The insurance for those over 65 is not necessarily what you stated. Never never never get a Medicare Advantage plan!!! Medicare part A and B with a supplement is the best! At least that is my humble opinion.

I heard you say that your insurance provider determined that your surgery was “elective” so you paid a higher amount. It sounds as though your insurance provider simply needs additional information on your case. It’s appropriate to call the doctor who did the surgery and explain what happened and ask them to send a letter of explanation to your insurance provider.
I can’t guarantee that they will pay but it’s certainly worth the effort. I worked in insurance for over 20 years and learned that it usually means not enough information was given at the time of billing.
Best of luck. I enjoy your videos even though I no longer have my RV.

Ive worked for an Insurance company over 22 years. Make sure you appeal regarding elective surgery category. Make them explain all parts of your bill. If you are not satisfied, file a complaint to their Fraud Waste and Abuse department. Not saying any would help however, your understanding of all bills any payment is important so you do not get railroaded. :)

Fight the insurance as they are probably saying the way that particular procedure was done is elective. Not the fact that you have to have back surgery. It is probably the way the doctor or hospital coded the procedure. My wife used to work for a surgeon and she would fight the insurance not paying all the time. A lot of times it would come down to the doctor telling the office staff what procedure codes to use would not line up with what was really done. Not sure this is the case for you, but always worth checking.

Have you appealed the insurance ruling? Document the bills, coverage, etc. and send it first to the Insurance Co one more time, then file it with the Insurance Dept of the state where your policy application was written. One thing Insurance companies don’t like is complaints filed with State Insurance Department.

So glad you are recouping Liz. I have felt so bad for you and am happy you have found relief. I have degenerative disc disease, a couple bulging discs in my lower back, a pinched nerve in my neck and sciatica. I have had short term fixes but no surgeries. Was told to go home and live with it by one ortho dr. Neurosurgeon told me he could do surgery and i would feel better short term but then would be worse. I came home and just live with it. No pain meds as i have adverse reactions to many medications. Pray you continue to heal. And your "arm candy" (Paul) is a great guy. Love from Iowa.

This is interesting.... I’m not a big techy person.... I understand that the more subscribers one has the better their chances for being paid, but not sure how this works. So you mentioned watching the ads..... that helps the youtuber? Is it necessary to watch ad to end to get benefit?

Never had even been in one or close to one. It was so big, it was intimidating! But I got used to it. It is only 25 ft, but pretty tall. Like a dinosaur i thought. I only bought it because i was impelled to do so. I figure it was due to so many evacuations from fires. But, once i used it, wow, loved it! I am learning about Diesel trucks on YT now. • @Greg_Gatsby
      @Greg_Gatsby 2 года назад +1

@@jennyd8826, I have limited insight to the mechanisms employed by RUclips to compensate the content creators. RUclips is a business that offers a way for content creators to share their thoughts, experiences, and their expertise with others. I am part of the world population who enjoys watching RUclips videos and be entertained or enlightened or both. With that large viewing audience, commercial businesses want to advertise to show their products and services to the same viewing audience. So, RUclips has a way now to compensate creators and one way to do that is with the program they call “ad sense” (or some similar sounding name). Viewers who watch RUclips can often skip ads, but those who do watch the ads generate some small amount of revenue for the content creators such as Liz Amazing. As I understand it, if you watch the first 30 seconds of an advertisement, it counts as if you watched the entire ad, at least for the purpose of generating ad sense revenue for the content creators. I’ve noticed some ads are much longer than the videos I watch. The ads of Doctor Gundry, if you’ve ever seen one of those, can easily run 30 minutes or more. Some content creators I am willing to help by watching the ads. Some I’m not interested in doing that. The content creators seldom have any control over whose ads are shown, but then some videos have paid sponsors. If a content creator is deemed controversial, their content can be demonetized which means RUclips is not willing to compensate that particular video. So, to summarize, RUclips does compensate the content creators and watching the ads contributes to their compensation.

I found that by laying flat on my back on the floor & bending both legs, pull one leg up over the other one & pull that leg up a little to stretch the back of your bad leg. Helps a lot. I’m so happy for you. I know surgery isn’t for everyone but it was the only thing that worked for me. After four weeks of excruciating pain I had surgery for my herniated disc and within a short time I was back at work and back to living my life. I had a micro-neurosurgeon and have about a one inch incision. Whenever I have had a massage since that time they are always shocked by how small the incision is. It sounds like you made some good choices once you realized just how serious your problem was. Take care of yourself and take time to heal.

NFORMATION: My wife has worked at a large Medical Clinic for thirty years. She works in the insurance pre-certification dept. It's her job to try to convince Insurance companies to pay for the services including surgeries that your Doctor has ordered. She is your advocate. She calls the insurance company with your information and Doctors information. Not uncommon for her to spend a hour on hold getting switched from person to person trying to find a decision person. This is usually a Insurance Company Nurse who will make the initial decision if you really need the services or surgery. That Nurse doesn't know you, has never met you, doesn't know your Doctor but yet that Nurse can and does make the decision that your Doctor misdiagnosed, or it's a elective surgery and not needed. Once denied my wife request a "pier to pier" which is the Insurance Company Doctor talking to your Doctor.....again their Doctor has never met you or seen your illness or problem in person. Again, their Doc will usually turn down the request for services payment. Then it goes to a appeal..........while this is going on you are still sick or hurting.
ALSO: For us Medicare aged people especially this time of year with the sign up time period upon us...........DON'T GO WITH ALL IN ONE Carriers for your coverage. They are private companies and you can go through the aforementioned nightmare. MEDICARE from the Government along with a quality Supplement is your BEST OPTION. Medicare through the Government usually does not require pre-certification. In VERY rare situations they might require a alternative treatment process......but if that doesn't work your Medicare & Supplement have you covered except for a very minimal yearly deduction ($180.00) ORIGINAL MEDICARE & QUALITY SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE is the very best way to go.
PLEASE be nice to Insurance Pre-Cert people on the phone......they work hard for you!

@@LizAmazing You are very welcome Liz! I hope your procedure gets you back to 100 percent. As a suggestion, I would try again with your Insurance Companies decision. Ask for a appeal....never hurts to try. Paul is so right about Gov. Medicare and a supplemental. They accepted me on the supplement with no problem.....that's after ankle reconstruction, total knee replacement, stroke, thyroid tumors removal, meniscus repair, heart attack with three stints, ongoing spinal stenosis, spinal scoliosis, herniated & ruptured discs...I'm a mess!!!! LOL...........sure not "cheap to keep" LOL!!! Along with Government Medicare and outstanding supplemental insurance from Omaha that use to sponsor "The Wild Kingdom" we still have my wife's work health insurance .......things are well covered.
Paul, you are a awesome guy as I am with my wife........Liz, I wish you the VERY best! God's blessing and a hug your way!

So very glad to see you upright. Please take it easy. Once you have irritated the nerve, it will take a little time for it to get un-irritated. Don't get discouraged if it doesn't get better right away, be patient. Glad you were able to get your surgery so fast. When I injured my back it was on work-comp and they did not want to approve a surgery. It took almost 2yrs before they finally allowed surgery. By that time my nerve was permanently damaged. That was done in 1996. I was one that was working with two kids. I had to quit my job and fight with work-comp for 2yrs! What an ordeal. So, so happy you are on the mend. Sorry your insurance didn't cover your procedure. Getting an ergonomic chair is a great plan. Buy a good one it will be worth it. Best to sit in one to see how it feels. Love you guys, take care. Look forward to your next video!

Dr. Jose Sarria at the Peregrine Institute for Pain Management in Tampa, FL really helped me. He gave me a guided injection right to the correct area of my spine that was preventing me from walking. I had the MRI and CAT scans done at Tower Radiology and had seen a prestigious back surgeon who said that operating would only make things worse and referred me to Dr. Sarria. That was 5 years ago, no problems since!! So here’s sending you positive thoughts for a full recovery 💖

We replaced our RV couch with a computer desk and a full back office chair. Now I can sit comfortable for hours without my butt hurting. Also, my desk provides for a full sized keyboard and mouse; and also a decent sized monitor. My fingers just don't work well with the smaller keyboards. Of course, it is an office chair with wheels; so I can move it around when I want to eat or watch TV.

If you need to have surgery, please ask the hospital where you are having surgery for permission to at least stay in their parking lot temporally. You’d be surprised if they might say yes, however, don’t expect to have full hookup. Dry camping at best. As for hospitals or doctors, it’s more safe to go to an academic center to seek expertise in specialized areas of medicine. Look for the closest medical school program.

So good to see you both upright! It is important to have an agreement that if one or the other is in pain or otherwise compromised let the other make decisions. We’ve learned this lesson for each other and helping others. When someone is in pain or in a compromised position they are not capable of making clear decisions. If they are saying it’s “elective” then you and the Doctor need to write a letter explaining why it’s not elective and Apeal the claim. I did this when my husband had emergency surgery. He was seen on a Friday by the surgeon and had back surgery on Monday and the insurance did the same thing to us. (He had a ruptured disc). Call your insurance and ask how to start the appeal process. It’s important to have the Dr write a letter for you. Good luck. Jackie

I'm happy to hear you're on the mend. As we age, we naturally have muscle loss, if we don't do resistance exercise everything will fall apart. I'm 57 and was diagnosed with a very rare form of blood cancer last year, and between that issue and not having insurance for well over 15 years, I saw so many doctors, and been for so many test, I've lost count. With that said, I have Blue Cross, Blue Shield through the ACA, or "Obamacare", and I'm so grateful for it. I've put out almost no money out of pocket, and my premiums are extremely low. I will keep my ACA when I go fulltime real soon, and next year start traveling the country. Only drawback is, if I need any major care, I need to come back to Florida, although I can seek emergency care anywhere in the country. I hope for your continued recovery.

Dr. was wrong, Brian had his microdisectomy done by a nuerosurgeon and walked out of the center that afternoon, pain free. Your nerves will take time to heal if they were not permanently injured. Go back to your Dr. it is the code you or they used. Ask them for the proper code to send to insurance this is not elective your insurance is wrong. If it's the medical office calling it elective then they are dead wrong. Our insurance from work took care of Brian's along with Tri-care picking up the rest as he was in the military at the time. He retired from Army in 2013. So glad you are feeling better!! Paul is a gem for taking care of you. Love it when we find men who really love us and take care of us when needed! It was 2 weeks before I could get in for surgery with a spine (orthopedic) surgeon. Immediately after surgery, the pain relief was incredible - I never needed any pain medication!. It took about 1 year for nerves to regenerate, so I felt "normal" again. I still have some residual numbness, but I can live with this!

Hi. I am watching your video and wanted to let you know I had disc surgery on my neck using Micro back in 1995. The procedure was fairly new and not too well received by the older Drs. Many things a have changed since then. My biggest long standing residue is my neck movement is just a little restricted. My surgery ended up removing the ruptured disc and replaced with a bone chip. Today’s process use nothing but metal rods. Yes it will take time for the nerve to get back to normal. I am now 75 and lead a life that works. My biggest medical issues are related to Agent Orange from spending a year in Vietnam back in 1968. Keep enjoying your “Exciting Times “. Our travels use the time share world to see the USA. Oh Liz, I am so glad to hear you are feeling better! As someone who has degenerative disc disease I so understand how painful it can be. You definitely found a surgeon who could take care of your issue and it sounds like you have a plan in place to take care of yourself going forward. Health insurance ...... what a challenge! In November 2013 I was part of a layoff after almost 35 years with my employer. I needed to have back surgery before looking for another job. I bought a very good plan on the health insurance website as it was better and cheaper coverage than my COBRA would have been. Right before I got approved for my back surgery, I ended up having a massive stroke. I was hospitalized for 2 weeks and then spent 3.5months in different rehab facilities learning how to function again. My hospital bill alone was about $250,000. I'm not sure what all the rehab cost but all I can say is thank goodness for decent insurance because I didn't end up paying hardly anything out of pocket. Being disabled I now am on Medicare for my primary insurance even though I am only 59. If you are on social security disability you are required to take Medicare after a certain period of time. It has actually been very good but I also pay for a supplement. Every quarter I go in and receive multiple Botox injections in my arm to help deal with the muscle contractions I have in my hand. I looked at the bill from Blue Cross the other day and one series of those shots is $10,000. Obviously the insurance company doesn't pay that much for it but I can't imagine not having the coverage to be able to get these injections. Although they aren't absolutely necessary they definitely are a quality of life issue.
I am just so grateful that you are doing better Liz. I can only imagine how difficult it was for Paul to see you in such pain. You have always been so active between biking, running and hiking that it just seems unimaginable to see you sidelined like you were. I am so glad you are on the road to recovery and will be changing up some things in your rig for better back health. It makes me think I need to start doing some yoga and stretches and maybe that will help my back a little bit. Although I still need to have another surgery for a disc fusion at some point, the doctors aren't exactly excited about operating on me since I had a stroke already but time will tell if that is the right decision to move forward with.
Take care of Liz and Paul and we're glad to see you back online!

Wow. When they called to get my money (the day before surgery) they initially asked for $56,000. And quite matter of fact, too, I might add. I explained this was out-patient surgery and it went down to $5600 including everything. I sure feel lucky I did not have the in-patient procedure - no way I could afford THAT kind of dollars! I do think I will shop for a different plan, though.
And thanks for watching and commenting!

Please appeal the insurance decision because that's ridiculous. Thanks for the video, esp. the part of making sure you have a hefty emergency fund.

So thankful you are feeling better. Also thankful you have such a caring husband. You are so correct the Healthcare System is "Broken"! I had spinal surgery a year ago and hike 15 miles a week again. I walked just like you before the surgery. I was just thankful for a solution. I had a neurosurgeon and was in the hospital for 5 days. My cost with insurance was 12k. I had a wonderful doctor. One thing he said is that it can happen to anyone at anytime. I didn't do something to cause it. I often wondered did I carry my pack wrong. Did hike hike wrong. It was good to hear that no I didn't.

hi Ronna, that gives me hope that I can go hiking again. The surgeon says I will. So sorry you had to pay such a big chunk. Happy hiking to you!!!

    Liz and Paul,
I and many others we're worried about you and so glad you had a successful outcome. I suspected the delay was due to your surgery. I found myself checking in daily to see if you posted! I know you like to give the full truth on everything. Don't let the blame game start. You did nothing wrong! I find myself similar to you both with my injuries and mishaps... I lay in bed today nursing the second burn I gave myself from campfire stove. Maybe I will learn something yet! Good luck to you both and speedy recovery.

Hi Tracy! Please do ring the bell so you won't miss anything we happen to post on the community page. As we said in the video, we noticed a lot of people don't know about this. AND we are so sorry you got a campfire burn. Oh no! But it does sound like you are out and about living life and there's something to be said about that. Thanks for being with us through thick and thin!!!

Hi Liz & Paul, We watch & enjoy all of your videos. I wanted to let you know I had the same surgery as you in 2002. Micro L4/L5. My recovery was quick at the time with a follow-up epidural about 6 weeks later. The past 2 years, 2020 & December 2021, I've had several more epidurals and lots of physical rehab. Best of luck as you continue to recover and wish you all the best in 2022. Regards, Thom

Thank you so much Thom. Glad you got through it. The surgery really has been a life saver for me. I'm doing yoga daily and getting stronger each day. It's now been eight weeks since surgery. I still limp but that will probably go away. Wishing you and your back all the best!

Due to sciatica the bottom of both of my feet are numb and part of my left foot above the bottom is numb. Maybe an inch above the bottom. Thank someone in charge of pain, I am not in pain. Only numbness. Sometimes I suddenly get an attack and I can hardly walk for a couple days. I am so thankful I’m not as bad as I could have been. So happy you are doing better.

After multiple sciatic events back slipping I know the pain. Mine usually resolves in 3 weeks. Always from sitting too much. What I've learned is first thing out of bed in the morning is to start lightly twisting and stretching and do knee bends and leg swings while leaning on counter. Get that lower back activated and in place. Get the kinks out immediately when you stand. I Never bend down fast again if I know I didn't stretch and warm up my legs and lower back. Its been a game changer.

Wow Liz. Im so happy to see you improving. It’s wonderful to see you both again. It’s absolutely appalling that the insurance company could coldly state that your surgery was elective. I don’t know how they can sleep at night. God bless you both!!
