Very good video! What books would you recommend for those who want to dive into Georgian?
as a Georgian who speaks 4 languages i can confirm that This video is great explanation of basic introduction of Georgian.. 10/10
If I may ask, what are the 4 languages? My guess at the first three are Georgian, English, and Russian but the fourth? Kinda hoping it's a related language of Georgian, like Mingrelian, Svan, or Laz.
you are right georgian is not hard, its just that there are barely any materials. This is why your videos are very valuable
Hopefully Georgian doesn't have a jigsaw puzzle grammar like Czech
@@dan.wood86 georgian grammar is not that hard tbh but it does have one of the hardest verbal system in the world (polypersonal, highly irregular etc...)
მე მიყვარს ჩემი ოჯახი, მაგრამ ზოგჯერ მსურს მათ ძლიერად დარტყმა (არა დედა და მამა ჯულია მხოლოდ ჰაჰა) 😆
me miq’vars chemi ojakhi, magram zogjer msurs mat dzlierad dart’q’ma (ara deda da mama julia mkholod haha) 😆

This is fascinating, thank you. I love languages and I'm intrigued by the Georgian landscape, culture and folk music.
I'm glad to see there's channels dedicated to teaching this beautiful language.
Please keep up these videos if you can. Not only are they very useful, there is also not much content out there that helps you learn Georgian. My wife is Georgian (I am British) and we are thinking of moving to Tbilisi fairly soon, so videos like this are invaluable.
Interesting. I love learning languages and I think Georgian letters look beautiful.
😊😊😊
As to me - georgian writing - is the niciest among others! And language sounds nice!!!
It is a nice style
Hi! I´m Austrian and I really fell in love with Georgia! I visited this beautiful country the 1st time in 2014, and I´m planning my next (4th) trip in 2024. I also studied the language hat home with books and CDs.... and yes, I find it not that difficult, than people told me it would be. I was always good at forming sound with my mouth, so georgian pronounciation never was a big deal. The "devilish" ყ... no problem, destinction between for example პ and ფ... no problem! BUT what really makes me cry is your verb system!!! Having different roots for different times or different basic forms compared to personal forms like მოლოდინი and ველოდები. And the fact that you have subject and object inside the verb. For example in Japanese "watashi wa anata no mimasu"...5 words, in German "Ich sehe dich" 3 words and in Georgian simply "გხედავ" 1(!) word. It makes the language very comact and hard to follow native speakers. I often switched to russian in cases like this, if I really couldn´t find the right georgian word. But I often experianced even young people speaking a mix of russian and georgian. I never heared someone saying სამზარეულო, everybody says кухня... maybe because it´s shorter. But the use it in a georgian way like кухнის სართული. But I can eat 10 ხინკალი without wasting 1 single drop of ხორცის წვენი on the plate! 😜
Thanks a lot for sharing, unfortunately you are right, we still use Russian words but I hope soon it will be less and less. The verb os the pain also for teachers as it is on of the most difficult part of Georgian. After ending the beginner level videos, hope to cover these "more difficult" topics. Good luck and enjoy your khinkali😍
Hi really love the way you speak about Georgian language and the way you simplify it. Looking forward to learning with you. Madloba

Hi there! Georgian is such a beautiful language and the alphabet is just sooo beautiful 😍 I'm not learning Georgian yet, buuut (if I ever decide to learn it), would you say it's easier to learn Georgian from English or Russian?
Hi, it is really beautiful but I cannot answer that question. I do not speak Russian so well, not even well. But when I explain the things I bring examples from many languages, you should ask this maybe to Russian speaker.

Hello, Anna!
Could you please tell me if you know of any courses for learning Georgian similar to Pimsleur courses?
I used the Pimsleur course for Turkish, and despite its superficiality-lack of studying grammatical rules-it really helped me start speaking at some point, overcome that stage where you know quite a lot about the language but can't maintain a conversation.
When you begin to acquaint yourself with a language, it's always good to first establish some relationship with it, to love it, and it's easier to do that when you at least start speaking it a little, rather than starting with textbooks.
Hi, I understand but unfortunately I do not know.
I give classes so I only know mine but of course there are other teachers as well so are giving classes.
Nice method by the way!
Very good video! What books would you recommend for those who want to dive into Georgian?
I would also put fonetic pronaunce in English except Georgian alphabet and english meaning to better understand and quicker memberise, so you will learn/catch words before even learning Georgian alphabet, hopefully that make sense 😅
Poor Georgian words😁😬

I'm from india and I'm learning language very good language and their letters beautifull🇮🇳
i've read about georgian for years now, learn a couple songs, i know the alphabet mostly, know some words. i've noticed the v sound (ვ) is pronounced more like a w in english. so when i do roman transcriptions for myself i use a w. also i render the ejectives as capital letters, because the typical apostrophe breaks up the flowing appearance of the word. for me for now anyway
About "ვ" it must be like "v", just maybe we have became lazy, same for "რ", I think it is the influence of English also
i listen to songs from the past and it's prnounced like w, or maybe a very very soft v. i saw the same thing when you said goodbye in your talking :)@@speakgeorgian
interesting!
Thanks!
From someone whose native language has articles: Getting used to no articles is much harder that you would think. It's not a deal breaker or anything but man, it is tough to stop using them. My native language is Germanic and about 15 years ago I started to learn a Slavic language and still to this day I overuse demonstrative pronouns as a substitute for the article in that language.
Other than that, sure, I am sure that Georgian isn't as hard as it may seem. But getting use to the different syntax (ERG-ABS system), pronunciation (those ejectives and uvulars), and the insane verbs (I mean it in a good way), ... well, those seem scary but probably aren't as much as you'd think. But OK, a new writing system is also something I would need to get used to. - But if I one day get the chance to learn some Georgian I will take that chance.
Please we need more videos
Wow. You are pretty

Hi I am georgian and I'm FORGETTING MY OWN LANGUAGE so can you plz do a vid about idioms?
I'm Latvian, have been visiting Georgia. Currently living in northern Sweden and considering to move to Georgia. Need more sun.
I remember mountains and forests and a lovely dog. By many aspects it could be a nice place to live, although in my case quite complicated to actually move. Do Georgians dislike foreigners who come to live there?
Are there some good books to download? I highly appreciate your input here and hearing language from native is vital. My brain needs also visual, readable stuff.... anything you could suggest, please?
Thank You!
Hi, thanks for your comment, many foreigners leave here, we are not 100% welcoming for everyone but we are okay with foreigners who live here, a lots of Georgians are in other countries and we do not have any right to complain!
Check this website:

Good luck

Do Georgians have something against Latvians or Polish? I will take no offence, I'm not identified with nationality. Also Iranians? I wonder how Georgians are with them? I know you have plenty Iranians.
@@SilvaEstSanitas we are not against Latvian (love your country, I have spent the best time there) and Polish people. With Iran we had problems in the past, many problems... but good people are just good people as long as they respect the country.
@@speakgeorgian Ok, i understand. Humans are strange when they lack empathy. If we all had ability to feel for others we would have much kinder and nicer planet to live on. Thank you for reply. Keep on good work with these videos! :)

Would you be interested in making comprehensible input videos with the TPRS method? Simple stories with a little whiteboard and no English. Check out “Dreaming Spanish” and “Comprehensible Russian”. Thanks!
Why not, but of course it requires more planning, if it was up to me I would not use English at all but it is difficult to understand Georgian as it is not similar to other languages. Spanish for example would be easier if you know any Roman language. I will think at least
@@speakgeorgian Of course, it's the work you have to do so don't let me make it more difficult! I just think avoiding grammar and getting input like a child would be fantastic! Thanks for your efforts. Christ is risen!
