My favorite DM moment was in a West Marches style game we are playing. One of the players got a curse from the previous outing to where they can't turn right (So he pulls a full 270 left to turn right). Trying to end a tense conversation and walk out like a movie scene........ was interrupted by the very slapstick description of him spinning around on his heels like a scene from the Naked Gun series and everyone in the room shooting glances about confused. We couldn't stop laughing at the juxtaposition of themes and tones.

My favorite DM moment was when my group kept wandering into useless parts of a dungeon I built. Essentially just wandering into the same three broom closets over and over. I decided to make one of the mops sentient, and through conversation they would find where the important areas of the dungeon were, because he cleaned them. Any other questions were met with a confused but goofy "I don't know, I'm just a mop!" Years later we still joke about it

My FAVE DM moment was the reveal the BBEG was actually a squirrel that was killed in game zero of our first campaign. He came back with a fuzzy fury, wanting nothing more than vengeance. After all he was bringing us stolen rations from the enemy camp, not stealing our rations and all he got was a dagger to the heart. Poor guy, we deserved every enemy he threw at us, let alone the random unexplained woodland creature attacks and seagull hot drops he stirred up with his smear campaign.

My fave DM moment was where I, the DM, conspired with another DM friend of mine to play a one-off character in Death House. He was with the party the whole way, fighting, figuring out puzzles, dealing with moral decisions, all that jazz. And then once they escaped Death House by the skin of their teeth he revealed he had killed the original character and had actually been Strahd the whole time, just messing with them. I fondly remember the screams of outrage when he gave them a fangy smile and said "Welcome to Barovia" before disappearing into a cloud of bats.

Favorite DM moment is tough, but I'd have to go with the time that I made a random shopkeep so weird that the party decided to break into his house later that night to try to figure him out. They learned a few things- #1: He was a bone-collecting, taxidermy-based alchemist , using flesh-eating insects to clean skeletons, #2: He possessed/produced recreational hallucinogens, which they sampled, and #3. He slept in the nude.

My favorite DM moment actually just happened this weekend. I had some buddies come up from out of town to play D&D, who I had ran for before. They brought 3 of there friends who hadn't played before, and I had such a fun time. I was surprised how everyone was engaged with the story and their characters background. You honestly wouldn't have been able to tell that they had never played before. We ended up running out of time and everyone was eager to finish the story so next week we're all going to hop online and finish the adventure! It was really cool as the DM to see everyone's interest and excitement especially for most of them not playing before.

Decided he wanted to destroy the cart just to screw over the party. Favorite DM moment: My first game as a DM. I was running it for 3 coworkers who had never played before. Plot hook was a burning cart in the roadway and signs of a struggle and footprints leading into the woods. One player heard birds in the soundtrack I was playing and deciding to "go play with the woodland creatures" and the other two decided the cart was not their problem and continued along the road to the next town. The next 3 hours were spent with them having the time of their life drinking lemon drops in a multi-dimensional tavern I made up on the fly and me panicking as I desperately tried to reroute them to cavern full of goblins I had spent a month prepping. Best session I've ever been a part of.

Favorite DM moment. I had just started running games as a DM. DnD 3rd edition hadn't been out long, it's what I started with, and the Living Greyhawk campaign had several players in the area. After playing three sessions, I asked to see the adventure we had just done, and it looked easy enough to run. I chose to be the DM for the next gameday, got the adventure, read it, and thought I was prepared. It wasn't until three and a half hours in that one of the players said to the group, "You know, he hasn't looked at the adventure for the last two hours." They had gotten so far off script I hadn't touched a page of the adventure since the opening encounter. That's been a hallmark of my DM style since. I know where you start, I know where I need you to be, and what happens in the middle is where ever you all take us. Such a thrilling moment to be able to let my creativity loose, while providing the players with the feeling that their choices and approaches to problems mattered.

Everyone loved their characters and I didn't know how I'd handle my first total party kill. It's now the bad guys turn and standing player would not beg for her life, instead she acted tough and kept the threats going. I had a new player in, they were level one and asked if they could shoot 2 arrows at once. I said they can definitely try, and the glint in their eyes when they realized the possibilities of DnD was priceless. Such a simple moment, but I cherish it.

My favorite DM moment is actually from my first player game which got me started running a Tabletop Club at the high school I teach at. I was playing a halfling rogue and was introduced to the party as an outsider who helped progress the party through the story. Was act first and ask questions later. We encountered a swarm of bees. I proceeded to climb a tree, splash oil, and light the swarm on fire. Through several unfortunate rolls between the barbarian and I, we ended up with the barbarian pinned under a burning tree that he cut down on himself.

My son got a figured maple set during the Christmas special random deal. He wasn't very excited about it when he found out what he was getting, but once he got it in person he was floored by how awesome it looked. Just like these fellas are saying, once the figuring caught the light it was magical.

My favorite DM moment: I set up a really awesome fight with a coven of hags that had a pirate theme. The players loved it. It was a tough fight. The warlock went down early, and the paladin scrambled to get him back up. The fighter had to scrape by as temporary tank while the paladin healed. My players fought so hard and burned through so many resources but emerged victorious! A very lucky crit completely decapitated the final hag. Years later they still talk about that fight and how epic it made them feel. I was a very proud DM.

Favorite DM moment...It was a "yes, and" moment I had with a friend who was playing a cleric in Dragonlance back in 2nd Edition (back when clerics never really got to shine much). Well, he had taken airborne riding as a proficiency way back at 1st level (we actually made fun of him) and was now high level and riding a silver dragon into battle. He gets the smart idea of casting a circular Wall of Blades centered on the dragon. Well, why the Hell not! He became a flying Cuisinart! Attack of the Ginzu dragon!!! It was glorious!!! That was 30 years ago and he still tells the story of flying headlong into red dragons and shredding them to pieces!

My favourite DM moment is when you cause your players to build an emotional string to other characters or NPC's and you can play that string to really bring out desperation and emotional investment. its the best feeling in the world when your players really care about saving that goblin and put ever ounce of effort and thought into it and seeing them feel accomplished and full or joy when they succeed or have to possess the sacrifice they had to make to get to a goal. Nothing else can create that level of emotional investment. I love being a DM for those moments.

Favorite DM moment: my players were facing a particularly deadly encounter and through previous campaign shenanigans, player deaths and learned experiences, they prepared, focused and worked as a team to defeat a challenging BBEG encounter by the skin of their teeth. It made me proud of them to see them work together to defeat something that would have killed that same party that started the campaign a year prior to that. Player growth, you love to see it.

My favourite DM moment was when I had an encounter set up in an underground dungeon that my first group of first-timers (D&D 2E) were making their way through. I had a hydra as the big bad, which was trapped behind a collapsed part of the tunnel, only 3 heads could reach through an opening at the top of the rubble. A lot of work making sure the fight would be challenging and balanced, didn't really have anything else planned. The whole party saw it, and just noped right out of there, didn't even give it a second thought

My absolute favourite DM moment was a simple random encounter, one of a hundred possibilities, that left a lasting mark on the campaign. A giant stumbled upon the party's camp during the dead of night, and instead of killing the intruder the party welcomed the giant to stay, drink, eat and talk. It started an entire side adventure to help the giant find his way home to a city in the clouds, and in the final battle of the campaign the city of giants came to the party's aid. Honestly such a good time.

Favorite DM moment was TPKing a group of new players on the first encounter in lost mines of phandelver, but then it allowed me and the party to have an excellent time playing the goblin hideout in reverse as an escape mission. New players got to experience two classic introductions session tropes in one game! For the record this was probably my 10th or 11th campaign/game that I have DMed over the last decade, and my first TPK. Sometimes the dice just be brutal like that.

My favorite DM moment comes from my perspective as a player. Me and a friend had never played before and we casually brought up wanting to try it to a friend who DM's. So he recruited a few more friends that play in his various groups and we set off on an adventure. He assumed we were mostly unfamiliar with DnD and we played possum during our session 0. Little did he know my friend and I had actually spent the entirety of lockdown binging campaign 1 and 2 or CR and various other one shots. His face when we wiped the floor of his first encounter with some clever combinations was priceless. He loved it, and then subsequently increased all monster health pools by 50% and killed my friend as revenge.

Favorite DM moment was the first time my players were so immersed in the world and adventure I had created for them that they talked, in character, for a solid 30 minutes and I just watched. Runner up is the first time I made a player cry at through a backstory reveal. I have made at least half my table cry by using they're backstories.

Favorite and one of my saddest DM moments was when we ended my year and a half campaign in my homebrew world of Runeterra (from League of Legends). A year and a half of building the characters and their influence on the world and the events that they went through, the character growth that everyone's pc went through, all for it to end with no one losing their character. It was a blessing and I will forever love the feeling that I had when playing the campaign.

A while back I ran an arc that dealt with an earthen plane princes back story. I loved watching my players piece together the mystery of how one of the players exes(in game) had manipulated him, his family, her family, and the kingdom to assemble a coup to put her in charge of the realm. It was quite satisfying all around for them to fight her at the end of it.

My favorite DM moment was in my current campaign. I have a scar in reality. Whenever my players talk oog about a cartoon, or movie, or character, or magic or whatever. A specific number of days later that thing appears from the scar as it flares. I keep track of all of this. One of my players recently figured this out and they were all screaming trying to figure out why and what they could bring into the world and the repercussions. Just seeing someone realize the exact number of days though made me proud.

Favorite DM moment is when after a 2.5 years campaign the bad guy was reveled to be one of the first helpful NPC for the party (A nice old man just happy to offer something to eat and a place to sleep). All of that leading to scream and tears at the end of the fight to find in his last souvenir it was controlled by a sort of Demon. My party was just so overjoyed to discover that because it meant the old "Gramps'" as they call him could be brought back without this entity. It meant a lot for them and for me to as I loved playing this NPC.

My favourite DM moment happened very recently. Proud to have finally got my MGT table and somehow had managed to keep it secret from my players since backing the Kickstarter so the first session I had with it set up I got them to go into a different room of the house where I had put my old table and started the session as though everything was normal (nothing weird going on this session guys) I had been building up a city combat with a mass prison break for several sessions. The time came where all the players were expecting to roll initiative, and because it was taking place in a very large area normally we just do theatre of mind but this time instead of saying "roll for initiative" I said "everyone get up and follow me" where I took the into the new conservatory I had built specifically to put the new table in where I had also been able to get some new city terrain and had set up an entire city block battlemap in the vault. The players faces were certainly something I will always remember. Epic moment for everyone.

My favorite moment aa a DM was a simple one: it was a day when I didn't have much prepared and was working from old material, but the party decided to go in a direction I didn't expect. Thinking quickly, I improvised an NPC that they enjoyed far more than I expected, and much of the rest of the session was just them laughing and RPing with them. That feeling was tremendous.

I had this amazing encounter written, of an antique galleon carrying a horde of hundreds of skeletons, zombies, and a Cadre of necromancers delivering a vampire's coffin to the heart of a major city. Maps of the ship, the harbor, the city streets all drawn up and ready for a long night of combat trying to stop the horde. My players firebombed the ship before it got close, and killed the encounter before it began. Everything from the satisfaction of building a huge encounter, to the outside-the-box solution, to the lingering story threads it spawned, was incredibly satisfying!

    My Favorite DM Moment:
Has to be when I was running a game for some of my buddies in college. They were in a dark, barely lit dungeon that had walls and floors made of bones, fighting undead and spooky puzzles. Scary type stuff. To set the mood I tried to turn off the lights but it was too dark in the dorm room. One of my players opened the microwave door and it was perfect. We played by the light of a microwave in a very small, hot dorm room with like 7 people. Much fun was had.
