Absolutely the best Pascal design for me. EVGA's clean industrial shapes are far more appealing than any other crazy "gaming" themes on other manufacturers cards. No stupid RGB as well. This one might be my 1080ti pick. I am still waiting for FTW3 reviews though.
We are split, I also really like the industrial designs, but I also really like RGB. I think if you use it in the right way it can make your build look very futuristic, which should be a plus for computers.
As an owner of this card for 4 years now, I highly regret buying it as it came with so many problems. The first of which is the second fan doesn't work with MSI afterburner still. Secondly, it runs way too hot as it clocks far too high. I can't even change the voltage curve since it's locked to the overclock setting that EVGA set. Still not happy with Gamers Nexus on this one.
in 2022, it may not be the newest ferrari, but its still a ferrari. hold its value very well. what you would expect from any top of the line flag ship card. i ran my gtx 580 for like 6-7 years, get your moneys worth fellow peasants.

Excellent reviews as always. I'm curious though if you have reviewed the Corsair Hydro GFX GTX 1080 Ti Liquid Cooled Graphics Card and compared thermals, fans designs, plate designs, shroud designs to the EVGA Hybrids and in house hybrids. Thanks.
Thank you very much for the time and effort doing that video - although I am not in the market for a GFX card right now I enjoied watching it. I have an idea: Since you are taking every card apart could you give an overview over the vrm and capacitors quality that are used? Or can you include highres pictures of the PCB on your website so ppl can see the partnumbers - so it is quiet easy to look them up then and can judge the quality of the build.
Steve is the Fabio of the Computer World. Instead of getting Housewives all hot and bothered, he gets us Nerds excited when we see his dreamy locks in another thumbnail. It means we're getting another technical breakdown of something PC related.
Try this with 100% fan speed. Maybe then the holes help with reducing turbulence helping with either thermals or noise. Or maybe have the card run fanless and have a separate fan blow on it. Maybe then the holes help with cooling the card while the GPU is passive. Just a thought
Surpuppa neither of those are realistic scenarios though, there's no need to run fans at 100% and nobody's going to cool their $700 card with only an external fan, without using either of the fans on the card.
Gamer Nexus Your information is very useful to who would like to build an SFF system like myself, especially the thermal part of the video. Very appreciated that you made the video!
Hey Gamers Nexus, as always I appreciate the in depth coverage. One thing: Imo the sone scale is much better to display the differences in loudness of the cards because it scales linearly, unlike the DBA scale which scales exponentially. Yours a patron
Thanks for the review. Didn't know what evga card I wanted and your videos helped. ordered off your link so I hope it helps you continue these great reviews.
Probably not..i think he likes AMD or something.. If he reviewed those cards it would stomp anything AMD drops. He'd never review a 1080ti FTW3 elite 12ghz. Fps for days
If you ever get sick of doing this great content Steve you could easily do horse race commentary or auction sales, you can talk real fast very clearly:)
I know, Evga is the only ones out of the top cards that are small but still perform. I was looking at the gigabyte and the MSI but I already have a cryorig H5 Universal so a small card is ideal
8:56 Thermaltake Core V21. You put the rails on the side, two 120s and a gpu next to them. Boom! Cooler GPU! I have this setup with my V21/Strix 1070 and it does help :D
Really good job by EVGA. After the terrible job with ACX this is exactly what they needed to do with ICX. I personally will buy a brand for quality and customer service first, so hopefully EVGA will be this brand from now on.
I just got a Silverstone ML08B-H case and I will be using a EVGA FTW3 for the build providing the current GPU doesn't thermal throttle, so would a SFF case with no case fans like this case benefit from the front plate holes?
I was able to get the EVGA HYBRID SC2 when it was on new egg for 10 mins It gets here Saturday...... it will be a nice change from my GTX 645 and go into my first build. In other news I found a acer x34 in bestbuy for 700$ so I have a really nice monitor to go with it
this review has me even more excited for my 1080 Ti FTW3 card that's hopefully arriving next week, curious to see if the dual 8 pins and triple fan design will make any noticeable different in terms of overclocking
might be a stupid question but anyway : i've heard that the evga SC cards ususally use the same PCB as the FE's, is it the case with the SC2 or is this a whole new PCB design ?
Can you check how efficient the cooling is by setting the rpm to produce 40db or something of that nature and then check the temperature of the components? Great video as always.
Interesting test, but perhaps there is a difference when you have the fans very high or very low? and yes I do like mounting a side fan to cool the gpu so it remains at "idle" longer in most use cases, an open face plate like this is attractive for that reason.
Very informative as usual . Can you PLEASE compare the Galax GTX 1080 Ti EXOC to see how it performs being only a 2 slot solution ? I have one and would love to hear your expert opinion of its VRM cooling for overclocking due to temps with its smaller cooler and price tag .
hey GN, one question. did you encounter any power throttleling during the benchmark? my 1080ti sc2 get a big frame drop due to the power throttleling. and happens occasionally. any idea how to overcome it? i run default setting.
Gretat review as usual Steve. Would it be possible to break down a 1080ti by its component parts and their costs?. These top end cards are expensive bits of kit, and it would be great to know the cost to the manufacturer of assembling them.
Since this card had better minimum frames when overclocked compared to the MSI and GIGABYTE cards. Could you include some frametimes in the review for the EVGA card aswell? I have a feeling in my gut that the higher switching frequency of the nvidia ref PCB design (assuming 600Hz of the nvidia 8 channel volt controller compared to the AIB partner cards that trade switching frequenzy for higher FET count through doublers that cut the eventual switching frequency in half) has actually benefits for the stability of the clock as soon as you apporach about 2000MHz on the core. So my hypothesis is that this time around the nvidia ref PCB design with lower FET count but higher switching frequency is actually outperforming the higher FET count AIB cards in perceived smoothnes and better frametimes.
So, basically, EVGA has a slimmer 2-slot card, and it cools the best among other 1080Tis, and the noise level are about the same(100% is not comparable since EVGA has higher RPM). I wonder what other companies are doing lol.
How about in a mini ITX case like the Fractal Design Nano S where there is very little clearance between the PSU and GPU. Would this work better or on par vs a blower style fan?
Steve, I realize you guys don't have anywhere near as big of a budget as say Linus or Jayztwocents, so would it be possible to send you guys hardware to destroy for the sake of learning?
Certified Shitlord their has been examples of this before. so I assume yes, not destroy so much tho >.> that Titan XP hybrid they did was a user's model
Gamers Nexus Well, my brother just bought a CM Master Liquid Maker 92 for a class project which I'm very likely to keep after he's finished with it and since I really enjoy watching you destroy Asetec all in one units for the sake of science, I figured I'd consider donating this unit to you because I wanted to see how CM integrated a pump radiator and block all into a tiny unit and whether there's room for improvement in a future model.
If you would genuinely like to sacrifice a unit, we can make that happen. We could run a normal benchmark with it prior to dismantling it, probably. Please reach out for more info. Maybe we can send back a shirt or some other goodies as a thank you! www.gamersnexus.net/supportgn/1200-contact-us
Gamers Nexus that's pretty nice. I forgot about benchmarks. If I get to keep it after he's finished, I'd totally like to see you benchmark acoustics and temperatures under various clock speeds and voltages on both Intel and AMD. And then you can tear it down later to see what makes it so special.
Another 1080 or a ti? ....can´t seem to find any benchmarks figuring a 1080 sli vs 1080 ti .. weird. I have heard some weird stuff about DX 12 and sli compatibility, not sure if it all is true.
Matt Goebel that's what I did in a node 202 with Noctua slimline fans and it helps a lot in the mini itx form, it's running mid sixties to low 70's which is pretty good in that case.
it would be very helpful for evaluating overall cooler performance if you showed the temps a card would run at under artificial load at this or that fanspeed (at 10:35)
EVGA has increased the price to 750$ so now they are all at same level. Any buying recommendations out of Aorus xtreame, evga sc2 or msi based on build quality, cooling solution, performance etc, please ??
Thermal resistivity is going to matter more for these, and we don't have those values. W/mK is normally 1-5W/mK, but thermal resistivity and the thickness of the pad will matter most.
Wait. you mentioned they accounted for power limitations "ideally power which is what they have done here"? in contrast to Nvidia's hard power and voltage limits. That sounds like a big deal when looking for one to watercool and push OC without having to do shunt mods.
So question mine I just got from amazon is both fans post to spin at the same time or just 1 and the other come's on to lower temps when it hits a temps that it's post to come on?
The second fan only comes on when memory and VRM temps are high. Be careful though, if you install MSI afterburner only the first fan will spin. So make sure to use EVGA Precision X or whatever modern equivalent they have. I'd stay away from this card if you can, but if you do find a good deal it's okay. Just be prepared to install EVGA's software.
Those Palit/Gainward cards are so awesome! Theyre like always the cheapest, but always the coolest and quietest due to that HUUUUGE cooler. So, If you have the space... theyll beat everything else with temps.
Hi Gamers Nexus!! You know what I don't understand is all these different manufactures from the GPU, CPU, & MEMORY companies are continuing building and upgrading all these products $$$. While the gaming & software side is not producing the demand of all this power! WHY??
Games are made with average hardware in mind, not high-end, as has been the case since the existence of video games. It's because developers like to feed their families. Weird, I know.
This card is over $1000 still and it can't run games at 1440/120hz? I'd say the hardware is way behind where it needs to be. Especially at cost/performance ratio. I still run an R9280x, because there's nothing that exists yet that seems worthy of backing up a dumpster full of cash for.
get a asus oem gtx 1080ti put a ekwb kit on it a 240mm radiator with vardar fans and outperform all air cooled cards currently out including the new titan Xp.
Looking through the comments, maybe it's just me, but I think the card looks pretty badass with that shroud.
Bryce Trem me too
Agreed

looks great do they have thermal pads this time at launch, like evga cards but asus is my card of choice.
the aorus 1080 Ti non xtreme is also $720 and is basically the same as the xtreme
Hmm well, I guess one more avenue of exploration is cooler performance. So... keep noise constant and clocks + load constant and check temps.
How about doing the AB test in SLI, that is real scenario often overlooked with respect to sound and cooling.
Would a node 202 fulfil the case situation that was stated at 9:30? The card would be directly facing 2 case fans
Since this card had better minimum frames when overclocked compared to the MSI and GIGABYTE cards. Could you include some frametimes in the review for the EVGA card aswell? EVGA has increased the price to 750$ so now they are all at same level. Any buying recommendations out of Aorus xtreame, evga sc2 or msi based on build quality, cooling solution, performance etc, please ??
Wow, those .1% low values on the overclocked cards, I hadn't noticed that.
how good are these thermal pads they use? Obviously they are going to vary by location and vendor, but can you give me a range in W/mK?
Thermal resistivity is going to matter more for these, and we don't have those values. W/mK is normally 1-5W/mK, but thermal resistivity and the thickness of the pad will matter most.
Wait. you mentioned they accounted for power limitations "ideally power which is what they have done here"? in contrast to Nvidia's hard power and voltage limits. That sounds like a big deal when looking for one to watercool and push OC without having to do shunt mods.
Just meaning that the board has a different stock power budget and VBIOS profile.

This card is over $1000 still and it can't run games at 1440/120hz? I'd say the hardware is way behind where it needs to be. Especially at cost/performance ratio. I still run an R9280x, because there's nothing that exists yet that seems worthy of backing up a dumpster full of cash for.
get a asus oem gtx 1080ti put a ekwb kit on it a 240mm radiator with vardar fans and outperform all air cooled cards currently out including the new titan Xp.
..Did you rename this video, I swear the first time I looked at it in my feed it read EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC2 :Do the holes help?
It was the thumbnail

*cant wait for gamer nexus to tear down zotac's 1080ti's*
