8:26 Sometimes you have to burn down the old in order for the new to rise up out of the ashes and be greater than ever.
12:00 Great Fire
Sounds like your citizens took the advice too literally.
Hidole555 lmao😂😂
He keeps saying "trust me" like the guy is going to rip back control of the save mid-video.
he's loosing it :) love it
LOL
Maybe Hannibal went back in time and he's making him unfuck it.
*or maybe Legend went back in time and was Hannibal*
Heinrich Dethahal if legend went back in time and became Hannibal then Hannibal wouldn’t have lost the Battle of Zama
@@tsarchasm1499 How, by camping in the corner and running around with hanibal on his horse until romans ran out of arrows? :D :D
Mance Raider - I have 100,000 men assaulting the wall and you only have 100 so surrender
Legend- you need more men
He needs way more
Legend- huh that almost evens up the odds.... For you....
"Oh Legend why you disband all your armies?"
"Yea, yea, watch the whole video."
Love these series!
@maciejl20 like a fucking HBO show
Anyone who's seen the WRE campaign in Attila would get it. Plus I've seen Legend work on a SYDC of a Western Roman Empire in exile in Africa so I could guess what he was going to do.
"I don't usually see women." - Legend of Total War 2018
Same
If Legend was in Constantinople in 1453, its the Ottomans that would fall next morning.
Nah pfft Nah
He probably would have retired in 1454 with the words "Thoroughly unfucked"
And the Ottomans would never recover
@@1000Hejsan They would be never exist again, because legend let no survivors
Nah, he'd wipe out the Ottoman stacks, then reclaim some lost territories and mend the Schism to remove the Roman Empire's diplomatic penalties with the western world. Then he'd retire saying "I think it's in a good place, if I go any further I'll just win the game for them." as hundreds of thousands of heartbroken Greeks beg him to stay.
As I've said before, if you step back and think about it, building redundant barracks everywhere makes sense for the ai. They don't have to worry about public order or money, so the other buildings are not necessary. However, barracks are the only way to increase the size of your garrison, giving them a better chance to win in autoresolve. It's a product of bad game design but it makes logical sense.
EDIT: This may also explain why the AI will randomly start taking attrition everywhere since the Ancestral Update. Their food buff may have been altered without changing any of their build priority, causing them to run into a food deficit with all their redundant barracks.
I build barracks in the border regions, too. With one level 4 Roman barracks, you can easily win a siege against almost anything. And I usually have so much food and money by that point that it is pointless to build more economic buildings anyway, except Horreums for the increased replenishment on the frontier. With 3-4 Horreums, your armies go from red to full health in 2 turns, it´s awesome.
Jirka Zalabák so on what difficulty level are you playing on if i may ask?
ChaosEIC Hard/Very Hard, depending what I feel like. The Romans are usually a breeze even on Legendary, with all their OP infantry. Level 4 Roman Barracks give you 6 units, including 1 Praetorian Guard. With that, you can easily hold the city centre. Even if you don´t manage to win, you bleed the enemy so hard that they will be unable to take the next settlement.
i am just curious because i always play on legendary difficulty and i never build more than one barrack but i save the frontier with 1 or 2 legions...but to be honest i have no clue what is more efficient i never even thought about building barracks in my frontier settlements
but usually i just steamroll my opponents with rome in rome2 so i dont really have anyone attacking me
Also if they lose a settlement with a barracks they have back-ups.
1:54:30 "what did you do to my vassals"?
............
*THEY DIED*
i'm dead
Legend is to Total War games what Bob Ross is to painting. You're going to use *brown and ochre* to paint a sky? Are you insane? You want to win the war by *disbanding all armies* ? Now he has really lost it. And then in the end it all does come together somehow :)
Legend standing in front of the Carthagian Senate: "Now, this is gonna be a doozy, but listen. We gotta disband everything we got, and break down everything we own."
And the senators and nobles approves somehow
When you badly build your cities ... Thats what happen!!
That explains the secession in Spain.
It makes total sense from a strategic perspective. Don't fight battles that don't need to be fought. The Romans understood this when they abandoned Britannia. The province was too far away and too expensive to maintain so they consolidated their forces on the mainland and cut the province from the imperial yoke
Sol Invictus That's not true, they actually left Britannia for multiple reasons, money was not one. They left mostly due to the fact they believed it to be godless, more so in modern day Scotland, Rome was also struggling to fend back the Germanic hordes on the eastern front, which made them recall their forces to defend Rome. Also, the Romans really didn't know that at all, as much as they were smart in terms of military, they fought a few battles which didn't need to be fought, in fact Julia Caesar was a culprit of this when he sieged a settlement then got sieged himself, even with knowledge that a reinforcing army was on the way, he could've easily retreated and come back later with a much larger army, but decided not to, sure he won, but at the cost of how many men? It was idiotic, and if it didn't work in his favour I can 100% say he wouldn't be mentioned anywhere near as much as he is nowadays.
That is what I meant by maintenance. It means more than money. Troops needed elsewhere and the lack of a pure Roman populace contributed to Britannia being abandoned
^this i think it was stilicho who withdrew the last roman legion from britain to fend off the germanic tribes
Sol Invixtus is right guys, all the things you list is a problem with money and resources management. Maybe not the fact that they called the land godless but at the same time you donät call land that brings a lot of money to you for godless, you conquer that kind of land.
@@thesmitingsmiter9857 That can be said for just about anyone in history. If it didnt work, they wouldnt be mentioned, barrinf few exceptions and those exceptions are mostly known for bravery.
The city Legend started the video with, "Arse", perfectly described the situation LMAO
You showed sense in the beginning.. when under pressure it is better to withdraw & consolidate you home rather than trying to hold on to distant regions which give u little benefit.. I have learnt a lot from watching your TWR2 campaigns (like using ur whole ammo before melee fighting begins) nd it has increased my enjoyment out of campaigns.. great going for u..
I only have one request.. please continue playing TWR2 (if only once in a while like 1 episode per week or something like that).. it will be sad to see a player like you to leave TWR2 entirely.. but still a great Total War player..
At least a historical title
Ancient Empires for Attila is just as good if not better. Give that a try :)
*ABSOLUTE MADLAD*
Legend is literally Hannibal 2:35 “Absolute Madman”
what about 8:28? HE'S A NAZI :D 1:54:35 cruel satisfaction in his voice. Very mr. Lecter.
Lol.. don't give Nazis a leg up by comparing those retards to Legend.. those idiots actually lost whole of their conquered territories due to stupidity..
@@rock081189 To be fair they were fighting literally everyone.
@@mackmasters325 they stupidly went nd engaged Russia when they were ahead of everyone else & they already had a non-aggression pact with Russia.. Also Hitler decided that it was more important to target civilian population of Britain rather than taking out their military assets when Luftwaffe had an upper hand against RAF.. His army got bogged down in Russia nd suffered heavy casualties while his air force were slowly taken care of by numerically inferior RAF.. these 2 things ensured their defeat as they stretched the Germans very thin.. I think he was as stupid as he was a genocidal maniac.. he basically committed the same mistake as Napoleon had 100 years earlier (by engaging Russia)
@@mackmasters325 and that was their mistake no.1.. especially engaging Soviet Union without first finishing off the European powers..
No, I understand what you are doing legend and it is smart not dumb. -Every Total War player who understands the game
"you're mad legend". Remembers your western roman empire campaign where you burnt down half the empire and fell back. "oh yeh probs right move"
This tactic works surprisingly well for the Ottomans in empire total war. Just give your balkan territories to a native american nation and you've got yourself a buffer zone between you and your greatest enemy. In the mean time focus on your economy and military and expand against Georgia, Persia and if you wish the Mughals.
Pulling back and consolidating your forces has been a reliable strategy for thousands of years. The key to expansion is knowing what you need to keep and what you can let go to prevent overreaching.
Sometimes you have to burn down the old, in order for the new to *RISE UP OUT OF THE ASHES AND BE GREATER THAN EVER* - LegendofTotalWar (2018)
edit: 8:24 If legend turns out to be in some way related to hannibal barca, i honestly would not be surprised at all.
lol.. legend has still to meet his Scipio..
Whether the case, he for sure would find a linage back to Genghis Khan.
Carthage in a 3 way civil war between novaCarthago, separatists, and carthage? Sign me up
Don't forget the Slave rebellions
There are so many funny things to quote from the commentary, I love this man. A Caesar, Hannibal and Belisarius of our age
I honestly cannot believe how shallow they made this game. I still love it and I play it to this day quite frequently. But especially with the vassals and clients state thing, it's so shallow and archaic like they just threw it in as an afterthought just to say it was there.
The fact that client states can declare war on each other, that you have absolutely zero control over them is just mind-boggling. They should have made it a legitimate feature That allows you to have more direct control over them when you really need it So you can essentially have an AI wingman in the campaign after you've done the proper work of conquering or building a proper relationship with them.
I always hated how it takes an eternity and a half to replenish navies. I mean... does it really take 10 years to repair the hull of a wooden ship?
trees don't grow in a year dude. they take reasonable time. 80 years for a decent tree length and width. and lumber was expensive at that time.
Yet somehow you can build a half dozen new ships for cheap in one turn...
well...antique style production line and labour division? :D
just merge the damaged ones and recruit new ones. ez
I know how to deal with it, I just think the logic is stupid
Saw what you were doing from the beginning and 100% approved. Loved how you were just like 'Just trust me.' the whole time
1:30:02 Lmao that really aged perfectly. Legend going out of his way to try and help them better their game for years and they just don't care and act like dicks. We've really come full circle.
I find Carthage to be not necessarily the most difficult but def. the most annoying because how spread out you start off. Very refreshing to see this gameplay and the centralization in order to make it smoother.
The burning down all cities start reminded me of playing Western Roman Empire... You don't have to auto-resolve all the time. 15-ish cheapest elephants will destroy *any* army with minimal casualty. I even defeated 2 to 3 full stacks with 15 elephants. They are available in the next turn. Rome, notwithstanding all her military might, was thus destroyed swiftly. Because 15 elephants charge into all is so cheap, you can play it with 30* speed.
Remember people NO MORE CLIENT STATES.
lol.. actually the client states don't work. It's the satraps you want with a reliable or loyal character trait.. satrap join each of ur wars, cannot do any agreements with other factions except trade & thus end up having 300+ relation by the end of the campaign.. (I created Volsci as satrapy of Rome in Rise of Republic with all diplomacy Mod & they were a great help even though they hate rome in the beginning but are loyal.. at legendary setting)
satraps is bad
)if you keep them you risk war with them after the end turn(i got 6 satraps declare war on me in selucid campaing on legendary)
@@T5p6 that's different. They are supposed to since they hate the selucids
i had +150 with every one of them and all of them declare war at the same time.
client states can just break the agreement and i can chose what war to call them if needed
i think both option unreliable
i prefer to cancel agreements and just kill them early as possible
@@T5p6 bro its scripted in the selucid campaign
I wonder if there is a challenge Legend cannot get up with and resolve it
Siodog Europa Barbarorum Epirus This is Total War campaign
How about the cuman campaign that he solved with that annoying realism mod. Probably not possible to solve.
He's like an unholy hybrid between Mac Gyver and Sun Tsu.
"Ok, I have a piece of string, half a block of cheese a rusty nail and two gold coins"
*one turn later he comes back with an army*
Easy. Rome: Total War, any kingdom. You only have one town, no units, and you are besieged. Gg no re.
Legend : hold my beer.
"See, I'm not an unresonable bigot. ...I like to consider myself a reasonable bigot". x)
Your vassals have been properly integrated into the empire.
Every time diplomacy comes up I can hear chaos calls for you
I think by now, the abandon strategy is not really surprising any more :D
Legend what mouse you have been using? I really like the click sound from it.
I got Rome total war and I cant stop playing
well you're watching a LoTW video, I suppose you had to stop playing for that.
Easy play and watching is the name of the game.
i still can't believe there are still people who don't trust Legend to do things right. Maybe he's just saying that to call them out at the beginning of the episode to keep the comments section clean of those comments. Pretty smart.
It can always be re-conquered. Rather loose a few provinces than the whole game.
good strategy Legend! its much fun watching you fix campaigns though I'm not really a fan of the Cathaginians, especially in Rome 2
Legend of Auto Resolve 😂
Not a single goddamn battle
Starting off in "Arse" seems pretty fitting
@55:30 Top 5 Total War Blitzkriegs
Christ this guys start with a merc stack omg... lol
if they ever make a medieval 3 I want them to have "run away! run away!" as either the break siege noise or when units route
Those little Roman Boats sailing around the map are so cute
@2:38 yep Legend, you are absolutely mad, and that's why I watch you :D
LegendOfAutoResolve strikes again!
Its simply a redirection of ressources into territory you have an effective way in holding/conquering. Later, you can still go back to Iberia etc.
It wasn't a bad decision at the start, you needed the money. But at the same time, I wonder how that huge mercenary army in Spain would have done against Nova Carthago at iol. Not only would you be shortening your borders, but fortifying as well. After conquering here, disband the expensive ass army and start afresh. Great video overall!
GG
I love your vids. You are making my day a lot better
You know it's gonna be a good video when Legend - already in a shite position - starts disbanding whole armies and abandoning cities.
3:40 The sound of enjoyment
I laughed so hard when he re-declared on Syracuse absolute fucking unit "Get out of my naval space you feckin cunts" God damn priceless shit mate
What a mad lad
Anytime Legend says, "You probably will think I'm fucking mad." I just think: Nope, I already know that this must be exactly what needs to be done.
Great video, funny to see how it turns out, and inspiring. Learing a few things for each video in the series.
But i have a question. If you had a vassal, which Total War game is best for that? For roleplaying, but also usefull.
I pretty much every total war game, except total war shogun (the very first game i belive).
I am curius about you answer. If it is true that every Total War games has "shitty" vassals, then so be it, no more vassals. lol
Stellaris has the best vassals. TW vassals...you're doing it wrong ;)
Vassals in Shogun 2 can be handy but only after realm divide has occurred. In that case, if you take a territory that you don't want to try to hold, instead of occupy you liberate a faction (only works if the territory you take used to be the home province of a clan that got taken over earlier).
Legend I don't think any sensible person would call you strategy mad, you just seem really defensive about it.
hes finally gone insane. hes lost it
I wonder how many people actually continued with their campaign after Legend saved it.
Having flashbacks of the total war western Rome run.
Edit: It was Atilla.
Get some food Legend, i heard your stomach growl a couple of times :)
no time for eating hun. didn't you hear him stating in that timurid video that he had a whole 70 'save my arse' requests in his mails and it was even increasing everytime he checked his inbox?
Having merconaries as army was a terrible idea to begin with so I dont think anyone would think you lost your mind at the beginning of the video. Maybe he wanted to turn the whole world into his vassals and you ruined it for him.
wow this is a disaster and a half, full merc army, no civil tech at all, that's absolutely nuts
Think of Adventuring as to being similar to merchants in Medieval 2. The further away from capital/borders the more money they make. How much money can it make? Not sure, would have to test it or look it up. However, its probably just better to put the agent in your army for other bonuses.
Veterans are FAR more useful training units in armies or being your anti-agent assassins. I don't think Legend is exactly correct in that Agents as a whole getting a nerf in the Ancestry update, as two agent types - the Patrician/Judge type, and the Veteran/Hero type - got a lot of buffs - but they did nerf spies/scouts a lot, so they're not good at taking out other agents anymore, and can't damage enemy armies until much later in their skill progression. Now Veterans/Heros are the units you use to disrupt enemy armies more often, and passively to add Experience to your units, and they're strong in those tasks, which makes the buff to adventuring less useful because you'll probably want to keep them around a lot more rather than out and on the fringes.
I've been playing Tww2 alot, is this one worth getting? Or shall i hold off until TW troy comes out?
They've fixed the adopting of a widow crush!!
After 7 minutes I'm like: "Go Legend Go!"
you said that temples are just taking slot in the city. But what about temples increasing % tax rate edict? I found it very helpful in the province where you have this edict.
Moral of the story: don't be a vassal to LegendofTotalWar
This guy is the Chuck Norris of Total War games.
1:48:40 "Your job is to keep your eyes on this turd right here." = Legendoftotalwar 2018
Not a single manual battle was fought that day
Yeah, I would have abandoned everything and gone back to Carthage too
mfw legends strawmans the same conversation over and over again arguing with himself
For people who knows how to play rtw2, you did the "Basic stuff" to stop a Crisis, you just need to read the game and think ... Then thats exacly what any player does to stop a long nighmare!
Legend, twirling a knife above the map, which is sitting over the heart of the sender: "Just trust me."
Legend throws the knife through the map, impaling a tumour the sender didn't even know they had, and it passes out the other end of their body without damaging anything else.
"...Just trust me."
36:17 That sounded like a stomach growl...
This was nothing compared to that this is total war campaign as the eastern empire, that was savage
They really should make a way to diplo annex your vassals in this game, or use political power or something to demand settlements
For me this genuinely never looked stupid.
you are lucky someone got Rome
I am not sure what difficulty this is but if it is normal you slowed down yourself. AI gets really weak once you manage to stay on the run deep in their territory.
I don't get why you were so defensive at the start, made perfect sense to me. Libya holding all your shit is a bullshit start and especially Iberia is too much of a pain in the ass with Carthage to not abandon
Good video
I trusted you!!!! You were the chosen one
If we wanted a failed state, we'd go to Carthage
21:35 Made me Laugh :D
Why do you go for the military port instead of commercial?
Why do the units only have 80 men instead of the standard 160? Was this some kind of co-op campaign?
Late, but not huge unit scale
LEGEND IS A MAD LAD
I always abandon iberia, is not worthy to hold that territory, i prefer to focus in rome, if rome doean't declare war on me i usually try to build up my cities and go for iberia
Wow! That was great!
Well, you are insane, but that's why i'm here.
Would you send campaigns to your fans?
because id take this one
Does another barracks add additional recruitment slots?
19:33 whenever that tab is open in Rome 2
1:32:44 captain Bannano
in rome 2 you can attack after 2 turns after breking diplomatic relations
Don't forget boys, papa legend recomends: " No more vassals" =D
I trust ya Mate
