Being a biodynamic grower we use the Maria Thun planting calendar so that is about the rhythms of the moon and also the corresponding constellations. The day also has a rhythm …..in the morning our earth breaths out and after mid day breaths in so like you said when the moon is descending and in a root constellation it’s a great time for transplanting root crops. She re MT has written a results book showing her research on planting by the moon worth reading. As a side note harvesting at the chosen time allows produce to store better like a garlic planted on a root day and picked on a root day stored for 5months till planting out again no sprouting and great bulbs. Happy planting 🙏🏻

And harvesting at a certain time of day as sugars and nutrients move up and down the plants from leaf to roots with this cycle too. Watch the plant timelapse on the next video

The old Farmer’s Almanac, published since 1818, is a Moon cycle planting guide. Of course they don’t mention the astrological aspect of the optimum planting time as being in the water signs, but that’s exactly what’s used. Being a student of Astrology (and a gardener) for over 30 years, I couldn’t help but notice the correlation. Fire signs are perfect for weeding and eliminating pests. Air signs will cause seeds to rot in the soil. Earth signs are perfect for planting root crops.
As an aside, my father is Cuban and told me they used to cut down trees for building during the waning Moon while in a fire sign, since it made the wood resistant to termites. Nature is amazing!
So glad you put out this info David! Love your videos!

Have you noticed a difference? I did a full 12-month experiment and followed when to plant what and also did the opposite with insignificant results.
It certainly doesn't hurt, but I'm unsure if it helps. I just plant when I can now and that works fine too.

Thirty years ago (Georgia, USA) I was planting peas for Fall harvest in my you pick garden. Horace Cannon (old school Almanac farmer) pulled up and inquired about what I was planting. White acre peas said I,,, Horace told me I was wasting my time because they would produce no peas, bad moon said he. Ha! said I to myself as I had been at this for a while myself. I grew the largest, most beautiful pea bushes you have ever seen that season. But, did not harvest enough peas for a meal.
I just wanted to thank you for your non political approach...I wish there was the library of Alexandra (and your insights) available to me then. I get it now. Retired recently and plan to garden until the end. Thank you again. Tom

Fabulous video David, my grandfather used to plant his vegetable garden with the moon. The same as he also used to fish with the moon as well. He was a great fisherman and always had a wonderful vegetable garden. I only hope he is watching down at my gardening adventures all these years later. I am furthering my gardening journey next year I have enrolled in TAFE to do a Horticulture course. I recently finished reading the Permaculture book written by Bill Mollinson, big book took ages to get through. Slowly putting somethings in place in my garden.

Agree. Would like to know what other environmental differences there were. Feel he needs to do this for a couple of cycles to get a better feel for it.
Be good if the environment could be consistent between them except the state of the moon.
Also the tidal argument seems slightly off. Tides have a couple of frequencies, as the earth rotates daily, but also as the moon orbits the earth. The latter results in stronger or weaker tides throughout the month due to Syzygy, the conjunction or opposition of the moon and sun relative to earth.
Maybe what's happening is that plants are able to detect this Syzygy frequency and prefer to grow into a period where this Syzygy is maximized as tides would be higher and more access to favourable water conditions is likely.

    • @nic.h
      @nic.h 7 месяцев назад

Wonder if you could simulate this by placing seedlings on a centrifuge designed to provide a simulation of the increased force.
Also controlling light that the seedlings are exposed to simulate the effect of this cycle.
Suppose this could also be atmospheric pressure differences, as the atmosphere is subject to this same tidal forces and frequencies.

And then it waits for the perfect time (temperature, moisture, moon) to come up? Plants don't perticulary sow at full moon I guess? Or does the plant 'know' when to drop the fruit, seed etc.?

As a gardener, I used moon calenders with great succes. But waning/waxing moon is not as important as acending/decending moon. Know the difference!!
As a sailor I can tell you, that the strongest tides apear at full moon AND new moon.
Why? It's simple when you understand the astronomical principles (not the astrological).
It's physics basically, and the most important factor is gravitation!
Looking at it from this perspective, it all makes sense and is easy to understand!
    🙂❤️

Use a Bio Dynamic Moon planting chart...uses constellation actually in the sky..the real thing...not some other system outer date...cheers

Exactly what I was thinking throughout the video and what I was hoping someone else would pick up on too! Whether the moon is ascending or descending has a much more physical impact on what's happening on Earth than the moon phase. If you're going to do lunar gardening, then I suggest using the biodynamic calendar developed by Maria Thun and now continued by her son.

Well, it all sounds perectly logical to me. Why wouldn't the moon have an influence on a plants growing cycle when it sits between us and the sun to varing degrees during its cycle. I will be giving it a go from now on.
Thank you for all the immense effort you must put in making these beautiful videos, I love playing them to my young grandchildren when they come visit me, we have lots of fun watching them together. Plus, the way the world is going these days they are going to need all of these practical skills just to survive in the not to distant future.

Refine this practice by using the biodynamic calendar for not only planting but pruning, feeding and harvesting each plant for what you wish it to provide. Fruit, leaf, flower or root. I think this has been explained by Rudolph Steiner and his many students.

Thanks! South Asia specially Sri Lanka used to have moon based calendar and growing and harvesting crops. You may think why not Sun? Because moon is the only constant rotation around earth unlike Sun. Suns irregularities are what causing leap year and other irregular georgian calendar. These traditional methods are now lost in time due to invasion and knowledge massacre happened in past. Even I know what fragment I heard from elders in past.

Now what left in those methods are bunch of scammers who says they know how to read horescope and palm reading.

I position trees and plants where they get the sun they need at different times of the year. Watch nature, observe, nature will show you.

Sounds backwards to me. The sun rises and sets quite regularly and the moon waxes and wans on different days from year to year. Some years have a month with two full moons. Known as Blue moons ect. That’s also why The Farmers Almanac is reprinted every year.

Muslims use the moon cycle on the Hijri calendar, full moon is always the night of the 15th of each month ! That means it starts at the dusk of the 14th day and end by the dawn of the 15th.
