    This is a badass technique but what about the fact that the fire looks so painterly and artificial, I mean is there any way to make it look sharp and real?

      If you want the center of the fire sharpened up, you can use unsharpen mask on your base fire layer to give edge contrast or smudge with a harder brush when shaping.
