9:30 - Just an FYI, you don't need to download the voice models one by one from Nexus Mods. If you have Nexus Premium, you can download one or all of them through xVASynth app. This and other methods are described in the official Mantella guide.
This is actually insane... Stumbled upon this mod while modding Skyrim VR for the first time. Never would've guessed this was already possible. Skyrim modders are built different.

Did you end up having any issues? I followed this tutorial to the letter and keep getting errors. The game loads and everything and I even reinstalled the mod and everything but keep getting “ NPC not added.” Error
Just a quick FYI for folks - one thing that wasn't covered in this tutorial - as one of the last steps, before running Mantella - you need to crack open that directory that contains the Mantella executable and open Mantella's config.ini: in that file, make sure the directories to your Skyrim Game folder, xVA synth location, etc. are properly set to the right directories. The default settings are placeholders that are not correct, but they have comments above the setting that will tell you what to do. Additionally, this mod might not work properly if you installed SkyrimSE/VR on your primary OS (C:\) drive via Steam - you want to install Skyrim Special Edition or Skyrim VR on an alternate drive, in a dedicated steam library folder. This config.ini file is also where you can set LLM token limits (for better NPC memory), LLM choice (GPT-4, GPT-3.5, local LLM models), LLM prompts for different NPC interactions, and so on. It's all pretty well documented in the file, so it's worth looking through the whole thing so you can tweak it to your liking.

The extra hoops to get AI npc mods working is the only thing holding back wide adoption. Once someone packages all the settings, API stuff, file configurations, voice packs, into an autoinstaller this is going to take off like crazy.

I've not played Skyrim since launch many years ago, but this pulled me back and is great in a Pimax Crystal. They do already. Each LLM has what called a token count. The more expensive the LLM the higher the token count. The higher the token count the more each NPC can remember. I annoyed the blacksmith and he remembered it and didn't like me because of it when I spoke to him next time after a bit of questing. You can literally walk up to an NPC after a while of gaming and ask them if they remember your last conversation, name, details you may have told them. It's all stored in the LLM and stays there for each play. It's pretty baffling.

Amazing tutorial thank you!!! For any modding noobs out there just carefully read the mantella console messages when they do fail. Oftentimes they provide a link or tell you exactly what the issue is. For me, it came down to file paths. It was adding a subfolder to the paths that didn't exist. Double check all your paths in config.ini to point to the right file locations, and make sure you scroll down a bit to select your language model. That part got me stuck for a bit 😅

Ive spent 6 hours on my free day and cannot get this thing to work... i followed the instructions to the letter and when i attempt to speak to a npc it always says " npc not added". There are not q&a ANYWHERE online that could possibly have a fix to this and im stuck figuring it out all alone. Can someone for the love of Talos please HELP ME!
Talos be with you. When you run XVA do you see the list of all the voice packs? Do you also keep XVA running in the background while in game? This is a common issue I've seen before have you asked the mantella discord? I plan on working with the devs to make a new tutorial as the mod had changed a bit.
@@DeadPixelGaming honestly I want to try a fresh install but it took me 3 days straight to get all my mods working for Skyrim VR. I do keep VA opened in the back, then I open my game and wait for it to load then I open up mantella. I noticed that the mantella exe file is displaying the npcs voice lines but it doesn’t transfer to the game and then I get the “ npc not added” error message afterwards. I am in the middle of trying to get help in discord
I think my last comment bugged out or something, good video, thanks for the help, I ended up joining their discord and have been asking (interrogating) one of the devs and it seems like they are in the process of swapping the communication language (nerd stuff) removing the need to move the game out of the (x86) folder, once they do that I will be making a few videos on this mod on my channel, in the future, so thanks again and here's to the future of AI in video games 👍
Annoyingly youtube likes to delete comments thinking they are malicious when they are not. Truth be told I've always installed in x86 and never had any issues. I'm glad I could at least get you most of the way 😊
I mentioned it in the video, it's recomended to create a directory outside of x86 for the game folder and mods as Windows doesn't like changing files in x86. That being said I've always installed my games and thr mod in x86 and never had problems... (I think I mention it in my Fo4 Mantella video).

@Vlask it's in a sub menu under XVASynth in github. It's hidden away. If you see my Fo4 video you'll see where the Fo4 one is. I presume it will be the same for th Skyrim github. This is a working development so a lot has changed in the short time since I've made this video.

Hi there, have you managed to have a conversation yet? If so always make sure to end conversation before walking away. When you have this error after a conversation just minimise your game and restart mantella. I keep SKSEVR and mantella on my hot bar to make this easier.

I thinks it's a bit of both really, I think mantella gives each character a short brief on who they are and GPT chat bots do the rest. It'd wizardry if you ask me... I've come across a few bugs, you know the roaming hunter's, male and female. Well mantella can't differentiate between them as they are both always called hunter. So the female has a male voice. The funniest bug I had was trying to talk to a noble on a horse. Eventually the noble freaked and and ran away and I realised it was actually the horse I was talking to... he told me a long story about how he was a magical horse born with the abilities to talk to humans and that he was glad the gods had blessed him with it 🤣🤣😂 truly I haven't done anything in the games quest line. All I do is mess with players with mantella hahaha
There's a skyrim_characters spreadsheet with thousands of npc entries. Each entry includes a bio for the LLM (AI) to use as a reference for how to properly roleplay that npc. Originally, these bios were all copy/pasted from the TES wiki. Over the past months I have been editing/overhauling these bios, adding in info that npc should know, and removing spoilery info, discussion of game mechanics and bugs, etc. Myself and others have also added entries for about a thousand different npcs from mods.

I have a quick question. After getting the mod up and running, once I get into a game it says “NPC not added. Please try again after your next response.” When I try to talk to them. What exactly is it prompting me to do? I have all voice models loaded into VAsynth, so I don’t get why it gives me this notification.

30p a DAY to play SkyrimVR with Mantella through OpenAI? If it was a one off payment to use it indefinately? I'd be cool with that. But subscription service? Gutted! I almost had the mods all completely installed, spent a few free nights to download all the voice files and set it up. Gutted! 😮💨
I'm having trouble with XVASynth. I installed all the 80+ voice models into the folder where you showed, but the XVASynth is saying it can't find them. Run into anything like that before?
Did you extract the voice files directly into the Skyrim folder you made or did you just extract the download files directly into the skyrim folder? You need to copy the voice files to the Skyrim folder. If this isn't the issue if you watch my video I show how to direct XVASynth to the correct folder.
@@DeadPixelGaming I did miss a step. However, I think downloading them all through XVASynth (I have a nexus subscription) was far easier than pulling all those files out of each folder individually 80+ times. Still, thank you so much for the reply!

Hi, I followed all steps but I still get the error message “NPC not added” when trying to start a conversation I’m on normal SE version not VR. Checked Mantella, and it says the path set in config.ini does not exist
Have you managed to make any conversations at all? If so remember to use the end convo spell or this can pop up. Are you also sure you've started SKSEVR through the shortcut that's been set to run as admin?
@@DeadPixelGaming I haven't been able to make conversation at all. It gives me that same error with every NPC. I have tried end convo as well. I'm using MO2 and have been starting the game via skse, but am not using VR.
@@DeadPixelGaming I found something that is probably contributing to the problem. When I open the Mantella shortcut it reads: "C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition" does not exist! The path set in config.ini: "C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition" Press any key to exit...
Also, I can't guarantee the process will work if you're using a different mod manager and not following the process directly I.e opening via the SKSEVR/SKSE launcher. These are things I have not tested.
unfortunately i keep getting this error in mantella when npc is trying to respond to me: Error 401: Unauthorized. ERROR: Invalid API key. If you are trying to connect to OpenAI, please choose an OpenAI model via the 'model' setting in MantellaSoftware/config.ini. If you are instead trying to connect to a local model, please ensure the service is running" I've done everything, everything is in the correct path, I set a language model, I set api key with credit, i dont know what to do.
What this line is referring to is the API in config.ini. The config.ini is now set to openrouter as default not openai. So you need to change the API in the language models section. When I first made this guide the API was set to openai. Although with that being said I believe that mantella now detects which API is being used and automatically adjusts... hmm have a look in your config under language model.
@@DeadPixelGaming Thank you, I tried different models between openai and openroute it worked. now that it works (extremely slow), it stops working after like 2 chats. Extremely buggy and clunky, is it the same case for you and everyone ?
@GaminCityy it's down to which model you use. Toppyaifree is a free one and actually not that bad. You have to know that many of these models are not made for game AI but for classes or other applications. There are set recommended LLMs which work well and some which are terrible!!
Regarding the delay, there always will be one. You're asking software a question, it's changing it into text based on what it thinks it's heard, its then sending that text as a request to an AI on a server, the server then deals with the request and sends the answer back and then once its back XVA converts it into a voice response. All things considered it's pretty fast.
Open the config.ini. there are 3 paths required. 1: where the game is, 2: where the mods folder is and 3: where xva is. Check my latest video, Fallout 4 VR Mantella. Its there.
that worked for the skyrim folder but now in red its saying "13:19:32.004 ERROR: "C:\mod\Sound\Voice\Mantella.esp" does not exist!" ive tryed everything and i watched your fall out vid talking abt it but i changed it in the .ini and it keeps saying that@@DeadPixelGaming
You just need to set the 3rd path to where your xva exe is. I can give you 1 to 1 guidance on my Discord but not this moment I'm afraid. Maybe if you have time tomorrow? It appears to me that your paths are incorrect.

No es una parte necesaria del proceso. Pero siempre lo recomiendo porque el 50% de las personas que tienen problemas para instalar mods les sobran mods/mods a medio instalar y demás basura que causa problemas. Con una instalación nueva y limpia puedo estar seguro de que funcionará. (pero todavía la gente no escucha y todavía tiene problemas). Espero haber respondido a su pregunta.

Eh I figured a lot of it out, but i'm running into an issue with the LLM. {"error":{"message":"Missing Authentication header or invalid API key","code":401}} I paid for it, added the key double checked but it's not using it. Does openAI not work anymore?
Please check the description of the video, since making this video the standard API has been changed to openrouter toppyaifree LLM. As you've already topped up an openai account you may as well change the langauge model to the openai LLM. The default API is in the config.ini under language model.
@@DeadPixelGaming I found it after some searchin, I saw on the mantella nexus update, he changed the default LLM and I found it through that. I have everything working now except the MCM, all I have is skyUI, but I'll figure that piece out. I must have used an outdated/to recent release of something. So everything works, except npcs following and stuff, but worst case I can live with that. Thanks Man!
If you watch my reporter video for Fo4 and compare it to my skyrim videos you'll notice the Fo4 videos are more realistic and that's because I use a local model with xTTS to synthesise the voice and its insanely real / sweary / emotional! As for what Mantella is currently cooking up it's currently a secret but it'll blow your mind... its blown mine
I've not tried it for Skryim but yes it's a lot better. You do however need a 4080S or a 4090. It uses a huge amount of resources. Alternatively you can use runpod.io. xTTS also runs directly through the mantella launcher so once you start mantella it launches xTTS. It's good stuff. The difference in voice from xva to xTTS in Fo4 is night and day... it just can't do cotswold or robots well (ironically)
Is it normal for the npc's to take a long time to listen or sometimes not even listen at all? I got it all working but the interactions feel so wonky and slow. Are you experiencing this too and is it just the way it is at this point in time?
You'll get used to casting the spell and timing your questions. Make sure to end all conversations or it can get buggy. And yes it takes a couple seconds, the better the language model the faster the response. I made a video on LLMs have a look on my channel and be sure to subscribe if it's helped!
Reality vs expectations. We all watch a Brainfrog video and want that, truth is just enjoy his videos because his editing makes this seem much smoother than it is. Not to mention his creativity. It's like expectations towards DnD after watching Matt Mercer DM a game.
@TrailerTrashThorne I know brainfrog, he's in my Discord and I in his. He uses xTTS to synthesise not XVA its far far superior but requires a 4080+ or runpod.io. He also uses a brilliant VM, one I used later in Fo4 videos. And yes also not to mention the guys a genius with his ideas and editing

No, Po3 should work fine. Although it's been a long time since I've done this! Some things are due to change, including a big change in the install process

Hey, make sure to read the description when installing there's a few extra steps. For the NSFW stuff you have to change the langauge model, it's a guide I plan on making soon. There are hundreds of LLMs but I'm yet to find a NSFW one that isn't janky. AI at the moment is being censored closely because of its capabilities. got to the part to make a shortcut of the loader to the desktop, but in the game folder it does not show any file labeled loader at all? Really want this mod to work. please, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi thank you, im glad you liked the guide. A few things have changed, as mentioned in the description its now free with the current LLM and API. It supports about 12 languages off the top of my head, you can change the langauge in the config.ini. Please remember that if you choose to do so, dont do the CMUdict part of the tutorial as thats only for english. Glad it helped! dont forget to sub!
I’m using OpenAI for my model, I realise it’s costing a lot more than expected using the GPT 4 turbo, is there another AI platform that we can use that is free? It’s working out as like a dollar every hour or so
ok guys if you don't want to doube your space this mod will take delete the archives after extracting them. example would be right before 14:12 he extracted them all and kept the archives. the archives are just compressed versions and still contain all the data. that folder now is almost 38gb instead of 18gb.
Why would anyone need to be told to delete the compressed VM's? Once extracted and used the compressed VM's are obviously to be deleted. If someone following this tutorial didn't know that I doubt they'd be able to successfully carry it out this tutorial especially considering the changes made to Mantella since I've made this guide.
@DeadPixelGaming for the most part, the tutorial is done well enough, I'd say a complete novice could easily follow along, and successfully have no issues. Reminiscent of gamer poets in the early days. I guess I had mistaken this as a beginner tutorial and felt the comment was nessisary as such. Don't forget people of all skill levels will watch this. Some just getting into modding, and think it's all magic.
@Knobs4u you're right. Lots of different skill levels and very easy to forget people newer to the modding scene don't know these things. I appreciate the comment, I'd made this tutorial before I had contact with the Mantella devs. The Fo4 one was with support. Soon they'll drop an update which will change a lot and make the install process much easier. 😊
Mantella is similar to UEVR in that it changes files whilst they are in use. Some anti-virus suites see that as a threat. You'd need to set an exemption for Mantella.
I'm good until right at the end and when I go to open everything up I get an error from mantella saying "Mantella currently running for SkyrimVR (C;\games\steam\steamapps\common\skyrimVR) . Mantella mod located in C:\modding\M02\skyrimVR\mods\mantella 15:01:07.075 ERROR: "C:\games\steam\steamapps\common\SkyrimVR" does not exist! the path set in config.int: "C:\Games\Steam|steamapps\common\SkyrimVR" anybody willing to help? Im not very tech savvy and I spent about two days working through this to get this error at the end :(

So a lot has changed since this tutorial, I will be making a new one once they have their next update. If you read the description you'll see it's now free, it uses Toppyaifree which is openrouter as standard. You can also use a local model using xTTS the guide is on the github but it needs either an RTX4080s/4090 it takes a lot of resources. An alternative to running your LLM locally is by using Runpod.io but you've got to pay for that. Don't forget to subscribe, the new tutorial will be up as I said when their next major update comes.
No not in the slightest. Toppy is good because its free. I use noromaidneversleep. Its uncensored and tends to lean towards swearing. I know Brainfrog, he uses that model too.
so uh... whats going on with the ussep patches?? any mod I download after that "requires four masters" Am I the only person in the world looking for that fix? (Also I'm kinda new to modding but I've successfully downloaded over 200 mods without issue.
Can't say I've come across this issue, are you sure they aren't all the prerequisites you needed already such as SKSEVR etc? If not check in the Mantella discord they are brilliant

But yeah, you provided the wrong link for the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch and installed the VR one incorrectly. I don't even know how you managed to get it working yourself. I still used your video and gave you a like though.
@unnateural I made this tutorial when it was in its infancy without support from the devs. I had to research everything. A lot has changed since I made this guide, the config.ini especially. I'm not in any rush to make an updated version of this tutorial because it pretty much gets you there, and it was a long ass project. If you see my Fo4 guide its a lot more coherent and that's because I had the opportunity to work directly with the developer of the mod. Either way, thank you for the comment.
@@DeadPixelGaming Actually I just screwed up modding hardcore and had to start flat over. Tried installing it the same way and LOOT says it's not compatible. Is that normal? Still on USSEP problems. Man I manually downloaded all 85 files last night, don't wanna lose that haha

Is there a tutorial for a non VR version installation of this? Because I've followed this tutorial twice and resulted in the same problem with a DLL file and Address Library.
Hi there, yes it is possible in non vr. Firstly your unofficial patches need to be the latest ones (in the video for VR it has to be a specific older one) also you need to select the non-vr versions. If you are using SE or AE you need to select the correct Papyrus and library mods.

Just 2x4090s? Peasant spec! Yes you can run it locally using xTTS. You will need a 4080+ for reasonable performance. I ran it locally using xTTS and a 4080S and still preferred to pay runpod to hire a GPU to get extra performance.
When i open Mantella in the last step, appears this "Mantella currently running for SkyrimVR (C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\SkyrimVR). When I try to talk to M'aiq the Liar using the Mantella Spell I get a text on the top left screen that says: "NPC not added. Please try again after your next response" What does it mean?
You're playing two separate games. Skyrim VR is not Skyrim. You would follow the guide as normal but with a second mantella install (same xva install). Your config would point to the vr game and the current xva.
Followed everything correctly, I assume. But I'm having an issue with Mantella, the EXE closes on its own after starting up and "waiting for player to select NPC" and when I go to start it back up it's deleted from my PC... Looks like it may be antivirus putting it into quarantine but nothing shows up in windows firewall or BitDefender. Flabbergasted.
That's very odd windows defender has never given me any issues. If it's your virus defence you'll need to set an exception in your virus defence app. You can set a folder which your anti virus software leaves alone.
@@DeadPixelGaming Thanks. I was able to figure it out. While I had everything else running I kept missing the bitdefender notification. I solved it by running mantella without anything else running until bitdefender attempted quarantine and then stopped that process. Hasn't happened again. Cheers!
This tutorial is out dated I'm waiting for the new update which will change everything before I make another tutorial It now comes loaded with an openrouter LLM so just use openrouter for the key. Read the config.ini it literally tells you what to enter.
I doubt Rockstar will allow it. We had full VR with Praydogs mod but Rockstar gave him a cease and desist. I was one of the lucky few who got to play it. When I put footage up people thought it was a hoax lol.
I would suggest anniversary as it's got everything however SE would work too. Just be sure to use SE on Nexus and Voetez and be sure to use the non-vr versions of the apps. For example. SKSE (for your version) library mod not library VR. All your Papyrus mods too.

I tried this for 1 week every single day but there are bunch of errors 1- Mantella cmd says can no find folder of game it is so funny because it is there 2- in game mods not getting activated I see still default scenes 3- I see spells in game but when I try to use it it says "make sure you downloaded correct one" I did I am sure 100% I followed this video step by step and also I listened him carefully word to word sooo Goodluck guys I am failed

You're kidding right? I use noromaidneversleep which is one of the most expensive LLMs and in hours of playing I don't get near to 50c... it comes loaded with a free LLM from openrouter. You can literally do this for free.
Yep, I've installed this along with a wabbajack mod list. Start with a clean install, install the modlist then follow the mantella guide. Please note that the config has changed If you want a more up to date video check out my Fo4 mantella guides config section it's the same process more or less.

The language model it comes with now is a free one (topyaifree). You need to make your secret key from Openrouter.ai (but don't have to top up or pay anything). This software is changing rapidly. I will be making an updated guide when the new update comes.
I’m trying to set up my config.ini path locations. I am trying to find the folder that contains xtts-api-server-mantella.exe. I’m pretty sure that was never mentioned in the video. Do they mean the mantella.exe in the Mantella software folder?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m totally lost now.

Hey. thanks for this. it is appreciated. but a couple things. You move very fast - it was humbling as hell for a newbie like me. Second, i'm stuck at the mantella file...my nord vpn was cool downloading everything else prior. But there's apparently an exe file on there that doesn't that's scanned as malware. Is it just for redundancies to GPT? Why would there be malware?

What? The secret key stays in the mantella folder. The key is gained from the open.ai website. All mods should be downloaded via the "vortex download" button which as I said at the beginning of the video is how most of the files will be downloaded.
The mantella spell gets dropped into vortex or installed directly from nexus using the vortex install feature. The mantella software is kept separately. It has nothing to do with vortex and is where you will run mantella in the background from when skyrim is open

The vr version with other mods is the best way to experience it. I'll have a new tutorial out I'm just waiting the new version which the devs are working on. After they've implemented HTTP it should be a much easier install. Either way, people are still able to use this mod to get Mantella installed on Skyrim I'm getting a lot of comments. No dude you don't. Read the description. A lot has changed. Use openrouter not openai for the secret key and the LLM is free (don't change it, it's called toppyaifree) so don't top it up with any money. (Even though the old way used around $0.05 an hour.
Little question: I have everthing set up, but when i use the spell, the software just says, "Waiting for player to select an NPC". Absolutely nothing is happening. (I try to talk to a guard.) Besides it is a great guide!

(Keep in mind skyim vr is already launching through mod organizer) Does this mean I still have to go the vortex route and install all those other "redundant" mods again but via vortex? @1998natan oh man I can't speak for any other modpacks / wabajack. I know they can cause conflictions. Do you have all your voice packs installed, did you see the full list? Sounds to me like it's the XVA side of things, did you install lip and fuz?

It's not I'm afraid, however you can use wingmanAI from shipbit. However it wouldn't make NPCs talk to you It's more like an AI you can talk to and give a purpose
9:30 - Just an FYI, you don't need to download the voice models one by one from Nexus Mods. If you have Nexus Premium, you can download one or all of them through xVASynth app. This and other methods are described in the official Mantella guide.

This is actually insane... Stumbled upon this mod while modding Skyrim VR for the first time. Never would've guessed this was already possible. Skyrim modders are built different.

Did you end up having any issues? I followed this tutorial to the letter and keep getting errors. The game loads and everything and I even reinstalled the mod and everything but keep getting “ NPC not added.” Error
Just a quick FYI for folks - one thing that wasn't covered in this tutorial - as one of the last steps, before running Mantella - you need to crack open that directory that contains the Mantella executable and open Mantella's config.ini: in that file, make sure the directories to your Skyrim Game folder, xVA synth location, etc. are properly set to the right directories. The default settings are placeholders that are not correct, but they have comments above the setting that will tell you what to do. Additionally, this mod might not work properly if you installed SkyrimSE/VR on your primary OS (C:\) drive via Steam - you want to install Skyrim Special Edition or Skyrim VR on an alternate drive, in a dedicated steam library folder. This config.ini file is also where you can set LLM token limits (for better NPC memory), LLM choice (GPT-4, GPT-3.5, local LLM models), LLM prompts for different NPC interactions, and so on. It's all pretty well documented in the file, so it's worth looking through the whole thing so you can tweak it to your liking.

The extra hoops to get AI npc mods working is the only thing holding back wide adoption. Once someone packages all the settings, API stuff, file configurations, voice packs, into an autoinstaller this is going to take off like crazy.

They do already. Each LLM has what called a token count. The more expensive the LLM the higher the token count. The higher the token count the more each NPC can remember.
I annoyed the blacksmith and he remembered it and didn't like me because of it when I spoke to him next time after a bit of questing.
You can literally walk up to an NPC after a while of gaming and ask them if they remember your last conversation, name, details you may have told them. It's all stored in the LLM and stays there for each play.
It's pretty baffling.

For any modding noobs out there just carefully read the mantella console messages when they do fail. Oftentimes they provide a link or tell you exactly what the issue is. For me, it came down to file paths. It was adding a subfolder to the paths that didn't exist. Double check all your paths in config.ini to point to the right file locations, and make sure you scroll down a bit to select your language model.
That part got me stuck for a bit 😅

Ive spent 6 hours on my free day and cannot get this thing to work... i followed the instructions to the letter and when i attempt to speak to a npc it always says " npc not added". Talos be with you. When you run XVA do you see the list of all the voice packs? Do you also keep XVA running in the background while in game? This is a common issue I've seen before have you asked the mantella discord?

@@DeadPixelGaming honestly I want to try a fresh install but it took me 3 days straight to get all my mods working for Skyrim VR. I do keep VA opened in the back, then I open my game and wait for it to load then I open up mantella. I noticed that the mantella exe file is displaying the npcs voice lines but it doesn’t transfer to the game and then I get the “ npc not added” error message afterwards. I am in the middle of trying to get help in discord

I think my last comment bugged out or something, good video, thanks for the help, I ended up joining their discord and have been asking (interrogating) one of the devs and it seems like they are in the process of swapping the communication language (nerd stuff) removing the need to move the game out of the (x86) folder, once they do that I will be making a few videos on this mod on my channel, in the future, so thanks again and here's to the future of AI in video games 👍

I mentioned it in the video, it's recomended to create a directory outside of x86 for the game folder and mods as Windows doesn't like changing files in x86.
That being said I've always installed my games and thr mod in x86 and never had problems... (I think I mention it in my Fo4 Mantella video).

@Vlask it's in a sub menu under XVASynth in github. It's hidden away. If you see my Fo4 video you'll see where the Fo4 one is. I presume it will be the same for th Skyrim github. This is a working development so a lot has changed in the short time since I've made this video.

Hi there, have you managed to have a conversation yet? If so always make sure to end conversation before walking away.
When you have this error after a conversation just minimise your game and restart mantella.
I keep SKSEVR and mantella on my hot bar to make this easier.

I've come across a few bugs, you know the roaming hunter's, male and female. Well mantella can't differentiate between them as they are both always called hunter. So the female has a male voice.
The funniest bug I had was trying to talk to a noble on a horse. Eventually the noble freaked and and ran away and I realised it was actually the horse I was talking to... he told me a long story about how he was a magical horse born with the abilities to talk to humans and that he was glad the gods had blessed him with it 🤣🤣😂 truly I haven't done anything in the games quest line. All I do is mess with players with mantella hahaha
There's a skyrim_characters spreadsheet with thousands of npc entries. Each entry includes a bio for the LLM (AI) to use as a reference for how to properly roleplay that npc. Originally, these bios were all copy/pasted from the TES wiki. Over the past months I have been editing/overhauling these bios, adding in info that npc should know, and removing spoilery info, discussion of game mechanics and bugs, etc. Myself and others have also added entries for about a thousand different npcs from mods.
Can I write to talk to NPCs? Or is it strictly necessary to use the microphone? I say this because my microphone is damaged haha

I'm having trouble with XVASynth. I installed all the 80+ voice models into the folder where you showed, but the XVASynth is saying it can't find them. Run into anything like that before?
Did you extract the voice files directly into the Skyrim folder you made or did you just extract the download files directly into the skyrim folder? You need to copy the voice files to the Skyrim folder. If this isn't the issue if you watch my video I show how to direct XVASynth to the correct folder.
@@DeadPixelGaming I did miss a step. However, I think downloading them all through XVASynth (I have a nexus subscription) was far easier than pulling all those files out of each folder individually 80+ times. Still, thank you so much for the reply!

Please read the video description, you need to set the paths for your game, xva and mods folder in the config.ini
Also, I can't guarantee the process will work if you're using a different mod manager and not following the process directly I.e opening via the SKSEVR/SKSE launcher. These are things I have not tested.

I've done everything, everything is in the correct path, I set a language model, I set api key with credit, i dont know what to do.
What this line is referring to is the API in config.ini. The config.ini is now set to openrouter as default not openai. So you need to change the API in the language models section. When I first made this guide the API was set to openai.
Although with that being said I believe that mantella now detects which API is being used and automatically adjusts... hmm have a look in your config under language model.

@GaminCityy it's down to which model you use. Toppyaifree is a free one and actually not that bad. You have to know that many of these models are not made for game AI but for classes or other applications. There are set recommended LLMs which work well and some which are terrible!!
Regarding the delay, there always will be one. You're asking software a question, it's changing it into text based on what it thinks it's heard, its then sending that text as a request to an AI on a server, the server then deals with the request and sends the answer back and then once its back XVA converts it into a voice response. All things considered it's pretty fast.

Open the config.ini. there are 3 paths required. 1: where the game is, 2: where the mods folder is and 3: where xva is.

No es una parte necesaria del proceso. Pero siempre lo recomiendo porque el 50% de las personas que tienen problemas para instalar mods les sobran mods/mods a medio instalar y demás basura que causa problemas. Con una instalación nueva y limpia puedo estar seguro de que funcionará. (pero todavía la gente no escucha y todavía tiene problemas). Espero haber respondido a su pregunta.

Eh I figured a lot of it out, but i'm running into an issue with the LLM. {"error":{"message":"Missing Authentication header or invalid API key","code":401}} I paid for it, added the key double checked but it's not using it. Does openAI not work anymore?
Please check the description of the video, since making this video the standard API has been changed to openrouter toppyaifree LLM. As you've already topped up an openai account you may as well change the langauge model to the openai LLM. The default API is in the config.ini under language model.
@@DeadPixelGaming I found it after some searchin, I saw on the mantella nexus update, he changed the default LLM and I found it through that. I have everything working now except the MCM, all I have is skyUI, but I'll figure that piece out. I must have used an outdated/to recent release of something. So everything works, except npcs following and stuff, but worst case I can live with that. Thanks Man!

If you watch my reporter video for Fo4 and compare it to my skyrim videos you'll notice the Fo4 videos are more realistic and that's because I use a local model with xTTS to synthesise the voice and its insanely real / sweary / emotional! As for what Mantella is currently cooking up it's currently a secret but it'll blow your mind... its blown mine

I've not tried it for Skryim but yes it's a lot better. You do however need a 4080S or a 4090. It uses a huge amount of resources.
Alternatively you can use runpod.io. xTTS also runs directly through the mantella launcher so once you start mantella it launches xTTS.
It's good stuff. The difference in voice from xva to xTTS in Fo4 is night and day... it just can't do cotswold or robots well (ironically)
Is it normal for the npc's to take a long time to listen or sometimes not even listen at all? I got it all working but the interactions feel so wonky and slow. Are you experiencing this too and is it just the way it is at this point in time?
You'll get used to casting the spell and timing your questions. Make sure to end all conversations or it can get buggy. And yes it takes a couple seconds, the better the language model the faster the response. I made a video on LLMs have a look on my channel and be sure to subscribe if it's helped!
Reality vs expectations. We all watch a Brainfrog video and want that, truth is just enjoy his videos because his editing makes this seem much smoother than it is. Not to mention his creativity. It's like expectations towards DnD after watching Matt Mercer DM a game.
@TrailerTrashThorne I know brainfrog, he's in my Discord and I in his. He uses xTTS to synthesise not XVA its far far superior but requires a 4080+ or runpod.io. He also uses a brilliant VM, one I used later in Fo4 videos.

No, Po3 should work fine. Although it's been a long time since I've done this! Some things are due to change, including a big change in the install process

Hey, make sure to read the description when installing there's a few extra steps.
For the NSFW stuff you have to change the langauge model, it's a guide I plan on making soon. There are hundreds of LLMs but I'm yet to find a NSFW one that isn't janky.

Hi thank you, im glad you liked the guide. A few things have changed, as mentioned in the description its now free with the current LLM and API. It supports about 12 languages off the top of my head, you can change the langauge in the config.ini. I’m using OpenAI for my model, I realise it’s costing a lot more than expected using the GPT 4 turbo, is there another AI platform that we can use that is free? It’s working out as like a dollar every hour or so
ok guys if you don't want to doube your space this mod will take delete the archives after extracting them. example would be right before 14:12 he extracted them all and kept the archives. the archives are just compressed versions and still contain all the data. that folder now is almost 38gb instead of 18gb.
Why would anyone need to be told to delete the compressed VM's? Once extracted and used the compressed VM's are obviously to be deleted. If someone following this tutorial didn't know that I doubt they'd be able to successfully carry it out this tutorial especially considering the changes made to Mantella since I've made this guide.
@DeadPixelGaming for the most part, the tutorial is done well enough, I'd say a complete novice could easily follow along, and successfully have no issues. Reminiscent of gamer poets in the early days. I guess I had mistaken this as a beginner tutorial and felt the comment was nessisary as such. Don't forget people of all skill levels will watch this. Some just getting into modding, and think it's all magic.

Mantella is similar to UEVR in that it changes files whilst they are in use. Some anti-virus suites see that as a threat. You'd need to set an exemption for Mantella.
What about the CK64 files? U never used them..

You don't need them, hence why I didn't use them.
You just need facewrapper from that page, the download which is below the CK64 file. It helps LipnFuz to shape conversation animations.

So a lot has changed since this tutorial, I will be making a new one once they have their next update.
If you read the description you'll see it's now free, it uses Toppyaifree which is openrouter as standard.
You can also use a local model using xTTS the guide is on the github but it needs either an RTX4080s/4090 it takes a lot of resources.
An alternative to running your LLM locally is by using Runpod.io but you've got to pay for that.
Don't forget to subscribe, the new tutorial will be up as I said when their next major update comes.

No not in the slightest. Toppy is good because its free. I use noromaidneversleep. Its uncensored and tends to lean towards swearing. I know Brainfrog, he uses that model too.

Can't say I've come across this issue, are you sure they aren't all the prerequisites you needed already such as SKSEVR etc? If not check in the Mantella discord they are brilliant

@unnateural I made this tutorial when it was in its infancy without support from the devs. I had to research everything. A lot has changed since I made this guide, the config.ini especially.
I'm not in any rush to make an updated version of this tutorial because it pretty much gets you there, and it was a long ass project.
If you see my Fo4 guide its a lot more coherent and that's because I had the opportunity to work directly with the developer of the mod.

Hi there, yes it is possible in non vr. Firstly your unofficial patches need to be the latest ones (in the video for VR it has to be a specific older one) also you need to select the non-vr versions. If you are using SE or AE you need to select the correct Papyrus and library mods.

Just 2x4090s? Peasant spec! Yes you can run it locally using xTTS. You will need a 4080+ for reasonable performance. I ran it locally using xTTS and a 4080S and still preferred to pay runpod to hire a GPU to get extra performance.

Probably make sure that your mod path for skyrimvr is linked correctly to your mod folder. If you’re using vortex it should be the data folder.
When I try to talk to M'aiq the Liar using the Mantella Spell I get a text on the top left screen that says: "NPC not added. Please try again after your next response"

So what if you choose the non vr file but get a VR in the future. How do I choose the Vr file after I already chose the non vr file
You're playing two separate games. Skyrim VR is not Skyrim. You would follow the guide as normal but with a second mantella install (same xva install). Your config would point to the vr game and the current xva.

Sure, I don't see why not. Ive not tried it. I did this in Vortex as its easier to use and explain for people new to modding.
Followed everything correctly, I assume. But I'm having an issue with Mantella, the EXE closes on its own after starting up and "waiting for player to select NPC" and when I go to start it back up it's deleted from my PC...
Looks like it may be antivirus putting it into quarantine but nothing shows up in windows firewall or BitDefender. Flabbergasted.
That's very odd windows defender has never given me any issues. If it's your virus defence you'll need to set an exception in your virus defence app. You can set a folder which your anti virus software leaves alone.
@@DeadPixelGaming Thanks. I was able to figure it out. While I had everything else running I kept missing the bitdefender notification. I solved it by running mantella without anything else running until bitdefender attempted quarantine and then stopped that process. Hasn't happened again. Cheers!

It now comes loaded with an openrouter LLM so just use openrouter for the key.
Read the config.ini it literally tells you what to enter.

I would suggest anniversary as it's got everything however SE would work too. Just be sure to use SE on Nexus and Voetez and be sure to use the non-vr versions of the apps. For example. SKSE (for your version) library mod not library VR. All your Papyrus mods too.

1- Mantella cmd says can no find folder of game it is so funny because it is there
2- in game mods not getting activated I see still default scenes
3- I see spells in game but when I try to use it it says "make sure you downloaded correct one" I did I am sure 100%

You're kidding right? I use noromaidneversleep which is one of the most expensive LLMs and in hours of playing I don't get near to 50c... it comes loaded with a free LLM from openrouter. You can literally do this for free.
Can I install it with mod organizer?
Yep, I've installed this along with a wabbajack mod list. Start with a clean install, install the modlist then follow the mantella guide. Please note that the config has changed If you want a more up to date video check out my Fo4 mantella guides config section it's the same process more or less.
having an issue with mine for non vr where the loader shortcut says it cannot find skyrimse.exe
Reinstall skse and make sure its in the folder where your skyrim exe is. Make sure its the right skse.

Please check with the mantella discord they should be able to help you. NPC not found could be a host of issues.

The language model it comes with now is a free one (topyaifree). You need to make your secret key from Openrouter.ai (but don't have to top up or pay anything). This software is changing rapidly. I will be making an updated guide when the new update comes.

Don't touch xtts, it's a local synthesiser alternative to XVA. Can you go on my Discord I can show you the paths required in your config.

Second, i'm stuck at the mantella file...my nord vpn was cool downloading everything else prior. But there's apparently an exe file on there that doesn't that's scanned as malware. Is it just for redundancies to GPT? Why would there be malware?

I can assure you there's no malware, your VPN might not like working with GPT as its server based? Be sure to read the description there are a few extra steps I missed.

What? The secret key stays in the mantella folder. The key is gained from the open.ai website. All mods should be downloaded via the "vortex download" button which as I said at the beginning of the video is how most of the files will be downloaded.
The mantella spell gets dropped into vortex or installed directly from nexus using the vortex install feature.
The mantella software is kept separately. It has nothing to do with vortex and is where you will run mantella in the background from when skyrim is open

The vr version with other mods is the best way to experience it.
I'll have a new tutorial out I'm just waiting the new version which the devs are working on. After they've implemented HTTP it should be a much easier install.

No dude you don't. Read the description. A lot has changed. Use openrouter not openai for the secret key and the LLM is free (don't change it, it's called toppyaifree) so don't top it up with any money. (Even though the old way used around $0.05 an hour.

@1998natan oh man I can't speak for any other modpacks / wabajack. I know they can cause conflictions. Do you have all your voice packs installed, did you see the full list? Sounds to me like it's the XVA side of things, did you install lip and fuz?

You can use open.ai, openrouter, kobold. All sorts. Not sure about the one you mentioned however.

It's not I'm afraid, however you can use wingmanAI from shipbit. However it wouldn't make NPCs talk to you It's more like an AI you can talk to and give a purpose
