime character and be as expressive as you want 😊.
And you're definitely right, you shouldn't make mind maps in a way that you're trying to decipher your own mind map and end up not fully understanding it and needing to go back to the material.
Thank you for sharing these tips ! It is such a life-changing ! I really appreciate your videos.
I found this super helpful. And I want more videos from you about learning techniques. Just to answer your questions.
Loved the questions for the thought process 🌳 thanks!!
Great video! I can start studying efficiently. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
you just earned a subscriber!!
Thank YOU SSSOSOS much! Unlike some other channels, you explain the process step by step which I am thankful for. As a noob 18yo med kid I have been mindmapping (moreso like the text heavy examples that you showed than the visual heavy one that you drew) and I was about to give up on mindmapping until I saw this video. So thank you tremendously
Don’t give up you got this
@@CajunKoiAcademy Thank you Mike and Matty, that means a lot
I just simply adore their channel like they are trying to help me so much in areas I suck at 🤧
I used this method in law school to study laws, and it worked very well for me. Thank you so much... I'm subscribed and like all your videos.🙏
I found this helpful wit my preparation for developing a presentation on student crisis intervention based on calm, quiet, safe and supportive responses to violent aggression.
SO HELPFUL, I'm actually excited and inspired to study
I can’t appreciate more…your methods are really helpful… thanks a lot 💜
I used mindmaps for revision at A level. I loved having them placed in places where I would stop, like near the kettle etc.
I've not found a way of using them for my degree. You have given me some ideas on how I could use them again!
Thanks!!
I’m an Engineer and I was able to understand so easily about kidney diseases in a nutshell. Great Work 👏
To be honest, I absolutely love ‚your‘ process!! I love to draw and be creative and I love studying and I love learning and reading! This is like the ultimate combination of serotonin for me. I am so thankful for your guide! I am certain it is going to be super handy when studying for my entrance exam into Med Uni!
It's SUPER USEFULL!!! Thank you so much, you're the best, guys!!!
First Cornell note taking to get the key information while hearing.
Then, that evening (spaced repetition) pull out the key concepts (and preferably share them with someone,)
A week later (spaced repetition) imagine and draw out a simple mind, as you describe.
A month later recreate the map and important facts and terms (recall and spaced repetition) and check.
Thanks, I think that helped me understand how to put mind maps in an efficient learning structure.
This video is SUPER helpful! I love it.
finally someone that explains the relational mind-mapping technique! (some youtubers mentions it but no one actually teaches you how to do it)
i believe you are refering to justin sung here , right ?
@@soumilgupta4655 yes and archer newton, their videos are good but theyre a little too vague, idk if it's on purpose to make the viewer buy their course in order to know the details
Exactly, I did not fully understand what's meant by relationships so I found this video very helpful.
But still the vision is not very clear , could anyone help me to find where they learnt from or it's also paid 🤔
@@stools4437 exactly
I am actually in their course, and while yes it may partially be because they want you to buy the course, I would say it’s also because proper mind mapping technique is WAY more nuanced than what is taught here, though it is a good start.
just found your videos. absolutely love them! subscribed
It would really be helpful if you could give examples on how to connect and remember math formulas to different concepts. Love your content!
Excellent video! I'm always happy to find instructive and effective explanations like this (and the editing is awesome)! One thing I do have a problem with is applying this to, say, PhD research within the humanities. Currently, I'm trying to broaden my understanding of aestheticism within literary theory. I really struggle to turn that information into mind maps. I'm not sure if this is because I'm trying to do too much at once (using key terms and outlining seems effective!) or what, but any sort of guidance would be so helpful!
Thank you so much for this. Your camel made me laugh. I just started a course of study after not being in school for 3 decades. There is more to learning than just learning. I am having to learn how to use technology at the same time in order to get my course work. Writing notes helps me to retain more than just reading text. Your Mind Mapping trick is going to be very helpful for me going forward. I look forward to checking out more of your helpful videos.
Very helpful, thank you👍what i love about this method of teaching, is that you showed exactly how it needs to be done and didnt just give a high level explanation⭐...just need to apply this now. Hope I do this tutorial justice🤞
Incredibly helpful. Thank you very much! Subbed.
This was fantastic. Thank you so much I’m going to use this suggestions in Nursing school.
I've watched 3 other videos on mindmapping that were twice as long as yours and much more confusing and unclear. You were able to do a better job of summing up effective mindmapping in half the time. Thanks.
Glad to hear that! Have you started using this technique? If so, how's it going for you?
I've reviewed stacks of mind-mapping youtube content and this was by far the best. Going through an example of creating one was fantastic. Thanks!
Wow, thanks!
Did you give it a shot yourself as well?
Super helpful and easy to understand. Thanks a lot!
this is super helpful! thank you so much!!
This was really useful.
I teach mathematics and unconsciously I sort of teach my lessons this way. However, when I try to learn something from a different subject such as biology, history, etc; my first inclination is to write it down in a linear way because that's the way I learned it. I will definitely try to implement mind mapping for other subjects.
Fantastic! I've learned a ton of stuff with your videos, TYSM!!!
To be honest, this is the best video on mind map i ever saw.
You absolutely saved me with this! Thank you!
Excellent channel. Thanks for being one of the most useful channels. The amplification effect of your channel could be staggering.
Brazil here. What an amazing video!! Im speechless! You rock,. Cajun
I stumbled on this video and very glad I did. Nice technique.
Really needed this video You explained it so well making it really easy to understand Thank u so much
Thanks, This is a good technique, I did a combination of both text and visual learning, as sometimes you need to dig deeper into a subject and also I combine it with flashcards
This was amazing!!! Thanks, Cajun!!!
I found this VERY helpful. Now I have an efficient way of studying. Thanks alot!
Beautiful!
Just beautiful, thanks a lot ♥
Thank you so much! Extremely helpful 👍🏻
Thank you so much for the concepts.
Super helpful! Just in time for my prefi in the coming week❤
Omg I'm learning about this very concept, so this was super useful!!!
Brilliant! Thank you! You add intelligence and understanding to the mind map. And therefore you remember because you understood the whole process. It is much much efficient to learn "synthesically" than to learn "analytically". My father tried to teach me this first way... and I must say I remembered the lessons learnt that way and rapidily forgot all the others! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
This is Gold my friend! Thanks!
This is super helpful, thanks so much! I'm planning to study during the holidays to make studying a habit. I tend to remember the topics better with mind maps as opposed to 7 pages of notes lol
where are you from and when is your school break and holidays? that'd be helpful to know
@@CajunKoiAcademy I'm from South Africa, and my school break is from the 10th of June hopefully. I do IT so I do more practical work than theory work so I know the next semester will be filled with loads of practical assignments
Best mind map technique I've ever crossed ♡
Wow I really love this ideas. I have trouble sticking to the big picture, usually I get caught up with all the little details. I will give it a try over the weekend and see if my notetaking and revision will improve. Thanks for the great tutorial!
Takes lots of practice good luck!
I really wanted to do mind map but I didn't have a clear idea about it before but it all solved because of your video and I am gonna try it thankyou.
Finally short and good Mind Map Tutorial! Thank you !
Glad it helped!
This was very very helpful in my understanding of mind maps and how to really put them to use.
Great video, though I have a couple of questions:
1) What is the software you use to create your mind maps? What is the software used on the video?
2) How long do you take to create a mind map and how long was your learning curve? I found your method interesting however, I am afraid of the time I will take to feel comfortable with it.
He used "concepts" in this video which you can install through Microsoft store, though there are other alternatives as well like
- mural
- squid
- milton
- lorein
- Microsoft whiteboard
In my experience, It took me a week or so to get comfy with it, still mentally draining as hell tho but it's worth it
These were som extremely helpful tips. I will be sure to use this in my study sessions :)
Always wondered what a mind map was. Thanks for the video.
WOW! Now this is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Honestly, i don't know a thing about bio or medicine but after seeing your mind map I can say that I know something about kidneys and damages.
WoW! That is an excellent topic for me... I get many things in this video. Thank you! good luck! with future videos🙂
I have a nephropathology exam in three days! Can't thank you enough
