Sweden 2023-09-16: Packrafting Kaitumälven 1/3 (Tjuonajokk - Stuor Kårtje)

First day packrafting the lovely Kaitum river, from the abandoned Tjuonajokk lodge to the mighty Stuor Kårtje rapids. Tjuonajokk was reached after a 2-day, 32 km hike from Nikkaluokta, with a ~30 kg backpack.
This descent is part of a 195 km combined hiking / packrafting expedition through northern Sweden in full autonomy, together with Didier Royakkers.

Nice trip! Are those meltwaters from glaciers ? Did you carry all the food for two days with you ?

The Kaitum river is fed by a couple of large lakes upstream. We actually carried food for 15 days as our trajectory was Abisko - Vistasjohka - Nikkaluokta - Kaitum. See the report linked to in the description for more info on the entire expedition.
