    Chuck Tingle is a national treasure and seems like an incredibly sweet guy. I follow him on tumblr and have for a while (and yes, tumblr still exists and people still use it, including Chuck Tingle) and he just... seems like a super positive, nice dude who just really likes writing positive, fun erotica stories (and also non-erotic stories for what he has dubbed his asexual buckaroos.)

    Unfortunately TONS of authors are putting down the pen due to people being sensitive about TWs. Especially in the Splatterpunk/Extreme Horror communities. I get so sad that people can’t just gauge what the book MY entail by the title or synopsis. The whole cancelling authors thing just gives “book banning” energy. I think its up to each person to be responsible for their own triggers, and definitely should not be reading anything in extreme genres if they are that sensitive.

    • @matfan-q7p
      @matfan-q7p 8 месяцев назад +8

      I think the point of trigger warnings should just be a way to let people know what's in the book ahead of time so they know what to avoid for themselves, but no one should stop writing or not be able to put that subject matter in their books. Having trigger warnings shouldn't be seen as a negative for either "side" imo. It should just be informative rather than a way to judge "quality."

    • @omexaprime
      @omexaprime 7 месяцев назад +1

      As someone who reads splatterpunk and eh and also NEEDS trigger warnings because I have ptsd (mostly around sa), I completely disagree. A synopsis may sound really fun but may not mention sa or imply it until I pick it up. It’s not that I can’t handle gore or I’m “sensitive”, I lived through something life shattering to me that I still cope with 4 years later and I need a little guidance sometimes, especially if I’m already struggling mentally. I hope you realize that having triggers does not make someone sensitive and I hope you reevaluate your empathy towards people.

    there are some erotic books that are more horror-leaning, and might be more up your alley. these do also have content warnings at the front, so you know more about what you're getting into.
    - A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor by Kathryn Moon - this is set in a bordello that serves monster clients, where there's an overarching story of trying to take down a force that's trying to destroy these bordellos because they're seen as too "human friendly". this is the first book in a trilogy, and the pacing is a bit wonky because it's trying to set everything up, but it's a good litmus test to see what you enjoy reading in erotica since it goes through a _lot_ of kinks/scenarios
    - Her Soul to Take by Harley Laroux - a ghosthunter comes back to their small town and ends up in an alliance with a demon controlled by the local cult. this is marketed as a dark romance, with elements of stalking woven into it, but the rules for the supernatural in this book left me intrigued throughout the entire thing. i haven't read the rest of this trilogy yet, but it absolutely leans into the horror elements present (and i absolutely am going to get the rest of the series).
    I also have Heartless Heathens by Satana Knox on my tbr, which says it's a gothic romance/erotica story, but since i haven't read it yet i can't say if it's good or not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but it's another horror-leaning erotica to be aware of.

    Chuck Tingle is an amazing person. I have bought several of his Tinglers to support him... and they're actually weirdly good, or at least fun.
    Another candidate for weird porn books is Dwindle Gee. I read her "A Vampire Turned Me Into A Sexy Blood Gathering Succubus". Can's say it was *good* exactly, but it was wild.

  • @Eucis93
    @Eucis93 10 месяцев назад +4

    I agree, content warnings for books are getting ridiculous. I also think it’s kind of weird to print them into the book; if someone truly can’t stand reading about a certain scenario, you’d think they would look it up /before/ buying and reading it, no? Or is it a common practice to just buy books blindly without looking up reviews or anything about it before hand?
    I’m sure some authors use content warnings as jokes too, so I don’t take them too seriously. I always just skip over them, because honestly I see them more as spoilers than anything.
    I forget the title but I recently saw someone review a book where a really crazy scene was completely spoiled, in detail, by the content warnings. Like imagine buying a highly anticipated new release and it spoils itself immediately 💀
    I personally can read about pretty much anything except animal abuse, death and violence, but everything else is fine by me lmao. Even then I kinda just skip and don’t read those parts, it’s not really something that ruins a book for me.

    • @matfan-q7p
      @matfan-q7p 8 месяцев назад +3

      It's easier to skip over a trigger warning if you don't care about that sort of thing than it is to skip certain parts of a text you may not want to read. A trigger warning itself shouldn't ruin a book for someone either, no? I think people get a little too upset over the inclusion of trigger warnings personally. If it doesn't apply to you, then it's obviously not meant for you. Who is it hurting?

    When it comes to content considerations in erotica, I think it's more about letting readers know if it's something they want to get off to or not 😅 So someone might not find condom usage erotic so they might decide to skip the story if they're in the mood for something else. Whatever floats your boat and all that! ❤
