I wonder if once increased the output power of the laser, a phased array lidar can actually create a hot spot at the focal point.

      Hi @jatigre1
Thank you for your valuable question on Phased Array LiDAR.
To our knowledge it’s challenging for a phased array LiDAR to create a laser hot spot at the focal point (mostly also with limited optical power) even simultaneously over a long distance range of +20 cm to > 100m which is typically required for an automotive LiDAR sensor.
Furthermore, phased array LIDAR (typically using thermal phase shifter) causes significantly higher power consumption and requires greater efforts for electronic driving control in comparison to a MEMS scanning LIDAR. MEMS scanning LIDAR is a solid state LiDAR technique. It shows high mechanical reliability of the MEMS scanning mirrors without wear and degradation even at high mechanical vibration.
In comparison to phased array LiDAR we can achieve better optical performance of the scanned collimated laser beam with lower technical effort and over a wide distance range of up to > 100m.
We have many years of experience in development, manufacture and system integration of customized MEMS scanning mirrors for MEMS scanning LiDAR systems. If you are interested in our MEMS scanning technologies, please don't hesitate to contact us.

What does the 12kHz mean at 1:48?

This is the scanning frequency of the MEMS mirror.

Dear @@balajichandrasekaran6312 , no, this is a separate development from ours. It is very interesting to hear from others who work in LiDAR technology, so thank you for leaving this comment and pointing us in this direction!

@@FraunhoferIPMS In the video, there are three scanning freq. 12kHz, 360Hz@horizontal direction, 0~35Hz@ vertical direction. I am confused about the relationship between them. Could you pls give more explannation?

@@anliangyu342 Sure. We offer different designs in our MEMS technology. The 12 kHz are an exemplary frequency, we should have probably ommited them, since it is a bit confusing as you say. For the specific application we present here, the 360 Hz for horizontal scanning and 35 Hz for vertical scanning are the correct ones.
