- Welcome back! Today I'm sharing what we've been up to over the last 6 weeks renovating our kitchen. We're doing most of it ourselves, and will soon share a completed before and after, styling and organising, and a chat about our inspiration and why we decided to do certain things. Today is showing you the process of the steps we've taken since Christmas to rip out our old units, replaster the ceiling, rewire the plugs/sockets, remove the old flooring, and put in a new design! Hey guys! I know whenever I share renovation or decorating choices it comes with mixed opinions, but I hope you can see the hard work we’ve put in so far and a sneak peek of what the final design is starting to look like! I’ll be back in a few weeks with a more detailed before and after 🥰
So interesting hearing Benji talk and hear his knowledge on things, I know it’s your channel but I’d be so interested to hear his journey to his profession.
Thanks Charlotte! There's not too much of a story - once he left college, he completed his qualifications and has worked for his dad ever since. They work in hospitals fitting MRI, CT & X-ray Scanners etc, and Benji has worked his way to a projector manager recently, but I'll ask if he wants to share more in a future vlog! xx

Hi guys. Ange here. Don’t beat yourselves up. It is hard undertaking a building project whilst working full time. It is your house and you shouldn’t feel pressured by anyone. Good things are always worth waiting for x

What an update! Yous have done such a fab job, I totally agree with you, you have to live somewhere before you actually know how you want it to be. Like you say if you don’t actually use a dining table there is no point having it just sitting there when you can have a lovely sitting area in the kitchen, just think when it’s nicer weather just sat with the doors open will be lovely!

I absolutely love it and hats off to you and Benji for doing the majority of the work yourselves. I love that you are making this space / your home work for you guys - not having a dining area because that’s what you’re “meant” to have. It’s so refreshing seeing people enjoy their home living space rather than treating it like a show home! Looking forward to seeing more renovations xx

It’s so exciting seeing the kitchen come together! It makes so much sense getting rid of the island as it took up so much space in the middle of the room, now everything has a purpose and looks so organised!
I also agree with the plans for the garden, if you don’t enjoy gardening then maintaining a garden is hard! Makes sense to make it low maintenance, then have plants in pots that are easy to look after (and won’t cause problems with unruly roots!)
Amazing update Brogan! I can remember watching the vlogs of you getting ready to move into your first flat and now watching this got me a bit emosh seeing how far you've come! I've loved your channel from day 1 and its always bringing me snippets of joy. The kitchen is looking amazing and the spotlight have made such a difference! the idea of a small log burner in the corner sounds so cozy and something I'm sure your guests will love when they come to visit. Well done Benji for all the hard work... I can't imagine the stresses you've had off camera!

I have been waiting on this update! Brogan, your kitchen is GORG! I love how you spoke to openly about why you made your changes, and the fact you did hold off so long before renovating makes so much sense so you learn to live with things like the island and decide you didn't like it. Great vlog, love looking at the flashback clips with seeing the process from the beginning to where you & Benji are currently at with the kitchen. It's going to look amazing once it's all finished. I've just been recommended this...fascinating, I'm so looking forward to when it's completed, which might be at the end of this video, however "you're taking so long' is an awful thing for anyone to say!!!! You’re absolutely right! You should definitely live in a space for a while, then decide how you want to decorate. But most people do have a preconceived notion of what their ideal space is. Plus, if you’re there for several years, your needs might change so you can pívot and change what needs changing! Do you, girl!🤗

Looks stunning! Can’t wait to see it all finished. We’ve owned our house for 15 years and my kitchen is still stuck in the 80’s from the previous owners. I dream of the day when everything else that needs fixing is done and I have a modern kitchen. Lol!

I can’t explain how excited I’ve been for this video! We’re in the middle of renovating our 1st house and this has made me want to change everything we’ve planned. It looks so beautiful and clean 😍 I can’t wait to see what it looks like once it’s completely finished. Also you’ve done that so fast! Absolutely amazing job on your kitchen so far, I admire both of your confidence to get stuck in and tackle the job yourselves without having lots of trades in, I know it helps that Benji is skilled and clearly very talented and you have great determination and vision, but you should both be incredibly proud of the work you have done. I wish I’d had your confidence to tackle our kitchen ourselves when we bought our house many years ago. It’s looking great and looking forward to seeing the finished product. X
I love it so light and airy, i totally agree a sofa and a comfy area sounds way better that a clumpy dining table that you would rarely use, cannot wait till you are all put back together, Benji is skilled, and well done his dad too sounds like they make a great team, thankyou for the update, bit jealous if I’m honest 😊 xxx

LOVE your new kitchen 😍 We renovated our garden last summer and I would 100% recommend artificial grass if you want a low maintenance garden. It keeps your garden looking lovely all year round with barely any effort. Also, it's dog friendly. Our westie loves it and I'm sure Bonnie would too! xx

You guys have done a great job! It’s looking really nice. When we renovated our kitchen we got rid of the eat in area and extended the kitchen but we now regret not knocking down the wall between kitchen and dining room. Just like you we don’t usually eat at the dining table but like lounging on a sofa. We also have a L shape counter with 4 large stools.

Don’t worry what others think, you do what you want. I totally agree with the once you live with something your view changes, I brought my first house in December 2020. It’s got a small garden which is great and I thought I’d be happy to maintain it, realistically I don’t have time, I’m not a gardener so I’m going to change it to patio!

This has made me so excited to get our kitchen done! We moved into our house in December and thought we could live with it (green worktops and an oven that doesn’t work that well) but we bit the bullet and bought a kitchen while the offers were on in January and it’s due to be fitted in May! I know it’ll 100% be worth the wait. Can’t wait to see yours finished and the rest of your renovations :)

It looks fab. 🥰 My partner and I have just decided to take the plunge and get a new kitchen (just moved into our home last August but we’ve been desperate to get it sorted!) Very nervous about making decisions! We’ve chosen our units but that’s about it 😂 It’s very reassuring to see you go through such a huge renovation and be so calm about it - makes me feel a bit more at ease to get into it. Can’t wait to see the finished room! X

Wow Benji is doing such a great job. How fortunate he is so handy 😀 I think it's a wonderful idea to turn where your dining table was into a seating area. You can have a coffee table and when you entertain guests that can rest their tea and plates there. Good call deciding to remove the deck and having a lower patio to provide more privacy. I'm not into gardening either. You can do some potted trees and plants to soften the area up and they are super low maintenance and hard to kill 🤣🤣 I can't wait to see the finished product but so far I think everything looks amazing 😀👏👏

We did our garden first but that’s coz only access is through the house. We’ve gone low maintenance with Indian sandstone patio that looks like rainbows when it rains . Fake lawn and decking with raised beds for some planting but like you we are not real gardeners so got rid of two dying trees and a dying hedge and put in new fence. We had friends of ours do the gardens and we love it. Can’t wait for spring/summer to use it more. Just waiting for summerhouse I want to be available to buy then we can also put up the lazy spa which will go behind the summerhouse for more privacy x it’s a lovely modern space. Worth all the just over £12,000 it cost us to get it done and level and safe x can’t wait to see your garden plans and u are right to do what is best to suit your needs when doing up your home xx

It is starting to look lovely. We have the same oak grey carcasses from Howdens, and the same oven! We got Chelford grey and quartz worktops. We love the knobs on the oven too 😂 It is so true about the floors, we got a product similar to Kardean but it is so easy to clean. And we have a lower seated area and display cabinets in our dining area, we moved the dining table , which we only use when we have guests, into our very long front room. As you say, have it how you live!

It looks amazing! I've just shown it to my other half for inspiration, thanks for documenting the process. I'd love to know from Benji some practical tips like how you shaped the worktop on the bar and kept the edging on it, and how to put sockets in a splash back without cracking it! Can't wait to see the next videos xx

Love seeing the progress!! I think it's going SO fast!! I didn't have a kitchen ceiling for 6 mths!! 🤣 I think our kitchen took years in the end to be totally done... but we did it bit by bit. When you do the work yourself, it takes time. Thanks for sharing!
