    This is what i was expecting from season 1. You can have a crazy story, go nuts with time travel and everything but can we also have more of this. It doesn't all have to be explosions, drama and people getting killed left and right like in every other tv show out there. It can be story and character driven just like TNG was. Please and thank you.

    • @dan_hitchman007
      @dan_hitchman007 2 года назад +9

      You will get few character driven scenes with a showrunner like Kurtzman. He's a hack like Braga was in the 90's with Trek or anything else he touches.

    • @billvolk4236
      @billvolk4236 2 года назад +7

      It's so serialized now, the plot advances at a crawl. A whole season covers only as much story as one old two-parter from TNG. In theory they have time for so many more character moments like this one, but they don't use that time wisely. Instead they stuff it full of filler and drawn-out mystery box bullshit.

      Cant you recognise Lame people "Going through the Motions", from the successful, genuine article ? This entire production is by people so desperately afraid of their own ideology, they will support Child Torture just to avoid its rabid, vindictive, passive aggressive nature, solely in order to keep on making money. And never connect (or purposely ignore) the two or realise just saying NO, in the first place, would have insured the positions they are currently desperate to retain, in such a volatile Market, THEY CREATED where you can be rendered unemployable by a angry and frustrated Mob of Morons, who want to lash out at everyone else, for their own intellectual impotence.

    • @matthew3114

      @@billvolk4236 Yes true. I will say I do miss the old stye TNG where each episode was a stand alone story or maybe a two part etc. But now every show has to have a story that runs through the entire series it's annoying. That's one thing i really loved about TNG was because the episodes were stand alone it felt each week they were going somewhere new and actually exploring, it was great. That is one of the main reasons i love the Orville so much.

    • @billvolk4236
      @billvolk4236 2 года назад +3

      @@scandalasdog Another really important thing to remember: TNG took a long time to find its voice. All of season 1 and most of season 2 was awful. If TNG had been serialized like Discovery and Picard, telling only one story a year, it would never have had the time to experiment and get good.

    Going from Sir Patrick's formal invitation to Whoopie on The View to this back-to-back is an immense wave of emotions. The tearful surprise followed by her slaying this scene about as hard as a reunion scene could possibly be, it makes me glad this show exists just for this moment.
    It's like the final fight of Kenobi. I could care less if the rest of the show is good in retrospect, it was worth it for one last duel and dialogue.

      Ship of Theseus is a really complex matter. It's the exact same brain geometry, the same neural patterns, the same memories, the same personality. Who's to say, that is not Picard? If everyone in the story, treats him as Picard, up to and including the people THAT MADE THE BODY AND BRAIN, say it's Picard, who are you to say it isn't him? They would know better than you, surely? Q, an actual god, says it is him. Even brings up that Dukat is the one that caused him to have a synthetic body in the next mirror-world episode.
      Surely the people that made the synthetic body and brain, and a literal GOD that can change ENTIRE UNIVERSE with the snap of a finger (and does), would know whether that IS Picard, or a robot pretending. What a fabulous scene with 2 great actors neither trying to outdo the other. There is a special bond between them both on and off screen. As for Whoppi she just wanted to be in Star Trek, even if all it was just to sweep the set. Roddenberry made the right decision all those years ago to give her a significant role. Even then she never tried to outshine anyone.

    I was wondering how they were going to explain Whoopi's age. Apparently the El-Alurians don't just age slowly, they can actively control their aging, at least on the outside. Guinen looks older because she wants to, because she feels like looking older

    • @creativewriter3887
      @creativewriter3887 2 года назад

      Yes.. she's the Anti-Q.. and she always in some sense matched Q's game move for move. I think of her as Picard's guide.. the Blue Fairy to Picard's Pinochhio. I say that with intent... As the blue fairy made him a boy through his defeating the fear/enemy and saving others.. Guinan is giving PIcard the means to cut Q's strings despite what motives he may have --- selfish or quasi-altruistic.

    I remember in 1986 or 7 I heard of this 'new' Star Trek coming out and there would be no Kirk, Bones, Spock or Scotty etc. I briefly thought 'never work, you gotta have the original cast'. I am so happy to have been wrong. These guys, Guinan included, knocked it out of the park! Awesome show. Star Trek Picard provided us with the long awaited TNG finale Nemesis did not. Nemesis was a great film, needs a Director's Edition, mind you. But never felt like the great send off film Kirk & co got with Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country.

    With all the attention on "getting the band back together" in Season 3, I think the story of Picard needing to learn how to love in Season 2 (even if unevenly scripted) is the best story of them all. Seeing his childhood trauma helped me (who also had a very traumatic childhood) a lot. And while Season 3 acknowledged he and Beverly had had a child, that was more about a father's love for his son. I really wish there had been more closure (an eleventh episode perhaps) to Season 2.

      I think the explanation is very simple. Picard feels guilty for Jack Crusher's death and guilty for being in love with Beverly even before Jack died (thus betraying a close friend, even though he never acted on his feelings). He's never gotten over that guilt, perhaps because deep inside he questions whether his feelings for Beverly affected his decision making on the mission where Jack died.
