My other Akaso is a Brave 7 LE not a Brave 5
    *******************
One of those times companies tried to put more into their product to increase cost and make shareholders happy and makes their product a pile of garbage.
If you have a GoPro older model (before 10), you'll probably be ok. But don't buy an older model, they are overpriced for the quality you will get. Akaso camera is better quality and less than half the price than the older models of GoPro, and frankly videos are easier to edit.
I struggle everyday with the overheating on my 12, and waste money trying to find ways to get it to run longer than 30 minutes, like my external battery attempt. I did check before I bought the battery, it said it works with a 12. And yes it does, technically, but the restrictions for application defeat the whole purpose of getting an external battery.
So back to the Akaso camera. Just have to change camera placement so I stop getting complaints about my breathing from the external microphone being too sensitive.

I’m not sure it functions the same as my action 4 but I found that if I used external power without a battery in it, my camera heated up rather quickly. I tested it with a battery in it at 100 percent and never got as hot or took much longer.

Interesting. I could try that, as I tested my new battery on the GoPro and it overheated again 23 minutes. If the camera still works, I could try with battery in, but honestly I'm done. Going back to simple with the AKASO. I just want to fish and take some video to remember the trip by.

Buy the dji action 3.. no over heating I ran it for 8 hours straight in a hot room with no air circulation

Since my AKASO is starting to lose its functions (won't update, remote stopped working, etc.), I will look into that. But really the enemy is the sun. A hot room for 8 hours is just not the same as the sun beating down on a black colored camera for 4 or 5 hours. I'm sure the GoPro will still overheat despite my getting the external battery issue resolved (hopefully will record long enough to catch footage of me reeling in at least), so thanks again for the heads up.

That's a bummer. I bought a 26800 mAh battery on Amazon. It has both a 1A and a 2A port. I put it in a dry bag and that has worked quite well. I use that with a gopro 9 (or 8 I can't remember)

I got a battery coming from Best Buy, pumps out 3.3 amps. The only one I could see that actually says it puts out at least 2 amps. I did a search on Amazon and found that GoPro battery, said it was compatible with the 12, so I thought I was safe. Many batteries talk about the wattage and how many hours, few mention the amperage. The power cables as well, but it looked like fast charge cords are USUALLY 2a. I still made sure it was in writing. Since my kayak has a storage drawer under the seat, water is not an issue. Already tested my AKASO on Monday using the GoPro battery as well as my kayak battery. Both ways work great, just very little audio and my camera pole isn't very tall (yours must be taller to get the angle you have). I can't use the head mount style while plugged into the kayak though. It is both strange, and pleasing, to not have to worry about changing batteries.

Try upgrading or replacing your SD Card to/with a SanDisk Extreme/Extreme Pro or Samsung EVO. We run Extreme Pro cards in all of our GoPro cameras.

I have the SanDisk Extreme. I could try the Samsung, however I believe the camera overheated one too many times and now no longer functions well. I got the upgraded battery, plugged it in with the internal battery out, but the camera over heated in 23 minutes once again in a test.
