Engineering knits is a place for people who enjoy all kinds of vintage and antique crafts - from sewing to knitting, crochet to embroidery I like to try it all. I definitely have a preference for historical fibre crafts, and it is my dream to one day make an entire outfit from sheep to sweater. I hope you enjoy watching me and my favorite companion, Nutella, struggle through some fascinating projects!

Making a mini cleaning critter for your roomba… Would be SOOO cute!!!
Right?! If it was short it wouldn’t hinder the robot… like a crab? Or a stingray?
i always love using mop slippers while i’m mopping! they don’t help clean really but help keep the floor clean from dirty feet/shoes while mopping and make it so i’m not walking around in my socks either and getting them wet. loved the video vintage patterns are so fun!
I think a cleaning kit with some handmade reusable would be a fun and very practical housewarming gift or even a wedding gift.
I had to chuckle about cleaning product gifts. I think it definitely depends on the person receiving it, but could be excellent for a housewarming gift, where it wouldn’t be misunderstood. 🙂
When I moved into my current home my friend made me a pack of dish cloths. All different colours and patterns, and all still useable after 10 years! I love them, but I want those slippers!! ❤
I would be very tempted to put googly eyes on those slippers! 👀
I was about to say exactly the same thing. Great minds 😆
Cleaning supplies in a big bin is what I give as a graduation gift for kids going away for uni. Their moms usually appreciate it.
In 2020, I knitted up a bunch of cloths, some of which were washcloths and others which were supposed to be cleaning cloths and paired them with eco soaps for dish washing or personal hygiene. I was able to tailor some to people’s interests, thanks to a bunch of free designs out there, plus there’s collections for different parts of the year. Everyone loved them (they often came with other things, like fabric face masks) and people LOVED them. I think a lovely gift for people is a collection of 12 for each month of the year for new home owners.
People really seem to love gifts where people have made them and I’ve even knitted up hand towels - my sister adored hers. I bought some sale amurigami cotton and knitted up designs with the correct needle size. I’ve even knitted up vintage tie patterns.
It’s also an awesome way to use up cotton yarns as well as try out new patterns.
Make the roomba doll a mini one first! lol
What a fun episode and I think those slippers might actually be great for baseboards!
Lol the editing on the vacuum cover was so funny 😆
When cutting many bits of yarn for tassels(I recently made fur for our book week cat costumes) wrap it around an 8 inch book or two bits of cardboard the right width then snip either end along the edge. Works amazingly. Bonus points because it’s also a vintage idea.
I previously worked as a programmer / tech lead in the game industry for well over a decade. After developing health issues from burning out, I left the industry and am now living my best life working at a fabric + crafting shop and doing so much knitting and crochet and sewing! :D
The reveal was really fun and I enjoyed the music too.
The vacuum cover brought back some memories! I was terrified of the plush rabbit-maid that covered my parents’ old vacuum 😂
Brilliant idea to clean the molding! No learning over. What fun.
We got a whole basket of cleaning stuff when we moved into our home. Honestly of all the gifts it was the most useful, one less thing to buy!!
I was also heavily pregnant when we moved (do not recommend lmao), and it meant a lot they’d gifted us a lot of eco friendly products with gentle smells 😅
Love the moppets, so cute and funny. All the cleaning products are pretty cool.
My mom used to sew appliance covers. We never used them in our house, but she'd sell them at little craft boutiques we used to have around here in the 90s. I'd completely forgotten about that until now.
I wasn't sure about these until you did the baseboards and then I was all in.
Moppets for baseboard dust are a great idea!
Thank you, Laughed out loud at the moppet reveal 🙂
Wait wait wait, thay Simplicity craft pattern is EVERYTHING. You're telling me I could have a weird gigantic plush that serves a purpose? I am so thoroughly tempted
Such a fun video! I had no idea you were a programmer, but now it makes sense. Cheers!
Haha the Moppets are so fun 😂
I mean... the good
thing about practical handmade gifts like cleaning helpers is that best case, they'll put a smile on the new owners face, every time they use them. And worst case, it they find them silly or ugly...they can still use them and then put them away in the supply cupboard in between uses.
Unlike decorative objects, they won't feel like they need to display them for the sake of not being rude. And they won't get thrown away unused, either.
Personally, I *love* fun, whimsical gifts, though 😁
Love the slippers!😂
Those slippers would be dangerous in our house with all the hardwood floors...I can just see myself tumbling down the stairs. At least they'd be clean 🤣🤣
i think the chess set collectors and rock/mineral collectors among us would like the cleaning mitts as gifts! you have to pick up each chess piece to clean it anyway, so why not save time and turn your hand into a duster? and i love the alligator soap saver! i grew up with all the neighborhood ladies having toilet paper cozies on the backs of their toilets (and also toilet tank cozies...and whatever-else cozies they could think of to knit or crochet). my 90-yr-old aunt still has a poodle TP cozy and a little house kleenex cozy atop her guest bathroom toilet. :)
One of my first crochet projects at school was a crochet turtle soap saver. I love it, everyone got one for christmas that year
Former professional cleaner. Those mop slippers would have been perfect for when you have a nice mopped floor but left something on the other side of the room (AND FUN!)
Those mop slippes as-is would be great at picking up all the fur on my floors
lol, the reveal! i love the moppets!!
My mom would love those slippers and she would use them to help her clean 😂
Cleaning tools are appropriate gifts for bridal showers, students moving out for college, and housewarming. I would probably say it's a good gift for a group of friends who both clean and appreciate quirky handmade items - like I might make a basket with cleaning supplies and mop slippers as a "white elephant" for my knitting group, but I wouldn't give mop slippers directly to a friend for her birthday.
what I need is mop slippers for the dog hehe
More vintage please!!
best Blueland integration! you find the funniest patterns!! robot vac cover pattern cracked me up. excellent editing
Cute items.
Perfect for the chacha slide
Great video! I love your vintage patterns series - I still think about the Sploot Bear rug!
I never thought about scripting my knitting! Would you consider making a video about how you use Python to help you design and execute patterns?
Im really enjoying the little q+a section you're doing at the ends of your videos now 😄.
My personal opinion on the gifting cleaning tools supplies is not to do it for a birthday/xmas etc. unless you're explicitly asked for it. but its a nice 'just thought you'd like it' gift, not for any special occasion.
I cannot even imagine how long it would take to hand knit that hoover-maid, if you do it i assume you'd do at least some of it on a machine?
I thought the moppets were cute, but a novelty. Then I saw you dusting the baseboards with them, which seemed genius! I would use a latch hook to attach the yarn strands instead of doing that all by hand.
I feel like we are missing here the classic ✨toilet paper doll covers✨ 😅💖
I think maybe as a house warming gift the cleaning things would be ok to give.
I think a handmade cleaning kit would work as an engagement/wedding gift or a first house gift - or perhaps if a youngster is going off to college ( young people are often extremely environmentally conscious and want reusable things!) 🥰🥰
I love the idea of dusting mittens. I have to look into this.
I have crocheted and knitted a few wash clothes from cotton.
But my best little helper are my knitted and felted pot cleaner. The steel wool once are too scratchy for some of my pots and I don't like the plastic ones. So, I bought some felting wool, knitted a square and it felted while using it. I can throw in the washing machine und it doesn't produce a single piece of microplastic.
Thank you for the response! I would love to learn more about how you used code to aid your knitting design process. Your response has gotten me motivated to look for more ways to use coding to help my knitting! :)
Can you imagine Nutella’s reaction to a vacuum maid twirling around on your roomba? 😂
I use a crochet soap saver. I might need a turtle version!
Oh man, I can just imagine my cat if I made those slippers XD I'd never get them back!
6:00 are you kidding me?! As a woman in my thirties I would be delighted to receive cleaning products and tools as a gift either for Christmas or my birthday. I would even be delighted to receive them as an anniversary present! Cleaning products are just one of those things that gets pushed the very back of the mind, it went payday comes around it's time to do the shopping It's quite literally the last thing that is on my mind which means that it oftentimes gets neglected. Knowing that somebody thought of me and is also aware of that cleaning neglect speaks volumes.
I don’t enjoy cleaning either! I rather be creating or cooking! I think the mop slippers is so cool! I bought a pair of mop slippers (not knitted) from Daiso before and they became flat ar the bottom over time😂
They remind me of the Muppets. Super cute!!!
Well, obviously the robovac needs an R2D2 or something.
with gifting cleaning supplies, i make sure its something they can keep on display as a decoration first, and then waaay after that it needs to be functional. basicly, cool trinket first, cleaning supply dead last
If a made the moppets to fit my dog he could clean up his own pug glitter.😂, i live in hope. ❤
hahaha brilliant !
I want to see the maid to put on top of the rumba 🤣 maybe in small yarn so she is not too tall ?
I love the idea of cleaning floors with your handy moppets - and great idea to use them for skirting boards 😅
On another note (and not wishing to diagnose you at all) have you ever come across Dyspraxia or Developmental Coordination Disorder? I mention it because I have it, and from what you are saying about being 'clumsy' I think it's possible you might too. I realise you might not be interested in pursuing this, but I wanted to just mention it. Anyway, I really enjoy your videos!
Those mop slippers need eyes as they remind me of Muppets
Can microfiber yarn that would suit dusting, or foot skippering, be found? Which weight or diameter or specification???!
Make some for your dog to wear with you too, that would be fun
hi can you go back to old video like Victorian Hammock (you didn't even put needle size you use) and give more detail
🧼 🫧
Ehm… it seems obvious to make a cat for the roomba?
