After two weeks of speculation, yesterday, former US President Donald Trump was arrested for multiple charges of business fraud. With this monumental news breaking recently, we thought it'd be worth looking at why he has been charged, what happens now, and what this means for both the former US President and the US itself going forward.

I personally think the media is exaggerating trumps arrest. Seriously, watching it happen was so anticlimactic and boring
of course. Conservative media wants to compare trump to Jesus, and liberal media wants to open champagne glasses and celebrate it, and every media in the middle tries to stoke the flames.
It's the media... What do you expect?
It's a big deal because of who he is, not what happened. Trump is never going to put up a physical fight. His big actions are all going to involve walking around saying things.
SOOOOOO BORINGGGGGG
well that's the law, it is boring. The results are not
on one hand, powerful rich people rarely get punished.
on the other hand: financial crimes are a lot more provable, and might actually result in a sentence.
Yep.

The question is whether he'll be charged with misdemeanors or felonies
@@aclassicguardsman946 Felonies but doesn’t automatically mean a custodial sentence
It took down Capone don’t forget
The judicial system for billionaires is far far more lax than for normal people.
Not to mention the hypocrisy of Bragg lowering felonys to misdemeanors as.crime rises across NYC but this misdemeanor upgraded to a felony.
No matter how you put that, it is hypocritical and can be easily argued as politically motivated.

Only conviction matters.
@A B That is not how the law works, dude. You can only get the RICO statute to stick with federal felonies, not state misdemeanor crimes.
I think there will likely be a conviction but it will be overturned on appeal. The problem is finding an impartial jury. I think it improbable that they will find enough people who can be unbiased in a jury pool.
@@bluebelle8823 Which is why it NEEDS a change of venue. But since the judge is a notorious activist and nevertrumper, your point is very well taken.
I find it weird that you say "the charges explained" but you didn't tell the viewers what politicians who have been convicted of the same crime have gone through, I think it would be valuable to know what has happened to past politicians, btw they paid a fine.
Yeah no. This is a criminal proceeding for 34 felony charges. Felony charges usually involve jail time and other politicians didn't get off easily. Other politicians were fined in civil cases, not criminal
yes a criminal proceeding involving falsified financial transactions, Hillary Clinton was convicted and finned in federal court for committing the same crime, however in trumps case the state not the feds is stepping in because they want to end his presidential run, why didn't the state step in with hillary? because they didn't want to stop her run. this is the prosecutors using power to sway federal elections. you can argue trump should face the consequences but you have to also argue that others should face those same consequences.
Look forward to TLDR's report on the latest SNP story. (Are there ANY political parties free of financial sleaze?)
The ones that don't have any money.
The SNP scandal is using 600k on day to day expenditures instead of directly for a 2nd referendum. That's it.
@@20quid Oooh, I never thought of that!
Of course not.
True. Cynical, but true.
Oh man can you even imagine being on this jury? It would be so painful. It is likely to be a hard several months for them, when we get to that point of course.
If he had not been standing for presidency again, he might not have been charged. But now a dam will break and several more charges will be brought up against him. That will change things.
they'll be ready ready just in time to interfere with the election
Remember, Trump is of a generation and class where "an affair" was different from a one-off , or even a regular and even housed mistress. "It was just physical" was a thing even their wives would say.
So, even though he is notorious for lies, in this case "there was no affair" would be true in his mind.
However, false accounting is another natter - and they have the bank stubs, receipts, and even audio recordings.
The affair itself is almost irrelevant. The charges stem from his actions taken trying to hide the affair
@Zaydan Alfariz Still illegal in 49 states last I knew in the USA. Polyamory as a non governmentally recognised relationship is usually legal, but not acceptable as an excuse in devorce law/procedings, and recieves no benifits of a legally excepted marrage. Utah had some weird polyamory thing passed recently, but I don't remember what it entailed, and I don't think it recognised it. Laws about children and Marriage in the USA differ state by state and get complicated.
@Zaydan Alfariz Marriage in the USA includes tax incentives, custody implications, rights to property, rights to sign certain legal documents, requirements of notice to certain activities of your S.O., etc. Legal polyamory could mean legality of association and intercourse, but not include polyamorous marriage. Meaning without polyamorous marriage being legal any polyamorous marraige can only have 2 people get any marraige rights and if those 2 people split up one of those parties could use the rest of the polyamorous relationship parties as basically blackmail material in court to extract all of the other person's wealth. (party is a genaric legal term for a person, business, or other legal entity in USA law.) Basically you can date, but any breakup is worse, and your civil rights would be less in a polyamorous relationship than a gay or heterosexual monogamous relationship.
@Zaydan Alfariz We don't need Islamic policies in this country.
@@blackoak4978 The thing is, not even the Feds felt there was a case to be pursued and so declined to go forward. Even CNN admits that this is all bunk.
He was not arrested, he was arraigned. Big difference.
why isn't this on the TLDR US channel
A poll showed a majority of people in America think the arrest is politically motivated but also a majority support it
That's actually hilarious
how politically biased was this poll? source?
Because powerful people don't get in trouble unless other powerful get upset.
@@BooleanDev It was a poll reported by CNN.
If you’re referring to the poll I think you are, the wording wasn’t “politically motivated” but rather something to the effect of affected or influenced by politics or if politics had played a role (I forget the specific wording but it specifically wasn’t “motivated”).
Given that then nearly everyone on both sides say yes- his supporters claim it’s yet another politically motivated witch hunt and his detractors say that if he hadn’t been a president he would of been indicted long ago so therefore yes, it played a role or had an influence (specifically one of delaying the process).
Honestly, I see that the "hush money" charge didn't affect 2016 elections whatsoever.
Two states may have flipped to Clinton due to the very small number of votes separating the two, Pennsylvania and Wisconson, which would have tightened the Electoral College numbers but not the actual election. So, likely true.
didn't we know about it back then?
It's about time someone fully explained this

The 2nd civil war arc would be wonderful would be such a good sequel.
One of my favorite conspiracy theories is that the democrats charged Trump to boost his sagging Republican numbers. This in turn will insure his nomination. They believe they have a better chance beating him than another nominee.
Yeah, they don't seem to realize that by boosting Trump, he WILL defeat Biden because of buyer's remorse. This is going to play out much like the election of 1892 where Grover Cleaveland won in a landslide because the electorate was infuriated by the previous election' fiasco.
That’s just common sense.
I actually thought about that 4d chess move too 😄
That's a _lot_ of presumption & speculation though. I don't know how well the Dems have their finger on the pulse of the current environment. For example, they speak of Woke principles & values as if they are assumed by the public at large. This filtre could really screw up their predictions of Trump's political success.
This is a dumb conspiracy because a grand jury full of random people throughout Manhattan decided to charge trump not the democratic DA although he has a role, in the end it’s the jury’s decision and they decided there was enough evidence for an arrest.
Favorite cause of the Olympic level gymnastics needed to arrive at that conclusion? If so then yeah that's a good one.
