- Lytham St Annes | Walk to the George Formby house from Fairhaven Lake near Blackpool
See the house where George Formby lived in Lytham St Annes.
Also watch our tour of Lytham St Annes - • LYTHAM ST ANNES | Walk...
We answer the question 'Where did George Formby live' by taking you on a walking tour of the part of Fairhaven and Lytham St Annes near Blackpool England where George Formby lived and died, alongside his wife Beryl (the house they lived in was named Beryldene after her - also known as the George Formby Blackpool home)
We also stop off at the Lytham Spitfire Memorial with a full size Spitfire plane in the middle of the park at Fairhaven next to Fairhaven lake.
George Formby lived at the house called Beryldene for nearly ten years until his sad passing in 1961. The house itself was built in 1932 and was originally named Cintra, and the house was owned by another huge star of the time the tenor Joseph Locke
A blue plaque has been installed outside the famous home that is inscribed:
Lytham St Annes Civid Society
George Formby OBE
(George Hoy Booth)
1904 - 1961
A musical entertainer and comedian, he bought Cintra from tenor Joseph Locke in 1953.
The house was renamed Beryldene after his wife, and he lived here until his death aged 56 in 1961.
We start this walking tour of Fairhaven and Lyham St Annes, Blackpool on St Annes beach next to Fairhaven Lake. Heading round towards the park we head down into the overhanging trees and foilage of the park and round to the famous Spitfire Memorial which always looks terrific.
Heading out from there we nip up to and along Inner Promenade, and along to the former home of George Formby one of the stars of screen and stage of the 1940's and 50's
George Formby lived at 199 Inner Promenade just outside the centre of Lytham St Annes. In early 1952 George started to become really ill and after appearing on Desert Island Discs he suffered a heart attack and returned to Beryldene near Blackpool where he recovered but also announced his retirement from making any more films.
I hope you enjoyed this walking tour of Fairhaven and Lytham St Annes. I tried to do something a little different with this video. If so then please subscribe for more videos like this from Gimbal Walk TV.

I can't believe how connected I feel towards you. You have covered so many places that are so very dear to me; Whitley Bay, Cullercoats, Tynemouth, Newcastle, Eyam, Mablethorpe, St. Annes, Lytham, Matlock Bath and the list goes on. If I ever just bump into you one day, Covid regs permitting, forgive me for just giving you a hug.
Ha ha you’re welcome - it would be very welcome as most people just put their heads down and look away soon as they see the camera coming towards them! 🤣
My missus and I were staying in an apartment on Fair Haven Road, two weeks ago. We were going to walk through the park but the weather was poor and rain was forecast. In the event, it didn't rain. I wish we'd walked there now. I love that area.
George Formby also had a house in Stockton Heath, Warrington where I'm from, he's buried in Warrington.
I'm 70, and my parents both though him a right gormless 'Ta Ta' as they say, after hearing him , I agreed.
Still, to each their own.
I have been there and seen the Spitfire. There is a tragic story connected with it. The pilot was from Lytham St Annes, I believe. He was over the Channel when he saw a downed pilot in the water. He radioed it in and stayed circling the man until he had to return for fuel. Then he set off back to the location to help the search and rescue. He was never seen again. Very sad.
Oh no! Wonder what happened to him?
Oh how terribly sad.
I can only imagine that he was shot down into the Channel. On a lighter note, I am old enough to remember George Formby. 'Hey hey... turned out nice again'. When we stayed at St. Annes, a few years ago, I didn't know about his house. Some of your videos are accompanied by some lovely music. Perhaps you could put on screen... or in the comments below, a song list. I live in Felixstowe now. Another resort you have covered; although I thought you'd missed out such a lot. Not to worry. I like watching your work. Keep it up. It must be keeping you fit!

This was all lovely. We must check it out soon. 👍
Thank you Gwyn - have a great weekend!
@@GimbalWalkTV You too!
Another great video of Lytham st Anne’s
❤️❤️❤️
What a weird world this is.
We didn’t watch your walk om Friday, as it was not raining we decided to drive to The Courtyard Dairy near Settle to spend some cheese vouchers our eldest gave us at Christmas, worth a visit if you like diverse cheeses, and we went for a curry when we got home.
When we left the dairy we decided to turn left and head for the M6 and have a look around Cumbria, big mistake, the A65 was jammed solid with crawling traffic as far as the M6 which looked as bad going north.
We decided to go south and have a look round Blackpool, joined the prom road by the tower and turned left, not impressed so we carried on towards St Annes, had a look round and rather than go back to Blackpool carried on to Lytham.
The weird bit.
I saw a sign for Fairhaven Lake and I muttered “That’s where Jonathan (our eldest) was pecked by a swan 40 years ago, do you want to stop and have a look.”
SWMBO decided to carry on, we eventually watched your walk on Saturday afternoon, the Spitfire wasn’t there back then but it was still a nice place to have a wander round.
Ah that’s a coincidence and a half!
Looks like a Beautiful home, then and now, he died rather young didnt he, how sad. Lovely to have those lakes and that park almost on your doorstep.
Oh yes definitely - and some peace and quiet too!
Turned out nice again...
Very interesting.
This ones been a bit different but still enjoyable thanks 👍👍
Very different from the usual ones eh!
Very interesting 👍
Thanks for watching Ray - have a great weekend!
Just watching the hellish ongoing Afghan crisis while following up your heavenly walk along this stunning coastal town. Thank you for your great input
Such a great quality video - really crisp footage - can I ask what kind of computer specs you have to edit something like this in 4k?
Using a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) with 16gb Ram 👍
Nice walk in the park. From Texas
Hey Texas!
How you’re well thanks for watching!
Lytham, is where the great les Dawson lived... 😀🇫🇷
Lytham and St Annes are TWO separate towns.
Most of the Royal Lytham AND St Annes Golf course is in St Annes as is the Clubhouse
As you enter the carpark this is the boundary between the two towns. St Paul's Avenue. Formbys house is in St Annes
Thank you
George Formby was already very wealthy before he became a star in his own right as his father was a huge name in the entertainment world therefore he could have easily afforded this home long before his own success. Good video though, cheers.
Thanks Sean!
You are correct that his father was a big star in the music halls, but as far as George junior being wealthy, you have to remember that he was 17 when his dad died and was one of seven. His mother inherited George snrs wealth and died a good while after George junior and by that time was almost penniless. So to say George jnr had money before becoming famous I don’t think is correct. I agree that the family were not poor.
Brill !
👍👍👍
Would love to know where your from your videos are awesome
I’m from Yorkshire 👍
The Civic Trust Plaque has the Tenor Josef Locke spelt Joseph how could they have got that wrong?
Yes very strange!

I got excited by the geese but when i watched it back I felt really bad for ruining their peaceful day 🤣
@@GimbalWalkTV 😂😂 yea poor little creatures 😂😂 it was a lovely video though 😎
Nice clear video otherwise.
Thanks for watching
It's a mk5, with 2 cannon's, and 4 machine guns. 👌🇫🇷
👍 thanks Albert!
Interesting...only 1 white duck 🤔
Yes!
I don’t know what that signifies though are white ones male or doesn’t it work like that?
Would you be implying that the other ducks are immigrant ones?
@@JustSean413 LOL no sir just thought odd there was only one
@@GimbalWalkTV I thought they could be either? Just letting you know I watch your videos intently. :)
@@dehewitt341 only one duck that happened to be white. All the others were two white swans and the rest were geese (Canada geese)
Shush....
👍👍
The camera should have gone inside the big house for a tour. Don't rate Fairhaven or Lytham. Should be renamed snob towns. Too snooty. The video was okay. Nothing special. The whole of the Fylde Coast has changed. Not for the better.
