Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights, The Orville) joins us this week to discuss her experience in this industry - evolving from wanting to escape from Toledo to now wanting to avoid the incestuous nature of comparison within Los Angeles.
Adrianne remembers her first big break on Smallville and why it was uncomfortable shooting a couple scenes in particular on the hit show.
We also get into her love for being on one of the top 10 series of all time - Friday Night Lights, how she’s learned to find normal after being diagnosed with Celiac disease, and why The Orville became such a problem to film.

ADRIANNE PALICKI: Exposed on Smallville, Finding Normal with Celiac Disease & Defending Friday Night Lights #insideofyou #adriannepalicki #smallville #fridaynightlights - Развлечения
she was pretty awesome in the Orville
This was my favorite role for her. I hope it comes back but it is likely over. Unfortunately.
Yes. She was a very strong female character. Not put there to check a box off. I like strange new worlds, but Romijn doesnt fit the role at all.
She was pretty awesome in everything!
Adrianne is a legend for her role as Bobbi Morse in Agents of Shield. Anyone into marvel or superhero shows/movies should check out that show if they haven’t because it’s the best
I am still sad that the spin off Most Wanted didn't get picked up. I absolutely loved Adrianne and Nick Blood's chemistry in shield
@@Reece_Hart I would throw money at Marvel to release the Pilot at the very least. They shot pilots for Most Wanted and New Warriors, but Most Wanted got canned so ABC could spend more money on Inhumans and New Warriors got canned because "some unnamed executive" (*cough* Perlmutter *cough*) hated that it was "too gay". I would love to see both pilots be released.
Season 4 of Agents of Shield is one of the best seasons of comic book/superhero television ever
“Toledo is a great place to be from. It’s also a great place to leave.” 😂😂
It’s sad to hear we probably won’t get a fourth season of The Orville. I really hope we do. The show is amazing, I love it.
eh she might just not be involved seth mcfarlane has talked about it, and he's been in talks with disney about it apparently
I don't think the cast would know anything any sooner than a decision having been made and writing being at least in progress. Given that there's been months of strikes, there wouldn't have been much movement happening at the time this was recorded (at which point I believe the actors strike was still ongoing, hence why they kept trying to avoid mentioning shows by name).
There might still be a chance, but the money part of it might be an issue.
Hopefully Disney doesn't take the stance of "well, we've got the Doctor Who distribution deal, so what do we need The Orville for?". Having both of those sci-fi adventure dramedies on the same platform internationally (along with all the Star Wars stuff) would probably not be a bad thing, but from a certain point of view, it could be seen as redundant.
No mention of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? One of my favorite series of all-time. Also loved hearing from another fellow Celiac as well. I wasn't diagnosed until I was in my 40s; been GF for about 12 years now. AND - AQUAMAN PILOT! With Justin Hartley.
I've always liked her in everything I've seen her in. Smallville, Supernatural, and I bet she would've been wonderful in Wonder Woman (pun intended) if it had made it to series.
Was everyone in love with Tyra?
I agree and you should also watch The Orville she's amazing there as well (don't judge her character by the 1st episode).
@@purpledarklighter I forgot all about the Orville. It's sad to hear it caused a lot of problems for the actors on the show since they only filmed like 35 episodes in six years. They're locked into contracts that probably won't receive raises until a potential 5th season if ever, since it sounds like it may never come back.
Don’t forget she also played the assassin, Ms. Perkins, in the movie’John Wick’. Great role for her.
@@inquisitiveone3579 I liked her in Agents Of Shield.
Love the Orville. Didn't realize it was so hard to make. Such an amazing show and cast. It really scratches my Star Trek's itch.
i have had a crush on her since the first time i saw her on Friday Night Lights. and she seems so real its refreshing.
this episode really bummed me out. I hated hearing how sucky "the process" of The Orville was. Definitely made it seem like there wont be a season 4. And that is a damn shame. Season 3 was on par with ST TNG (and thats saying A LOT).
Also had no idea she has celiac. As I do too, I found that part of the interview very interesting.
Ditto. It's so disheartening to hear, especially of a show that in front of the camera celebrates equality and morals and justice. Of course, plenty of Star Treks have had less than great right up to truly hostile working conditions, but I was I suppose naively hopeful that things had improved in the industry in general. Feels like the only progress that's really been made is now it's illegal to starve a dog then jab it with a stick to get a reaction, which is obviously good but not the leaps and bounds we're after...
Also my best friend has coeliac (British spelling I presume, not a PA attempt to correct you 😅) and no-one ever believes her (a colleague even once switched out her gluten free snacks to "test" her, and then said "you didn't die so aren't really allergic") despite it being a well known condition, so I was super pleased on her behalf (and now yours!) that someone in the public eye was doing some sharing!
I think Orville scriptwriting process was one thing. However a majority of the show being developed during COVID probably didn't help as well.
We need more of The Orville!!! ❤❤
She’s one of those actresses I always love when I see her in something, and she seems very down to earth and a good sense of humor
She's incredible in The Orville. So sad that it seems like the show is over.
What noooooo ;_;
Where did you hear that?
@@DannyCosmos Cast options ran out,no contracts. They sound sour about the operation of it too.
@@shaunduquette5992 😭
Noooooo, we love The Orville!!
Love her in everything she does! Great podcast
I liked Adrianne on Smallville and Agents of SHIELD, but I never saw Friday Night Lights or any of her other work. Still, she was very sweet; thanks for interviewing her.
my first experience of Kyle Chandler is from "Early Edition" I LOVED that show lol
Peter Berg was the director?
I worked with him years ago during his acting days. He's a great director but he was not easy to work with in front of the camera. I'm glad you had a good experience.
Didn’t get enough of her on Smallville for one episode. Fell in love with her as an actress on FNL!
Love how she talks about Celiac. Cool to know an actor who also has it.
Actresses Sarah brown and Jennifer Esposito both have celiac disease and talked about it
Deborah Ann Wohl and Elizabeth Hasselbeck as well
That sexy librarian look is hot😅
It’s so validating to hear others talk about their food allergies, as mine were dismissed for YEARS. I’m allergic to wheat and dairy and felt like garbage for a very long time.
My father has Celiac's. I've seen what it does to him when he accidentally eats the wrong thing.
Dairy, Beef, Peanut, Wheat, Egg - It’s not fun.
That’s life not a food allergy. 😂😂😂😂
@@robhunterart oh ok. Thanks for clearing that up. My body and my doctors disagree.
@@penguinvsminja Maybe HE has a food allergy and doesn't realize it. I would imagine there's a lot of things every person doesn't know about themself. I was trying to figure people out psychologically, and wow, there's some stuff. There's some extreme stuff. Sorry about the food allergy, but glad you got it figured out.
Awesome interview!
Absolutely love your podcasts (both this and talkville!) Really cheers me up after a long and boring day at work. Your interviews have really helped me this past month or so - thank you! X
Adrianne is so down to earth! She’s great!
I love Michael's t-shirt. Going to have to get one of those! Would love to see more Orville episodes as well. That show got stronger with every season.
Loved the interview! It felt a bit short though. Should've invited her for when her Smallville episode comes up in Talk Ville. Also, at the beginning, did Ryan hinted at a Terminator actor coming to the pod? Maybe Linda Hamilton or Ed Furlong? I doubt it could be Arnie but who knows!
Adrianne's awesome! It's a shame we never got the Marvel's Most Wanted series she and Nick Blood were supposed to be in, they were great on Agents of SHIELD. From what Jeph Loeb has said, it sounds like the pilot was fantastic.
She is such a wonderful actor and strikingly beautiful. I could not believe that she shopped at my HEB grocery store on SoCo.
Michael thank you. I love Adrianne since The Orville and Agents of SHILD !
Having done a one day show in a Toledo library last month, I can confirm Adrianne's feelings about Toledo. I was only there for an afternoon and regret my decision to go. Great library though.
I'm watching The Orville for the first time now and I didn't know it only lasted 3 seasons, I thought it lasted much longer. But that makes sense if there was so much time between each episode/season.
There was an almost 4 year wait between season 2 and season 3. Many of us thought it was cancelled.
Glad she spoke about Orville. Such a great show and I feel we've been left in limbo since the end of the 3rd season. I hope it comes back and they get more funds, so the actors can get a regular paycheque.
That was a nice Supergirl tease. Having Adrian come in as Kara. Especially with her look being so close to the Supergirl reintroduction being “naked” and all. Just like the comics.
Fellow Hoosier here, I definitely get that feeling of "Well, I guess this is where it's all going to happen". Love the podcasts, thanks for letting us get to know our favorite actors!
Adrianne Palicki was a very awesome guest.
I first saw her as Judy Robinson in a Lost in Space pilot.
She was also on Criminal Minds, one of my favorite episodes The Thirteenth Step
She looks like a blast to hang out with! Always loved her in everything she does.
Adrianne has a very interesting attitude towards life and I enjoy how transparent she is with Rosey. i related hearing about her divorce. Its a sad thing but people do mature up after those situations, as I have. Great episode !
A fan here. Tough luck on her in some of her shows and pilots
This & Talkville and superbloom are the ONLY podcasts to listen to lol
Born and raised in Indiana as well. I left for work, but ironically, I can't wait to get back.
As someone who was born/raised in Toledo, OH, the next time I hear that "Toledo accent" in the city will be the first time 😂
I've been a fan since seeing her pop up in Smallville then Supernatural, and became a fun thing to hear we graduated from the same high school. Silly little thing but cool anyways. Great interview, fun people!
I lived there for a year and went to highscool with Eric Kripke from Superbatural. Not that I remeber him at all. Lol
I'm gonna watch the Orville now. That's kind of the point of going on these shows is to inspire, oh Friday Night Lights is available to. That's where everyone (on the show) was able to move up a notch or 3.
Outside of looks and acting talent, it's always awesome when you see gorgeous actresses that have substance, depth, and are cool AF. 😎
Shes on of those actors and actresses that we need more of... I feel the same about Brett Dalton and Justin Hartley and Erica Durance and Robbie Amell and the cast of Legends of Tomorrow, especially Brandon Roth.
so love your podcast @michael Rosenbaum, @inside of you podcast, love all the guests that come on always so interesting the interviews. x
Such a short episode with a great guest. Love Adrianne, hope she comes back soon.
If she's on this Podcast and you take a look to which episode TalkVille is close to, it's pretty obvious that she'll be in there for Season 3 Finale)
0:21 kind of stoked out myself after all these years instantly recognizing that from Terminator…lol
I would love to see Allison Mack as a guest .
did the agents of shield section get cut?
34:16 - Wonder Woman Pilot Discussion!!
When does she start talking about her experience on The Orville?
She was amazing in Agents of Shield as well.
She is great in anything i have seen her in.
Adrienne moved me a lot about her disease ,her courage to face it, another beautiful human discovery !! 👌💞💙💖
Adrianne*
She was great as Wonder Woman but that pilot was just terrible. But her turn as a Assassin in John Wick and the fight with Keanu Reeves in the hotel at The Continental was amazing.
I only ever watched FNL because a friend talked me into it. Then I found out the Coach and I share the same name 😅. Yeah got hooked after that
Big fan of hers. She is great in everything and I feel like she should be in more things. I sort of feel like she's been at least a bit unlucky in her career. She's awesome in Friday Night Lights, but her character gets written out of it. She's awesome again in Agents of Shield, is supposed to get a spinoff, but then isn't in either show. She probably would have been great as WW, but we never get to find out. She's amazing in Wick, but that doesn't lead to any huge action roles....why not? I love the Orville and again she's awesome, but the show is never on....wtf? She is an underused talent in Hollywood as far as I'm concerned.
This interview was so enjoyable that time just flew by and it seemed like it was about 10 minutes.
That comes from someone who is only lightly familiar with her work.
Adrianne was Kara before Laura Vandervoort. Curious if she was not available or just off the radar of show runners.
I can’t remember but I think she signed up to Supernatural.
She was sort of a "fake" Kara though, the body of a girl who had recently died and manipulated by the spirt/essence/computer memory of Jor El, if I'm remembering correctly. So it wouldn't track that the real Kara would look like her? That said I think Adrianne would have been a great Super Girl, but Laura Vandervoort was great in the role so it's not like we lost out! 😎👍
Loved Adrianne on Smallville it was a wonderful episode and it’s nice to see she has gone on to do more great work. The conversation between you was interesting, lively and informative, another brilliant week🤩Thank you🤗
I really really want to know what that first movie was
Looking forwards to listening to this one. Adrianne is great in everything she comes out in!
So glad you got her on the podcast!!
Loved her in agents of shield
i used to describe my Mom "She could be hip deep in silver lining she'd be standing there look for the cloud."
She has come a long ways since Smallville. She was lady jaye in gi joe retaliation.
She's probably most known for Friday Night Lights.
I feel like when Michael started doing Inside of You he was a little lost and searching for something. Its amazing to see how ruthlessly gifted he is at having "real' conversations with Hollywood Elite. Dude is really one of my favorite people to watch, mad respect.
Disappointed to hear about The Orville the fans want renewal we binge the show everyday and it has great streaming numbers were like Futurama fans were not gonna give up writing and hastagging and 3 seasons isnt enough.
Very slim chance for such an expensive show (far more expensive than an animated series) that wasn't as successful as people hoped. Streaming services are hemorrhaging money, the House of the Mouse is in a bit of a crisis because the new movies are tanking, the sets probably don't exist anymore and the actors have moved on to other things. Unless they really go for the fully animated Lower-Decks-like route, I don't see any Hollywood executive forking over the necessary cash to produce another season.
I completely forgot she's from my home state!!
Great interview I have watched Orville on repeat so many times. Hope there is a part cut out for the Talkville podcast like *spoiler warning* John Glover's a few weeks ago, for the finale episode in a couple weeks from now.
I’m hoping since her character is in like the next episode.
I must have missed her on Smallville, i remember her on Supernatural as Sam's girlfriend Jessica. Who did she play on Smallville?
She played the first “Kara”, the one who was brainwashed by Jor-El to think she was Kara to get Clark to start his training (I believe it was the season 3 finale, or somewhere around there)
@@gooseman_x OK! Thank you
Texas forever❤
Mullet: Business at the front, party at the back. Respect that hair style!
Yes, Black's BBQ is awesome. Adrienne should drive 30 min down to Lockhart, TX and go eat at the original Black's. Or even go to the new place, Terry Black's BBQ. I grew up in Victoria and would drive the 1 1/2 hrs to go eat at Blacks.
She is so dang beautiful!! What were you thinking Scott Grimes when you divorced her???
Wish you had time to touch on her being in John Wick, didn't recognize her at first in that one. Speaking of Friday Night lights how about getting Taylor Kitsch on podcast?
Awesome Episode 💙🤘
Loved her on Smallville and the Orville she a really awesome and nice lady you can tell that just by speaking to her great guest Michael
What's the story behind not saying Smallville?
Looking forward to watching this. Thank you Michael ❤ Happy Tuesday 💙
Enjoyed this. Great to see Palicki. Enjoyed hearing about The Orville and the other shows and people. Thanks.
Michael!! Why no more "Sh^t Talkin'"??
Did anyone else see her in Criminal Minds? Cuz she was AWESOME in that! 👌🏼❤️
The Salt Lick in Dripping Springs has great beef ribs.
She needs to come back - love how conversational she is
Love this podcast and interview. Adrianne definitely opens up and has so many great stories. She is so positive and upbeat. She definitely has a great career. I look forward to seeing what she does next. Best podcast ever!
Excellent guest and I really can't wait for Krysten Ritter next week. Many thanks.
Ahh she's already been on. Is this her 2nd time. She wasn't on that long ago. 😊
I'm not a TV guy. The only thing I've seen Adrianne Palicki in is the action sequel "G.I.Joe - Retaliation (2013)"
Is it just me or does it look like Michael might have a little crush? I do not blame the guy. She is fabulous.
The fake Kara from season 3 and also as Siren in the Aquaman pilot back in 2006 which had potential for sure.
@@CalebJacobs459 I just said it.
heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy its the guy from warp zone !!!!!!!!!!!!
The Orville is amazing. We need one more season
I've seen her in a handful of projects and she's so talented, but never knew she is from Toledo!!!! I've heard we have accents but I have no idea what is. This was such a wonderful conversation and she is just the best.
I had The Orville on my literal 'Tv Tracking List' as a possible for 2024-25, but thankfully/sadly I can take it off as something to be concerned about. Maybe a soft reboot can happen sometime, but I won't hold out hope on my end.
She was so good in agents of shield
Such a cool and down to earth lady. Glad y’all talked about the seriousness of Celiac disease. I know it will help many. Thanks for all you do and being the best part of my day . 😊❤️🙏.
Orville!!!!
Shame about her not being about The Orville anymore. She was one of my favorite characters.
Does he still do "Shit talkin with [guest]"? Or is that something he stopped doing a while ago? It's been a minute since I listened to one of these.
oh shit she lives in Austin?!?! 👀
