it worked for my 9 year old hunting line beagle! in her 9 years of life i just accepted that walks w her were just us looking for rabbits haha. and just this year i learned about reinforcement history and it’s been life changing. now she asks for permission when she comes across a scent. very cool
Cheers again Susan! ...Great podcast and timely reminder for me. This weekend I put my BC into a new and potentially stressful situation. Lots of people, lots of dogs, different household etiquette. She did so well! I kept thinking and repeating.... education, environment....remember ..she's doing her best and I must do my best by her too. Reinforce, reward, manipulate the environment, advocate so setting her for up success 🙌 Well mostly! 🤔
This...!!!! Yes. This is a conversation that I needed to hear today. My little is telling me something that I was unwilling to hear; or perhaps I didn't want to hear. I am not where her value lies... I have work to do!
I love watching my dog play along with the episode. 1:28 Sit. My dog sits. 1:30 SIIIIIIIIT. What more do you want from me woman? Dog Lays down. Case in point that repeating yourself doesn't add the clarity you think it does lol
Hi Susan! I have a video request! Can you make a video about all your dogs, their personalities, likes and dislikes, what you love most about them etc...It would be fun to learn about your critters!
Another fantastic podcast, it had me howling with laughter when the acronym was put with the panda, that was hilarious. I love your comedic, light-hearted but passionate take on dog training, it makes watching the videos and listening to the podcasts so much more engaging and entertaining. Thanks for another brilliant lesson :)
Oh I haven't seen that panda clip in YEARS and it was SOOOO adorable..... Mom got so startled by that baby's sneeze... Oh the fact that such adorable hilarious moments like that exist in the world in and of themselves make life worth living 😂❤
Long time Recaller here and I must watch this again. I know I need to be, and can be, better in the Conversation with my dog. Thanks for helping me get there. 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪
Just today one of my family members was commenting on how well our two dogs communicate. If you are listening they will see the value in learning to communicate with us and get better at it. When I foster a high energy, out of control, dog I imagine that the main challenge is that they have no idea humans can listen and be reasoned with. The book "A Man Without Words" documents a deaf man learning language for the first time as an adult and it's very emotional. This is how I imagine dogs feel when they finally realize a human can be communicated with. Imagine a life of frustration and helplessness, only to realize years later you could have just talked about your frustrations and worked through them. Many dogs never get this chance. I realize I'm anthropomorphizing and I'll never really know what dogs are thinking, but in this case I think it leads to compassion and I forgive myself for it. My dogs aren't perfect, we have a long way to go on the communication front, but I'm happy for the relationships we do have with them. I appreciate you putting this concept into words, Susan, and the relationships you've helped me build with my dogs. I also appreciate your team for supporting your message with excellent graphics!
dogs do their best with the information We have given them in the environment that they’re in at their given mental and physical state. I think it’s important to acknowledge a dog’s mental and physical state within the catchphrase.
Oof I'm behind! How did you get This! to tug in front of the other dogs? My rough collie sits when he sees other dogs out and getting his attention from them to me is next to impossible. I suspect some similarities are there and I'd love to see that! Thank you again for all you do.

I’m confused again and I’m really good at math. 🤔

How do you transfer the value to you?

Best acronym ever! Never going to forget it! And it’s one that I need to keep reminding myself of. ❤️😂

Excellent information as always! And good reminders for those of us who have been training for a long time, too!
Great information as always ❤️
