  • In this episode we travel through the DRC to Angola. We have a few hiccups by heading down some "goat tracks" but eventually get to the border with Angola - probably the most disorganised border we've been to so far.
Thank you so much for stopping by and watching!

I used to think I was a pretty tough guy when I was younger, been broke down in the middle of the desert days from a road, traveled solo through some pretty wild countries, but you guys make me feel like such a wimp. Just can't even imagine doing what you're doing, good on 'ya, as they say.

So you did not stop anywhere to see the sights in DRC? I was just wondering how safe it is there and the US state department says to avoid travel there.

I must admit that we only travelled through a small portion of the DRC. It was hot, humid, dusty and we were all a bit exhausted and spent from the visa issues we had experienced. We visited some friends in Matadi but besides that, we didn't do any specific sightseeing such as the gorillas or the Nyiragongo Volcano, amongst other sites. I would definitely visit again but would fly and drive if possible

DRC was great despite the issues we had with our vehicle. We will definitely return one day!

Yeah if you stay out of big cities. Guess how many dirt roads are in the US? I don't know, because there's loads. Gotta take a very LONG one to get to my uncle's house! My friend that doesn't live too far away from me (& keeps wolves as pets may I add) also lives down a dirt road. He's tired of the wear & tear on his car & constantly looks for affordable pricing here, but w/gentrification prices keep going up & up. New places are going for $800-1,000/month - that may not seem a lot wherever you are, but round here that's prohibitive for moving. And DON'T get my started on the ever decaying quality of the road right outside our home! (they've given up on tarmac & are patching it w/metal!) Luckily my dad owns our house, but the neighborhood overall is worse & worse & covid knocked all our personal finances a blow which only my brother has recovered (somewhat) from & moved to a big city. Here's the catch: they gave him his salary while he was here like it was comparable. Making the kind of $ he makes there would go a LONG way here, but he had to move into the city (he signed the contract right - "we were under the impression you could move?") & his paycheck there is a joke! Joanna the Scamma is runnin everywhere. Keep your senses sharp my friend!
