My first thought is “ who held him down “ cause it has to least two holding him down and one using the box cutter . This seems really weird to me .

The hell with teachable moments! The boy needed to go to jail! My son’s football team went to WV to play and experienced racism from the townsfolk when they went to a local restaurant. Called racial slurs and threats of having the dogs attack them. When their coach said the college in that town was offering a 80% off 4 years, I said hell no! My sons safety isn’t worth it.

I had to calm down before I commented about this video! I cannot see how the parents or the victim, can see what happened as any thing than what it was, an act of violence and hate! Why would the victim be suspended and not the perpetrator? The parents evidently do not understand that their son was a victim of a hate crime. If shoes were on the other foot, what do they think would have happened to their son! My God! Teachable moment's should not be used where violence is in play. And this was a hateful act of violence. Do the parents not understand how this act of hate and violence, affect their son probably for life? The college should have suspended the perpetrator once they had knowledge of this sad, hateful and violent act happened. Why in hell did the police just wash their hands and walk away from this act of violence? What the hell are these parents thinking when they, for all intents and purposes, also wash their hands and act as if, "when they go low, we go high" moment, should be seen as an opportunity to apply at this act of hate and violence, of their own son?! This shit makes me angry and sad at the same time it also makes me fearful for the coming generation of Blk college students who chose this college as there next step in furthering their education! Take about throwing hands and feet and everything else I could get my hands on would be my first go to act in using this as a teachable moment till I get arrested and booked for my own act of, hate and violence! This is their son, my God!!

This is beyond a teachable moment. The boy needs to be in jail. Whoever helped or stood by and did nothing needs to be facing jail time too. The victim needs the best medical care possible paid by the university to make sure he doesn’t have to look at his own body and see a hate crime. They also need to provide him mental health support.

This is beautifully written. I agree wholeheartedly on both stories.
    1) The necessity of college newspapers.
    2) Teachable moments allowing perpetrators & institutions to get off easy and the victim to bare the weight of turning the other cheek.
    Hmmph

This is ridiculous. Also why did they suspend the victim. I don’t like the minimization of the violence. This is so crazy they need to get all of the perpetrators involved and get those coaches out of there.

10:59 this is all that came to mind as I heard you read their statement. That part needs to be said out loud, OFTEN. To me, everything about it says “we just want this to go away and don’t want to cause problems”. That makes me so sad and angry I can’t even find the words to articulate it 😭😭🤬🤬

Is this for real? Are the parents for real? A violent racist attack on your child and the response is to talk about teachable moments? This leaves me questioning the event. i would would have demanded criminal charges as well as filed a civil lawsuit against both the perpetrator and the college.

Oh man, I had no idea they didn’t press charges. That’s a tough, and in my opinion weird decision.
“Teachable moment be damned”is ABSA_FCKN_LUTELY right!!
