      @@PromLesbian Well, to each their own. I don’t feel bad for others since we each find our own pleasures. I’m sure fans of other bands and performers may feel the same way. It makes me think of tribals I’m and religion, where people may distinguish between themselves and ‘outsiders/non-believers’, though of course we Rush or music fans may not be so rigid or arrogant as some group members may be.

    The Camera Eye" is a two-part track with sections unofficially titled
    "New York" and "London". Peart wrote the lyrics after taking walks in
    both cities, recalling observations and the rhythms he felt during them

    How have I never realized how great Alex Lifeson's guitar solo at 9:48 is? The note selection and phrasing is impeccable!

    • @matthewhoag2609
      @matthewhoag2609 3 года назад +6

      Alex wows me in any period. He was always evolving and adding new techniques to his repertoire. He was breaking away from the blues based (pentatonic) modes in this period and exploring others - think of the solo in YYZ. He becomes the master of the whammy bar and harmonics. In the 80’s synth period, even when he didn’t do a flashy solo, his part always got the song perfectly, like 3:00 in to Red Sector A.

    • @romanfernandez3008
      @romanfernandez3008 3 года назад +8

      Said it a million times, I’ll say it again - Alex’s best and most profound solo. It’s like he’s attempting a tightrope walk between two towers 10,000 feet in the sky. And one of, if not, RUSH’s most hair raising track!

    In 1981 when Moving Pictures came out it just reaffirmed Rush's greatest! I'm a drummer and I love how those guys build a song up until you're absolutely stunned by the superior musicianship at the end of every track. I've had the pleasure going to 3 shows and watched my idol Neil Peart live! So awesome to experience the Professor's virtuosity on the drums! Truly a beautiful thing to watch! Watch more Rush. • @JasonSmith-jr7jh

      BU2B is incredible. The bridge section: "...until our final breath..." is one of the most soaring pieces of music ever from Latter- Day-Rush. The lyric, as genius as it is, is heart-breaking for me though. Along with Snakes and Arrows, the atheistic bedrock of their 21st century output is very cynical. And I wasn't 'brought up to believe' either, I sought out Christianity of my own accord. Sorry, I know this is NOT the forum for such discussions. I'm just glad to see someone else who appreciates the musical greatness of this track. Now I'm waiting for someone out there who actually likes Available Light, from Presto! 32 years, and I've yet to find even a RUSH fan who likes that track, besides me! ☮️

    YES 1st album: '69. ELP 1st album: '70. RUSH 1st album: 1974. Yes, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Emerson Lake and Palmer, soooo many bands making a huge mark in rock history. RUSH was JUST behind that curve and rode that wave nicely. How many big three man bands out there? Rush. The Police. Emerson Lake and Palmer. It really is something to be able to perform this music live with three people.
    For me? I'm just that few years older and the forebears lifted RUSH to greater heights. They had those years to take in everything that was already happening in the prog-rock scene. A child of the times, and a worthy one at that.

"The Big Money", "Manhattan Project" and "Territories". When you do these I recommend the lyric versions because they are more of Niel Peart's awesome heavy lyrics, especially Manhattan Project which is about some WWII history. ✌️😎

    You really need to check out some 80s Rush...they call it the "keyboard era" and that's a misnomer because as an old bass player myself, Geddy was at the top of his game bass wise...they all were creatively. Some "purists" just couldn't take Alex switching to single coil pick ups and the added texture of synths as well as electronic percussion...always played by them personally..a couple triggers hit by a stick or a foot switch now and then...but always more of an atribute and a challenge to themselves to pull it off in front of a live audience as well as enabling them to go with the always changing times and remain relevant for as long as they did.( and even DEFINE certain aspects of music) They were one of THE GREATEST ALL TIME..and to dismiss the 80s period ...which honestly was them at their absolute PRIME musically...is a SHAME. So I hope you will do some 80s Rush reactions...If I may offer a few suggestions that won't fall to out of the mainstream but are ALWAYS overlooked that I think you would enjoy; TURN THE PAGE, BIG MONEY, EMOTION DETECTOR, MIDDLETOWN DREAMS...earliar 80s ANALOG KID and it's counterpart song DIGITAL MAN can not be missed. BETWEEN THE WHEELS From Grace Under Pressure . Love ya ..and your rock journey...(hope your learning how to play an instrument a little bit on the side). Thanks for the reaction . you are great!

    Alex solo (puts hand over face) ha ha!
    Now you know. I saw Roll the Bones or Presto, I can’t remember which one, where I had second row left of center. I even think it might have been Alex’s birthday. Anyway, I had an excellent seat and it turned out that I was directly in line with Alex’s mic stand. I mean perfectly centered. One seat to right, I would have been off. One seat to the left, I would have been off. And when standing on my seat, his beautiful blue Paul Reed Smith guitar was directly straight level across to my head level. He had to keep coming back to that point blank spot. I had seen RUSH many times up until that point but I will never forget that night.
    I felt like he was personally kicking my ass. I mean perfect alinement you can’t pay for! I never forget it!

      Um, I don’t think so. I think it’s simply a dialog between 2 Brits. They are in London at this point in the song. One says [British accent] ‘Hello’ and other replies’Morning guv.’ Here is some trivia, though. At the beginning of the song you hear hustle and bustle and horns beeping, and someone saying something unintelligible. They are actually saying ‘fresh fruit.’ The audio is taken from the beginning of the first Superman movie. The bird flapping noise you hear as the synth drones start is not birds flapping but a bunch of typewriters in the Daily Planet, taken from the same Superman scene.

    Love the way you listen carefully each song without pauses to comment between each Section. You just catch the flow from intro to ending, that shows big music sensivity. With this kind of talent you could be a great Musician or a Music Manager able to nail any Music genre, and I say so because Rush, as most Prog Bands, needs a particular taste, maybe more empathic to feel the real thing. Is it weird that I think some of the instrumental sections could be at home in the Tron soundtrack?

    Since you seem to dig prog, I’d highly suggest (if you haven’t already checked them out) The Mars Volta. I’d check out Son Et Lumiere/Inertiatic ESP off of Deloused at the Comatorium. It’s a good starting point for this band.

      @@POPE. looking forward to it! I read (can’t recall where) that Neil said it’s the hardest drum song he ever played, due to utilizing the cymbals as much as he did.

    My favorite Lifeson solo. What separates Moving Pictures from other Rush albums is the atmosphere of it. Permanent Waves and Signals were both recorded at Le Studio yet Moving Pictures has this 3D atmosphere surrounding it, it's like you can reach out and grab it. Every instrument sounds big and clean in a way no other Rush record would. It still fascinates me today. Moving Pictures was the 1st CD I owned back in 1993 and nothing sounds remotely close.

    Way past the sky.
    Man terrific way to put it.
    So great seeing people appreciating the band, especially deep cuts like this, whether you like them or not.
    Cheers!
