Hi. First - hello fellow Navy veteran! I was a nuc submariner (1970-1976). Thanks for your service Sailor! Next, I very much enjoyed your video. I just obtained both types: squeeze and mini, and I needed an initial "primer" on how to use both. You did a good job in doing that. I plan to use the squeeze for long hikes (multi-night), and the mini for day hikes. Thanks, and God Bless. Ken
Great review!!! Answered ALOT of my questions about the mini...I've just ordered the larger system but was interested in the 'backwash' techniques and you answered it perfectly! Ignore the comments about the wind, you can still hear your comments quite clearly...listeners must understand this type of youtube videos are for info data only and not professional, screen sanctioned videos, otherwise they would have to pay for them and I doubt many (including me!) would pay for them if that was the case! Thanks for your video and informative video! May God Bless!
Good Demo! Agree with you about the Sawyers. Have both the Squeeze for "base camp" and the Mini for each family member & each vehicle get-home kit. Tip: No need to remove the drinking cap when filtering water into another container. Just open it. Easier, IMO, to fill soda bottles via the drinking cap. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! I've been looking for a video to remind me how to back flush my filter and found yours! That was very helpful! Plus, you're just adorable and so are your dogs! Have a beautiful day!
As with all of your other videos, Well done my friend. I might also add that a trip to Lowes or Home Depot will give you an endless supply of adaptors for any type of bottle, bag, bucket, hookup or hose that you can think of. I like the Smart water bottle. The threads fit nice on the Sawyer filters. I also prefer the cap on that bottle as well.
I personally own 3 sawyer mini water filters, 1 in my Jeep, one in my camping backpack, one in my edc bag I take to work with me, and I have given a couple away as gifts to people. I think they are awesome. I use mine in a in line system using the platypus big zip 2L.. as a dirty bag and use hose and quick connects. to let gravity filter it into a clean bag or smart water bottle. It is a vey versatile water filter for sure. also the smart water bottle with the flip up sippy lid can be used to back flush so you can leave the plunger syringe at home.
Hey, thanx for the awesome informative video and for comparing the diffrent ones. I have a sawyer mini in my cart that i have been battling over whether its worth the price just over R500 in south africa and am convinced it will be worth its weight in gold. Keep up the cool content!
back home in mountains.. I would go walking back about several miles in summer ... unfortunately , we ran out of 1 gallon of water .. we thus had to drink from a little 1 foot wide trickle that came out from ground next to cow watering tank.. luckily we didn't get sick.... .. anyways I bought me one of these and keep it in my back pack every where I go.... even in vehicle.... thanks for video..
WOW 😳 😲u just drank out of that dirty ass stream, and yes I learned alot from ur video tysvm for sharing this with me 👍🏻👍🏻 I've got a Sawyer mini water filter i just gotta get up the balls to try it out
It's not going to take the taste, odor, chemicals or metals out of the water... this doesn't normally apply if you're filtering Backcountry water. All those things that I mentioned just a second ago or generally in a urban situation
Thanks for the video. i really like it when you get outdoors like this. How often does one have to backwash the Sawyer? Thanks again, have a beautiful day!! :)
Your demo is great! Thank you. Have you ever captured dirty water then using the Sawyer mini filter connect a camping shower water pump to it. Do you think that the suction would be too strong.
Do you have to backwash after each use? I just bought the Mini and wondered about this. Directions say when the flow gets slow, backwash, but if I can I will probably backwash after each use. Thanks for a great demonstration.
Are the water filters still affective if the water might have chemicals or petroleum in it ? Like water run off of a farm with pesticides or something like that in it? I have two of those filters but never had to use one yet. Great Video 👍
Thanks for the cool and informative video Jiujitsu2000. After you drank that water your stomach was ok, no problems ? That is very cool. Also I saw on another guys video (Preparedmind101) a comment from someone who works in infection control in hospital that the filter needs to be disinfected so the bacteria inside cannot multiple after 3 hours or so. Any word on this ? Thanks for the good video.
in a lot of places modern americans can't drink from streams because animals shit in them. our stomachs aren't used to those viruses and germs anymore.
i wonder how these would do in iowa rivers. many are very very muddy and lots of runoff from feilds. a lot of manure and chemical fertilizers and pesticides/herbicides are in the water here.
this filter does not take out chemicals or metals that might exist in the water so it's better suited for Backcountry water such as rivers lakes streams things like that
I think my Calculation was in Error! 2 gallons average X 365 days = 730 gallons. So 50,000 gallons (2 gallons average per person) lasts 137 YEARS for 1 person! Sorry! My bad! So you could quite literally use 1 of these things to serve over 100 people for a year, assuming proper usage. I never was great in algebra...
jiujitsu2000 Alright, so it prevents short term illness but not long term ! You may find water test kits to analyze its pH, hardness, lead, nitrates, pesticides etc... You're gonna be amazed what you find in that water ! here a link: www.amazon.com/PurTest-Home-Water-Analysis-Testing/dp/B0008D5KYK Thank you for your vids :)
I'll leave you a link in another comment to the filter that I prefer. It does everything the Sawyer does and more. It will probably end up in spam otherwise I'd just add it to this comment.
Only $3 more than the Sawyer Squeeze and filters down to .05 microns plus it has the carbon filter element for chemicals. Well worth it in my opinion. I need to get a new one and do a video on it. The one I have has been used quite a bit.
100,000 Gallons / 2 gallons clean water per day (assumes 1 person no hardship) = 4.56 Months for 1 person for 1 Mini. Assumes that it works as advertised. So get a few. The Squeeze and a few others claim 1 Million gallons ( X10 of the Mini's) Calculating Drinking less than 2 Gallons per person (a Day) could stretch that to about 6 months per person per mini filter, assuming it works perfectly, and is properly backflushed every use.
Thank you for putting this together and explaining how to backwash. I didn't understand the concept and you make it simple clear.

+Kenn Harris great comment! Thank you, I don't let the negative get to me. God bless you!
The best review of some sawyer products so far!
Thank you for the kind words and support you give my channel! Life is amazing! Have a beautiful day... :-)

your exactly right about removing the cap... no need, thank you for stopping by and have a beautiful day!!
Thank you so much, very informative. I just got mine today and was a bit confused, but it all makes sense now so curious to try it now.
The dog cracked me up!
Human: I am gonna through all these steps... Ah... Clean water...

that's awesome! how do you back wash with the bottle, I'm not quite following you here. sounds interesting!
Thanks for the great video!! This really helped me out decide on which filter to get.
+Juan Gun thank you. Feel free to check out my newer Sawyer filter video. I did it about a month ago or so
Great demo you sold me.

thank you. these work well!!
I've never watched a video with such loud wind background noise, but still clear audio. It's really weird, lmao. Very informative though!
awesome presentation. thank you
+Dan Guajardo Thank you!
Excellent video
I like these best so far and not a bad price point and lot do a lot of gallons I am sold on this product thanks. this is better than Iodine tablets.:)
thank you, these won't work on chemicals or metals, but I love them for back country water sources!
+jiujitsu2000 oh ok I wonder what or if there is a filter that will cover everything all water.
+Lou Flores yes! I'll be releasing a video soon on it.
Awesome video, quick question. How often do you have to backwash your filter? Is there a set time or amount of use's?
How many minutes do you have to boil water , for it to be safe ?
Nice job!
WOW 😳 😲u just drank out of that dirty ass stream, and yes I learned alot from ur video tysvm for sharing this with me 👍🏻👍🏻 I've got a Sawyer mini water filter i just gotta get up the balls to try it out

thanks just checking i had the right direction for backwashing
+Waltrob1 cool, thx
Wow, they come along way in 5 years I mean how old is video is
Great Video!
thank you, I just finished filming a new one
Something to think about….the CNOC 2-3liter bag is great for dirty water
Thx for a great review
+Dizzyish Thank you!
cool filters, and what's even better, is I can get it a Wally World.
I like them alot! thank you
+jiujitsu2000 between all the Bic lighters, and water purification filters , and Para cord, your pretty much set for a SHTF situation
+Jason Williams ha ha, I'm set!
Thanks for the video. i really like it when you get outdoors like this. How often does one have to backwash the Sawyer? Thanks again, have a beautiful day!! :)
thank you, I only back wash when flow rates slow down which isn't very often.
@@jiujitsu2000 tysvm for answering my question about that
Your demo is great! Thank you.
Have you ever captured dirty water then using the Sawyer mini filter connect a camping shower water pump to it. Do you think that the suction would be too strong.
+Wayne Wood Thank you! I've never tried that
this was well done
thank you brotha!
Could you filter water with the sawyer and use that filtered water to backwash it?
+Elijah Smith yes. I do it all the time
Thanks a lot for the info
Do you have to backwash after each use? I just bought the Mini and wondered about this. Directions say when the flow gets slow, backwash, but if I can I will probably backwash after each use. Thanks for a great demonstration.
+csh 62 Thank you! No, you do not have to back flush after every use. I usually back flush when I get home from a trip or when the flow gets slow
Are the water filters still affective if the water might have chemicals or petroleum in it ? Like water run off of a farm with pesticides or something like that in it? I have two of those filters but never had to use one yet. Great Video 👍
These water filters are designed for back-country water sources and have no effect on taking older, taste, chemicals or metals out of the water
@ 1:39 how much for that beautiful dog ? looks like she has a natural sawyer built in her throat.
Thank you!
lose the 30 second intro.
Thanks for the cool and informative video Jiujitsu2000. After you drank that water your stomach was ok, no problems ? That is very cool. +Maj I've never had any issues at all. Thank you for stopping by!
There really should be a breather valve so you can screw the sawyer on another bottle...
Cute dogs
Thanks so much!
+Einzigkeit Thank you!
Now days you can’t drink straight from the stream because you don’t know what chemicals or stuff they dumped in it
Fred Eakles true, in my location its pretty remote and pretty clean
in a lot of places modern americans can't drink from streams because animals shit in them. our stomachs aren't used to those viruses and germs anymore.
Dogs are like wtf, just drink it.
i wonder how these would do in iowa rivers. many are very very muddy and lots of runoff from feilds. a lot of manure and chemical fertilizers and pesticides/herbicides are in the water here.
+Toe ofawesome they don't filter out chemical or metal.
i have the sawyer mini they do freeze so get a neoprene cover for it they are good for about 139yrs thats a lot of water
Sawyer has some good reviews
You have anything to block out that stupid wind?
+Bob The Doge I wish. That's one of the hardest things to deal with being a video creator. My newer videos are much better
+Bob The Doge I wish. That's one of the hardest things to deal with being a video creator. My newer videos are much better
+jiujitsu2000 cool two of the same comments lol
ha ha
well i'll tell you what, i'll take that clean filtered water any day over that nasty water for $20-$30. guarantee you that. thumbed up / thx!
Thank you!
Can you drink any kind of water through that? Like some nasty looking pond water, water from a toilet etc?
this filter does not take out chemicals or metals that might exist in the water so it's better suited for Backcountry water such as rivers lakes streams things like that
Sorry if I missed it, but how often do you, or sawyer recommend to backwash?
I back wash when the flow slows down. thank you for stopping by!
Every time you use it.
Yeah I would do it every chance I get. After every use, assuming I had a way of cleaning it.
Watching the dogs in background.......Dogs don't care if water is filtered or not. 😂
A.New.Viewer ha ha
JIUJITSU2000 But good review and demo, this video helped me understand the product better. 🙂
Wow
It's been suggested that long ago people's immune system was actually stronger due to not being exposed to antibiotics. Who knows.
+rick packo that makes sence

I never was great in algebra...
what if a person can go through more than 2 gallons of water a day
do you think you would work on dangerous chemicals and heavy metal
+Brett Duffy No.
Try a Grayl ultralite
Thanks brother ... Good Video. Joey
Joseph Brumbeloe Jr Thank you!
+jiujitsu2000 what about chemicals present in the water, any risks ?
great question. these filters don't do anything for chemicals
jiujitsu2000 Alright, so it prevents short term illness but not long term !

+Yas Sweet! Thank you for sharing!
I'll leave you a link in another comment to the filter that I prefer. It does everything the Sawyer does and more.
It will probably end up in spam otherwise I'd just add it to this comment.
+Country Prepper This is the Renovo Trio amzn.to/1N7pX5n
thank you brotha. I'm looking at one too, but it's expensive!
Only $3 more than the Sawyer Squeeze and filters down to .05 microns plus it has the carbon filter element for chemicals. Well worth it in my opinion. I need to get a new one and do a video on it. The one I have has been used quite a bit.
+Country Prepper I love them too! thank you brotha, I have a video coming soon on this! From my understanding they even filter urine!!
+Country Prepper I must not be thinking on the same one. I'm thinking of the ariix puritii...
I see you’re wearing a hat with a Budweiser on it-did you graduate from BUDS or are you just a supporter? If you did, what class.?
+irishdefense77 I'm a proud supporter. Have some friends that are. Thank you!
Does it filter salt water (sea water)?
+William Nascimento no. :-(
where can I get one
+James Barta Walmart, Amazon, REI, Cabelas, BassPro
Thanks and I'm subed
+James Barta thank you as well
JIUJITSU2000 thank you my friend for your nice video. I just order mine after this. Love from Greece. God bless you.
He has a Trident on his hat, was he a SO ? SEAL
+1Deejay7 No, I wasn't a SEAL. Thank you!
The filter doesn't filter viruses and like lead stuff ect. 🤔
Yes. We don't have waterborne viruses in north America... lead though... yes!
I wonder if it could also filter out the AIDS virus
+Brett Duffy Nope!

A life saver filter will remove particles as small as .001 microns. That means the life saver filter will remove viruses 🦠 too.
Sawyer filters are pos.
you don't know much about filters if the Sawyer is the ONLY filter.
god are you irratating.....
Great video!
+Jdub I have more Sawyer videos. Feel free to check them out. They're also newer. Thank you!
