This is a very authentic voice "A man that hath no past has no future" - Fela Sowande. Thank you all for this great resource!

If he had not gone to USA, we probably would not have heard of him or his legacy

I don’t believe that. He was well known in Nigeria before he went to USA, his teacher is baba ekundayo Philips who is well known as a writer of a lot of Yoruba hymns in Anglican Church. Do you know that Baba showande is the chairman of the screening committee for the Nigerian anthem at independence. Just a pity we don’t study history in Nigeria anymore…

Has there been any composition student of Fela Sowande's from Africa, from Nigeria?

I don't think he would class himself as a composition student of Sowande's but Godwin Sadoh, ethnomusicologist and composer, has published a number of books on African composers including Sowande... www.amazon.com/Organ-Works-Fela-Sowande-Perspectives-ebook/dp/B079J7MZ8W
      Hope that's a useful lead?

      Yeah, definitely look into Sadoh.
In general here in Nigeria we are indirect students of his, and practitioners of his musical methods.

Is there a link somewhere to the music playing at the end of the video?
