5 Reasons Why I'm Optimistic About The Future Of Diablo 4

- I'm Raxxanterax and I make Build Guides, Leveling Guides, Tier Lists and More for Diablo 4, Last Epoch, Path of Exile and Path of Exile 2. Last week I got to go to Xbox Studios in Seattle to test out the new Spiritborn class coming to Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred Expansion. After getting to meet the devs and see what's coming I couldn't be more excited about the future of Diablo 4. In this video I'll break down the 5 reasons why I'm optimistic.

Rax is always very thoughtful, and NOT simply reactive, so his opinion carries significant weight with me.
Very much so, I tend to watch him for his advisory videos. This is the first one I have caught of him on about D$ though in regards to upcoming content that I haven't played yet

There needs to be more people (not just content creators) like him. Having thoughtful, data-backed reasons for your ideas is super powerful.
I really wish there was a Rax-like in every game community, another game I very invested in I don't see any creator giving constructive feedback as Rax does
Rax like every hate farming content creator banked on diablo 4 and it made the career of bottom feeders such as DM. Now it's popular they're switching sides. Can't change rats can you and this one looks like one.
Judging by the comments sections, there is an humongous amount of people that has given up on Diablo 4, that still spends a lot of their time on youtube content about Diablo 4. Absolutely fascinating behavior.

Yes, we still care about the series. Just extreemly disapointed in D4.
Not gonna play it or buy it anywhere near full price. But I will still follow if it is getting better.

The ARPG arms race is really good for us players. Very excited about the gaming options right now and upcoming.
Next year is Gunna be crazy, I'm pretty sure new elders scroll is coming, new fable game, poe2 and more I'll Probz forget d4 exists

Same. But the pressure is on Blizzard, if they want 90 bucks for a new expansion, I hope they'll make it worth it. Especially when you consider what PoE just released as a free update.

@@Chris.Fate. It's 40 if you go base, 90 is the most expensive one. And again, even 20 is too much if a new class is all they'll be bringing. Especially considering the game isn't f2p.

I'm so glad they invited raxx for this event. There is no one else I would have rather watched.
The look on the guys face when raxx asked about loot filters was priceless. His answer gives me confidence that we will quite litterally never see a loot filter, but maybe I will be surprised one day.
i like D4 more than i like poe, and iknow poe have been out for 10 years. But their loot drop and crafting feels like work to me. I dont wanna come home from work, spend 2 hours to trade on a trade site and buy gear from other players to play my game.
I want the items to drop, see an upgrade, get happy, and kill something harder, and then repeat.

Try Last Epoch, it has a really good system for SSF. But there’s also a market option.
Happy that it's seemingly doing better.
I'm still not gonna play it, but I'll keep following the development.
I am going to be honest, I don't see a bright future for Diablo IV, given their current direction, what they have done so far, and the state of the game as it is.
The team may have all the passion in the world, but they just can't turn that passion into quality results. They may read feedback, but they still don't have any good community interaction.
I see the game slowly peetering out, and losing its players to other games, unfortunately. I haven't seen anything put into the game thus far that really fix the game's issues. We'll see if they surprise us, but they have yet to go over and above what is expected from them, rather than just the bare minimum.
What games? D4 doesn't compete with PoE
@@VargVikernes1488 Grim Dawn, PoE 1, PoE 2, Titan Quest 2, Last Epoch. 2 of those are yet to be determined, but people will test them out. And the other 3 are just better games than D4.
@@LordJaroh none of these compete with D4. Most of the D4's audience will never play another ARPG, especially POE or POE 2. Maybe Last Epoch, but the other games don't provide the live service experience
@VargVikernes1488 PoE doesn't provide a live service? PoE 2 won't? Besides, the "live service" aspect of D4 is terrible. I wouldn't want the others to have it.
I guess in a way, you are right. They don't need to compete with D4 as it isn't good enough to worry about competing against.
@@LordJaroh I was talking about Grim Dawn etc. Obviously, PoE does provide that, but it's a completely different game to D4 and the audiences will never cannibalize each other

Thanks for all the feedback, Raxx...but I heavily disagree. If they are indeed knowledgeable and experienced, that just makes it even worse for exactly the reasons you stated: They had to rebuilt the game over and over.
The disconnection between players expectations and Devs direction is absurd at this point, moreso, the fact that you confirm that they did not have a correct pipeline for absorbing and implementing feedback from the large community is simply mind-boggling.
I cannot wrap my head around this "permissiveness" with their constant mistakes and mishappens, when if you consider ANY other service or product, that would not be the case: If you go to a 5-Star restaurant, are you truly saying you would be ok if they got your food wrong or really bad-tasting 3 or 4 times? Would you recommend it to friends? Would you come back?
If you went to have service done in your car and they put the wrong set of tires or wheels or instead of exchanging the oil they replaced your seats...would you be fine and recommend it to people?
If you went to buy clothes and the clerk kept bringing you the wrong pieces you asked and the wrong sizes and the wrong colors...would you be comfortable in coming back there again?
On top of all that, more and more their presentations feel like a mental reflexive and repetitive, self-indulging, action of their own work and ego, going over details of concept, art, photography, creative process...in a gameplay review! That only makes it appear that they have less to show. If you want to present all the background and creative process, then structure for such creative presentation, in a different block from actual gameplay presentation.
I appreciate your points and pondering of their work, and I don't mean to connect that to their personas and individualities, but as a team that composes a workforce, they have been found lacking.
The Campaign was solid at launch and they've been improving the late game steadily ever since. The vast majority of feedback I see on the current season is very positive. Not sure what all this negativity is based on. If you personally don't like where the game is at that's fine, but you're trashing the dev team when most players are happy with their work.

Didn't even read your comment and I can already tell that you're 100% wrong. The game has already been shaping to where the community wants it. The devs have been listening to the feedback of the community and have been improving every season. It's a big W for us Diablo 4 super fans and we'll be eating good in the upcoming expansion.
I mean if we ignore that PoE and Last Epoch exist... maybe D4 can seem like a viable game. However, as is, this game is a joke and no amount of hopium can make the Blizzard team look any less like monkeys with no vision or an idea how to make a good game.
It IS adorable to hear Raxx talking about "secrets" as if there is any chance at all that it is something that will not be a total joke, especially considering what else is out there.
Your description and feelings about the team doesn't match their actions - and to me, actions speak much louder than words.

If the team is so great - now WHO fails to implement the most basic features from D3 like group finding, armory? WHO designed that convolution of mechanics and all the boring plus one digit percent affixes? WHO ruins anything good with brainless nerfs?
And Graphics Design Guy in your stream was not interesting to me. Yeah, agree, game looks nice. What use is it if game mechanics and itemization still suck after a year? Why have an ultimate gorilla ghost dancing around when it doesn't affect the health bar of the mob you are currently fighting?
You should measure them by the product they deliver, not by how nice they appear to you.
What are you talking about rax . By Rod Fergusson own admission this was the first published game for the majority of the D4 team. Just because you met some senior devs in the event doesn't mean they have a good team.
yeah it's like he's forgotten about those 2 "designers", one of whom was a senior, who had no clue how to play their own game. they struggled through a dungeon on world tier 1...
“Keep waiting! The game is going to be good soon!” should be the motto of D4

Mate... Blizzard is a billion dollar company which has hundreds if not thousands of people working on D4. GGG has a fraction of that, I think at point it only had a couple people working on PoE as the were going gunho on PoE 2 and yet they were still able to put out fixes. I want to believe, but I have been deceived too many times its kind of hard to do that right now. They need to actually deliver for us to have faith again in them :/
True. I havent preordered expansion. After seeing Raxx playing it its not that great as they try to make it look. Sure for streamers it doesnt matter as they will buy and stream it no matter of what. Its us they usual gamers is what we have to decide. I can confidently say that if i buy expansion i will play it maybe few weeks and then its done with new content and new class. Its the other things what matter how they make game more enjoyable

I still feel like I already gave Blizzard a lot of money for a polished game that I didn't receive. Still feels like I paid to beta test their game. I'm glad the game is getting better, but I'm not forking over any more money until I get what I paid for, which won't happen because it'll be blocked behind a $40 pay wall come October.
I really wish they could add Runes and Runewords in the future. Not now, but later on, in a year or more. It's such a cool thing to grind for...
I, as a veteran D2 player (and many others think like that) would play this game for 20+ years as well if they added runes and made them increasingly rare (not absurdly rare, but also not available to everyone on day 1).
You guys have no idea how fun it is to find a Ber rune out of nowhere, from a random chest or even from a regular mob. When you hear the noise it makes when falling on the ground, and see the orange "Ber rune" text in the screen (with Exocet font), dude... It makes your heart beat faster, I promise that.
They may in some form but I doubt it will be able to match what D2 runewords were. To this day no other items in any game are as fun to hunt for. Completing a solo self found enigma for the first time is peak arpg, no better feeling.
Jusy played through d2r normal and love the runeword crafting system
I felt the same way about set items. Items that come together to form a bigger picture and don't directly have to be farmed from bosses were always appealing to me. But, these systems are found to be too complex for people nowadays. What made Diablo 2 special is that the gaming community was not obsessed with FOMO yet. We were all just experiencing something new for the time.
My main issue with the game is that outside of the pit and uber bosses the game is to easy. You can equipped any 925 items and pretty much blast everything. We need more activities to test characters at certain levels.
I feel this way too but I think this ship has sailed. The vast majority of the playerbase now are D3 players and casuals and they've spoken and don't want the game "slowed down" or to "not feel powerful" etc. Just look at how easy uber lilith and the level 200 tormented bosses are now. We may see some refining to difficulty in the future but I'm not expecting much.
@@krismate2895 everything is too easy, because everybody is playing S-tier builds. It's just the nature of playing games nowadays. You can't go back to an era before everything is figured out before the season even hits the servers. The only way they can make everything harder is by making S-tier builds unachievable without 2-3 uber uniques, basically, or nerfing everything into dust, effectively killing the game for 99% of the player base. There needs to be some balance, where the game doesn't lose all meaning once you can kill Uber Lilith, but it's a lot harder than you think

@@bipolarexpress9827 Nope, not playing bash or any bleed builds. And the game is far too easy at every stage. People easily fight enemies 30 levels above them during the leveling process and then need level 200 enemies to pose even a sense of challenge at level 100. Level 200 tormented bosses and Lilith are now an utter joke as well.
The issue with at least some of the hate is we've been testers for the last year, most of the issues have been present since the demo and left alot of us saying,"If I as a Non dev can see these glaring issues then how didnthis get released??"
That leads people to start saying things like donthe devs even play d4.. getting a random one shot because everything is washed out with similar tones is horrible, the skill tree and skills are just really dull, boring and most of which are useless..
Ine would think with ao few options that every class would have at least 3 -S tier builds to choose from .
I agree D4 is in the best spot it's been since launch but being a tester dor a game i spent $100 on and of course being a Sorcerer player just feels like shit... If the game improves enough I'll spend more $$$ but until then LE amd POE 2 have more of my attention
Not sure why ppl need to act like these games are sports teams and take a side. D4, Poe, LE, they're all good. Raxx plays them all.

because D4 acts like it's the best in the genre with its pricing and monetization practices and is practically a scam compared to the other aRPGs it is competing with. it deserves to be shat on just because of its price tag and its lack of delivery on that price tag. Right now you are still better off playing D3 than D4 which is an extremely sad state to be in.
Because being butt hurt is a real thing that happens . When somebody says a negative view on a game somebody is in love with they get offended by it.
I'm tired of hearing D4 bad when it is getting better. each ARPG can do their own thing, and I am happy to cycle between them each season. If any of them are getting good content then its a win for players
well, the reason the meme came about is pretty much the mixed bag that we've been getting from D4 up until now and it's only JUST starting to get good....before now, it HAS been a case of D$ bad....so now I just hope with S5 coming up and this Expansion that it's going to be D$ Good now :)

Well, those of us that paid full price for a product that was dogshit with no endgame, and that STILL struggles with content after leveling, don't want to pay more money to that studio.
They should be giving this expansion away for free to anyone that bought the game in the first few months.

Honestly, what people tend to forget is Diablo is aimed for those ARPG players who do not have time to play at least 500 hours in a single season. If you are a casual ARPG player who are only in it for the good atmosphere and some grinding with okay boss fights and all then Diablo is perfect for you. You just cannot compare Diablo to Poe, even if they both are in the same genre you will never have enough fun in PoE if you cannot invest that much time in a single league.

PoE actually makes you want to play more regardless of how much time you have or don't have. Probably the biggest difference between the 2 games.
@@mikes2106 well it does not. Your wrong last league made me quit Poe 4 days into league. And i play poe for many years .... its not like that always and people who cant play much wont like the game cous of complexity!
@@Xenotimes Last League was an anomaly, 90% of POE leagues are great meanwhile up to this point only 25% of D4 leagues were passable.
I played both POE and D4 quite a bit each season since launch and POE last few leagues.
Both games has its charms, I like D4 more personally though, since I dont have to invest much time in it to have fun.
Also, Im getting kinda bored of POE movement/combat, already thinking about stopping new league lol. D4 is just waaay ahead of any arpg in this regard.
The only thing I know for sure about diablo 4, blizzard has lost their mojo and it’s become a cash farm.
Whatever the secret thing(s) is, it better be related to more build variety, like way more skills, runewords, new crafting system (with actual recipes not only rerolling affixes) etc. New endgame content is important but there's no point in new content if you will run it with two builds per class every season.
Fix tempering? Add paladin? Give Druids a normal body option?
skills seems to be changing a bit atleast, since level 60 is where you get paragon instead of 50 now

100% this. I am not giving them any more money until they release the features of the expansion. 1 new zone, 1 new class and the continuation of the story is not justification for giving them more money. We need a wardrobe for being able to easily respec, new crafting system, runewords, etc.

I can add 6th point: Diablo 4 allows you to skip campaign ( not available in PoE1/2 and Last Epoch ).
Couldn't find any actual info on why the future is bright in this video, just "trust me". For example are we going to have a better loot/gear system? Greater affixes feel bad and too random, on top of it we have random upgrades with item bricking. Season 4 had good changes, but they still are lacking. I'm waiting for PoE 2 at this point.
And still no lfg system in a mp game. Yea future is bright 😂😂

I've been waiting for Blizzard to "fix the game" for like 25 years at this point. It gets old. I can do my part and not give them money. No more preorders, no more buying at launch.

The fact that they’re listening to feedback means the game has a great future in being trash.
They're still implementing feedback that was given during Open Beta a year and a half ago.

Stop being a mega simp to the devs just because they gave you attention … they released a trash game and spent 4 seasons fixing it… what a joke
D4 is a fine game as it is. It's not for people who want a deep experience or seeking a challenge. In exchange you get polished, shiny, albeit shallow experience of an ARPG which has a place in the market for people who have 2 hours of play time per week and just want to log in, don't think too much and slay some demons but still get some meaningful progress done.
What is annoying about it is Blizz thinks this experience should cost hundreds of pounds but their target audience has more money than time so it works perfectly for them making them a lot of money with a lot less of an effort required on their part in terms of development and refinement of solid new ideas.
I know that they are making a big effort to produce a great game and I'm sure there are a lot of great people there, but the mistakes and disappointment they have provided lately are undeniable, which also looks a lot worse when you see how POE can launch such massive patches with great changes with no bullshit and not behind another paywall. I really wish they could do better, I don't hate them, but I just can't help to feel dissapointed with what they deliver.
I love Street Fighter but is how taking inspiration from it going to make it a better arpg. Them taking cues from non-arpg games is probably one of the biggest reasons why the game feels so unrewarding. I'm glad they've learned a lot and hope theyre able to do what predecessors have already done.
What I like about raxx is hes not afraid to give a lot of negative feedback but he also presents solutions to anything he finds wrong with the game

" We want this game dropped at this time, with this budget , with these ways to make money with these micro transactions"
D4 good Raxx? I think it's too early to get excited, especially after only playing a lvl 30 pre-built character. Remember how cool D4 was during the beta when we were lvl 25...

so they just gotta fly us all out, feed us and get us hotel rooms, let us try a version of the game somebody cared about, and maybe opinions will change.
There was a video that the D4 team released pretty early on after launch that spawned the intense dislike of the dev team where two individuals were playing through a dungeon. The general reception from the community is that the experience they were portraying in that video was completely disconnected from reality as experienced by customers. I strongly agree with that sentiment, and felt at the time it was damning proof of why the game was so terrible at launch. I don't know if they're still working on D4, but based on the last two patches, there has been a marked improvement in the amount of experience and passion the design/dev team has for making D4 a phenomenal game.

Just something about Diablo that just always feels good and keeps me coming back. I can't say that for any other arpg and I have played them all.. I get mad when they nerf my favorite class the druid but let's hope S5 brings them back to glory 😊
Agreed. I have more hours than I want to admit in PoE and the new Last Epoch Cycle but as good as they are none of them have me WANTING to play it as much as Diablo 4 has done. There is just crack in the gameplay loop man
You have to be optimistic - it's your job after all. But we, as consumers, are not convinced. I for one won't be spending yet another 40 Euro for a shiny new OP class bound to be nerfed and a green zone in an unrewarding game with worse monetisation than some of the F2P games out there.
I've been a lifelong Diablo fan. I played Diablo with my childhood friend all day and night every time I slept over. Diablo II was a godsend, I have thousands upon thousands of hours in it; I still play it `til this day, along with many mods of it. Diablo III I play for 1-2 weeks on every single season start. Diablo IV I have barely touched, I honestly wish I refunded it.
As a fan of the series, what can be said to me to change my mind/view on Diablo IV? It just has *nothing* unique or exciting over the other ARPG's out there.
Blizzard is releasing an expansion for a game that doesn't even have the base game completed. Why are people okay with this?
Did you even try out season 4? But I think its too late for now since helltide shrines are quiet compared to s4 1st months
@@kendement071 what was different in season 4? The actual seasonal mechanic (as in not in Eternal) was an NPC you turn in rep to. Crazy boring with 0 thought.
What did they do to base game?
Change armor
Add a new tier of the same bosses
Added 1 boss
Added another GR-type event
Added master working and...i cant even remember the name, but they did add new crafting options which was fine. Except it is another pigoen hole to having to do the same thing over and over. No real choices of doing other things to get the same result
Helltides they added 1 event people cared about to expedite leveling.
Im sure other stuff, I havent played in a month and forgot probably several things
Season 4 was definitely better, but almost none of it was new to D4 and the crafting was apparently a copy of LE (I couldnt say for sure on that one) but this team does not do innovative or fun creativity.
@@kendement071 yes. I have a level 100 with a bunch of masterworking. It was boring. What was even the season theme? It was *that* forgettable.
This also doesn't answer the question of why you're okay paying for an expansion to a game that doesn't have a complete base game.
@@WolfieeifloW It's not for you to decide what a complete game entails lol. If the developer says its a complete game then that's it. Whether you think it's worth your money is a whole different thing. These mental gymnastics you people have sometimes....
@@MMoer it is definitely up to the consumer what a complete game entails, like what? They released the game in an incomplete state with plans to release/fix things at a later date that they already knew (and still know) are wrong. It's a filler. They can extend the fourth season to get extra time, like they did in D3 where seasons lasted 3-6 months. But they are trying to keep your interest while not revealing key features of the DLC. If DLC doesn't bring a lot of QoL and mechanics improvements, it will be a big loss.

It won't be the best, but it won't be the worst either. There are some useful of improvements to items, tempering, bossing and UI. I'm not very excited for the new game mode, but the Pit is still there and it's fun. Maybe Blizzard will announce more good stuff next week - let's see.
It will be better than s4 as all of features of s4 will stay and they are giving us overhauled uniques new end game mode and quality of life features. Plus buffing sorcs… don’t see why people would not be happy about s5.

@@Steph1 true I agree with you, it's my favorite class honestly. I just don't see adding a third slot really making a difference. I mean we use the same 2 enchantments in pretty much every build for a reason, the rest simply aren't worth using so if they were to give us a third slot it wouldn't really shake things up. You'd still use the 2 go to enchantments and then slap one in the third slot just for the sake of using the slot. Hopefully it's something they'll touch on eventually

I blasted D4 on release and had a fun time. I hear you Rax and believe what you're saying but not sure I can feel good about giving blizzard anymore of my money. If this (and future) expansions were included in the already exorbitant $90 I spent to play this game (not 3 days late) I'd be down to give it another go. However, considering the mediocre flesh out of this game and failure to provide a compelling reason for the initial (and subsequent) hefty price tags, I'll stick to PoE and Last Epoch's vastly less predatory financing. If a game is going to cost so much more, that's fine. HOWEVER, it needs to be a DAMN good game to justify it. As far as my experience has been thus far, D4 is a subpar cash grab compared to its competitors.

Appreciate the positive vibes Raxx. At the same time I would counter that Blizzard having time to create new things now that they spent a year fixing the game isn't reassuring. The same dev team that launched a mediocre game is the team that would be adding new ideas. If their ideas tended to be good, the game wouldn't have needed a year to fix. One other counter point - the D4 team being the largest Blizzard team only makes things worse. If D4 at launch is the best that this massive team of talented creators can do, then I wonder how talented they really are at game development. POE is developing POE 2 and the massive 3.25 league with a smaller team than Blizzard. Last Epoch is in a better place than D4 with a much smaller team. Both have more customer friendly price points than D4 as well.
The new poe league dropping in the wake of the new D4 character was a huge blow. Blizzard revealed a new cabin, and then GGG revealed a new castle.
With POE2 on the near horizon, Blizzard can't afford not to get things right. If they don't, the entire D4 franchise is dead.

To be honest at this point Rex just pushing Diablo 4 propaganda; might be unpopular opinion but hey they streamed the gameplay for the expansion and talked about colors and some jungle design… and some abilities of the classes like u pay 40$ for a class DLC and new colors everything seems as usually crappy dungeon layout and boring enemies with no exciting encounters. Might be fun to explore for a day and then it will get boring because it feels the same. Poe bring so much content for free yet we get a dlc character for 40$ that doesn’t even feel like Diablo anymore it went into some kinda wow style. It’s good to be optimistic and it’s good to have a concurrence but blizzard doing minimal effort for sake of quick cash with minimal effort at this point just check Poe isn’t small studio but compared to blizzard it’s a joke even last epoch did better then Diablo 4 last season

I really hate to say it but a paid trip for the chosen ARPG "influencers" seems to be working. They got em. All of em gave stellar reviews eventhough they pretty much played the same crappy buggy game. I mean look at the dungeons - low density mobs and lots of walking around objectives but just in a jungle setting. Wasnt this fixed before? If they're truly honest it wouldnt be great reviews and now after some backlash had to resort to these kinda "positive" takes about the future of D4. And i do like Raxx and the others as they are entertaining and before this I thought they were quite forthright in their opinions. Now they are just shilling.

i agree, i like the devs. and they definitely listen, they absolutely took the idea of the new codex from a campfire chat when some q&a suggested it and u can tell he never thought about it like that and it was a good idea.
I really enjoyed watching your stream of the new Spiritborn class and your interviews with the Devs. I've been enjoying Diablo 4 since launch, and I've seen how much better the game is now compared to when it launched. I can't wait to play the new class while still hoping for an eventual holy-warrior class (Crusader was my favorite in D3).

Was playing earlier this week with my boys, and we were talking about loot, and I just had a crazy thought. One of the issues the game currently faces, I think, is that I don't really get excited when loot drops anymore. It just RAINS legendary items during the endgame. And even when a GA item drops, it's usually crap as well. So I got an idea: what if you (as the player) could set stat priorities for each item slot. And then if any loot dropped that met, say, 2 out of the 3 stats you'd identified (user selectable), it would drop normally. Or if it had an aspect you'd favorited, so you can work on maxing out your aspects. But if any loot dropped that DIDN'T meet your priorities, it would instead drop as a shattered mix of materials/gold, since you're going to vendor/salvage them anyway. That way, when something actually drops, you would get excited knowing it's going to be something you can actually use and might be a legit upgrade! And then if you get your BIS for a certain slot (say, Harlequin Crest), you can select an option that salvages all items for that slot (helms in this example). With this system, most of the time you're cruising around, you won't actually get much loot. But when it drops, wow, you KNOW it's going to be something cool. This would also eliminate a bunch of salvage/vendor/filtering activity, which I don't consider particularly fun. Maybe this is a system that only activates at level 100 and/or is toggleable by the player. For uniques, it could work based on number of GAs an item has. So, once you find a good 'normal' unique, you won't see any more until a 1GA item drops. And then once you find a good 1GA item, you won't see any more until a 2GA item drops, etc. Could also filter by Item Level, so you don't waste your time with the stuff that drops from the Level 80 bosses (Lord Zir, etc.) Anyway, just trying to think of ways to make it exciting to see Legendary items drop again. I agree Diablo 4 is getting better, but I think the magnitude is not enough. POE created a much bigger patch with a much smaller team and most importantly, it's free. If Blizz expect us to pay 40 dollars for something, it should have much more content than the free content someone else provided (although I'm so excited for the new league, I paid 60 dollars to buy a second tier supporter pack).

I wish people would stop the "it's free" argument when it comes to PoE. Yes, technically it's free, but the only reason they can make these huge content additions is that there are more than enough players who are willing to fire significant amounts of money into the game - and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that; it's how it should be: you enjoy something, you support it financially. I just think the "it's free" argument is nonsense. That being said, everything else you mention stands. The content additions that we've seen so far with D4 seasons feel relatively puny, when you consider what games like PoE are doing.
As a 11y POE player I've just come to accept that D4 is meant for a different audience and that's perfectly okay. Given where D4 is now I can't ever see it being a game that interests me more than maybe a day or two when a league launches. That said I appreciate Raxx and his optimism and will continue to remain so myself. I just can't see it in the foreseeable future. Especially when I look at what GGG is set to release with POE2 and how amazing last epoch already feels being such a new game and a new studio.

Bigger team is clearly not better, PoE is a pretty good example of it, size doesnt matter, passion for the material matters, and clearly many of the devs don't know anything about the material, don't care about the material, and frankly, clearly don't play their own game.
They really didn't need to think too much about the colors of the game, just copy paste Diablo 2, it had the dreary desert and its caves, they had the dark forest, abandoned/demolished villages, snowy terrain, fiery hell, the fact that D4 had its snowy areas and its desert areas feel almost identical shows more of their incompetence.
Just remember guys, you are paying $40+ for a DLC in a game that has an ingame shop and a season pass, unlike, you know, PoE that is free and has an ingame shop in which even if you just buy the almost necessary QoL items you would still pay less than D4 basic on a 50% deal... and I don't even like PoE

I think that's really awesome as a content creator, to be pulled in by the company and get an inside look at the things the do. And you're currently coming off of that high so it's understandable. I do like that you prefer to be optimistic rather than pessimistic. That being said, not much of what you said honestly assures me about Diablo 4.
Naturally people care about the things they do, like Bjorn (sp?) and the class he invested his time into. That's sort of par for the course. It doesn't really mean anything. The mention of a large team is actually the opposite of good imo. Their large team has kind of been a problem in the past. The machine is too big and when you have too many hands the quality tends to be sub par. At least for this Diablo team anyway. We've seen that since Day 1. People can care for the game but it doesn't mean they can provide the experience that the players are looking for or expect.
I am glad to hear that you're happy with the polish of the game. That, at least, Blizzard still has going for it with this game (mostly).
What I didn't hear is anything ACTUALLY good coming to us. Any positive changes that are going to make me happy with to play the game again in any meaningful way. They can finally create content? Why be excited about something they've fucked up so much already?
The changes they make continue to make the casual diablo player happy, but they completely ignore their hardcore fanbase. They keep making leveling faster and faster, their items are all still boring, classes are "FINE".

Diablo4 is 2 years away from 2 years away in being good. The game feels so hallow comparing to the recent POE news. The fact they couldn't take all the best parts of every ARPG and put it into d4 before retail launch shows how bad things are at blizzard.

I want side quests within side quests with interesting lore and story. I want hidden side quests to drop class specific uniques that are fun. Give us an extra ability slot. Make basic skills it’s own specific slot so you always have it no matter what build but it doesn’t take away from the versatility. Slow down the enemy’s I don’t minds fighting one enemy if they’re dogding me, moving around vanishing, healing itself. Create an area for these types of battle. It should feel like a boss fight but against a no name enemy, something where I don’t have to worry about being one shot but skill reaction, attrition to win idk maybe I’m asking too much
I dunno dude. Like its been like what? A year and change since release of the base game and we still havent gotten the cow level? We're still playing with the same skillset over and over on each class? Part of me thinks its going to be ok but part of me feels ripped off and defeated by how long it took this team to get their head wrapped around what this game needs to be.

It took D3 way longer to fix it's problems. Here's the simple solution: you don't like a game? Don't play it anymore. Go play other things you enjoy to make your life more fulfilling. Not everyone is going to enjoy a game as much as others, if enjoying it at all. And complaining certainly won't make it better. Devs would rather listen to proper feedback than the bunches of people bitching about not getting things they want. Constructive criticism is what makes games better, and I want more people to realize this instead of being bratty, selfish children

Rax is a nice guy. There is absolutely no reason to be excited for D4. Every 'fix' they have come up with is to water down the game, give less options, & to streamline the builds they made for you. Now they are going to charge you $40+ for more of the same with a different color pallet. Yay.
my main concern with blizzard is that there just must be too much red tape to go through for changes. poe just manages to get a lot changes in for every league than diablo has. and its not close. despite having a much smaller team working on it. i love both games, but for different reasons. i just think that if diablo 4 could get at least somewhat closer to the amount of changes etc. for each league that poe has. then itd be a banger of a game.
I think they are definitely making the game better. The hard part is seeing what PoE is doing for their seasons and its free, immediately sucks the hype out of paying $40 for much less changes and updates that D4 is offering. I genuinely feel that D4 should have given us this first expansion for free given all of the difficulties they have had with making the game acceptable. I don't mind if future expansions were paid, but making us pay for this first expansion feels like a slap in the face a bit.

In the end, D4 will probably be cheaper than POE if you want to spend a lot of time in POE since you basically need to buy most of the stash stuff to make mapping bearable, which is quite a lot of MTX.
I think I spend more in POE than D4 base game + expansion, which was $60 +$40, so $100.
POE2 will beat D4 to a bloody pulp and leave it for dead.
Nah Rax, sorry you are not selling this to me. I payed them 60$ already with hope they will bring some creative ideas to the ARPG table. What I got was a shallow game that got boring after 1 or 2 seasons even for a casual gamer like me. It even ended up straight up copying Last Epoch greater affixes because they couldn't figure out a way to get itemization more exciting. I lost hope and I do not believe there are creative individuals working on the mechanics of the game. Sure, they have creative talents in design and lore writers but that should be cherry on top. Right now this cherry is on top of a pile of you know what.
We all heard that a company blames the employees, changes them just to realize the problem wasn’t coming from the employees. Blizzard is the perfect exemple in my opinion. Making money > making good games. I have 0 blame for the game devs, they are just doing their jobs.
I was soured on the game as well and haven’t played since S1, but S4 was objectively fun. They’re headed in the right direction.
May as well give the game another chance in its vastly improved state since you’ve paid for it already. Saying it’s a “pile of you know what right now” after admitting you haven’t played in months is a bit disingenuous.
Raxx expertise and his dedication to ARPG, esp. the Diablo franchise is priceless. I don't trust most reviewers esp. the complainers as that seem like a cheap ways to get views - like news always reporting about negatives but never about white police genuinely helping out black people, those disproportionately gets under reported.
It's not just the positive message this video offers that stands out but it's Raxx who spends his life mastering Diablo4, pushing the boundaries, offering constructive criticisms and ideas/solutions. We're just so lucky to have him.
