My brain understands how easy this is, my hands seem to want to do the exact opposite of my brain though lol. DJ's like you make the art of turntabism look so basic. But when a person watching tries to actually do anything beyond a baby scratch that involves using the fader . You see real quick how looks can be decieving.
Yeah, that’s why I try to put extra emphasis on starting slow. It’s a matter of comprehension, coordination (of the hands), and practice, and that can take time for sure! Keep practicing👍🏾👍🏾
A piece of advice that I can share (i’m a beginner, so take this with a grain of salt): don’t think of these patterns in terms of “cut-chirp-cut, cut-chirp-cut-cut”. You will quickly overload your brain if you start thinking of all patterns in that way. And your pattern will sound “choppy” Look at TLMs record hand. All it’s doing is the same baby Scratch motion, in perfect time with the music. The only thing changing is at what point the fader opens or closes. Start with some baby scratches with the fader off, just to have the right speed. Start playing with the fader, get accustomed to what it should sound like, and build speed from there.
I know exactly how you feeling, I’ve been djing for a good 10 years now and can’t seem to get the fader motion. Now I’m off and on with hip hop music. I mostly mix Latin music but anyways this year that is my goal to achieve the basics.
Hi DJ TLM, you inspired me to become a DJ when I watched your baby scratch tutorial 8 years ago. I am a part-time EDM DJ now. You are a great mentor I must say. Such an emotional moment when I see your tutorial on Rev7 again. Thanks bro.
Fantastic! Looking forward to this series. I finished your beginner scratch lessons, and looking for some patterns just like this. Thanks for starting slow. Many other tutorials start way too fast for a beginner like me to follow.
Yeah, I noticed this as well. Most of the pattern tutorials I’ve seen were clearly not for beginners. They were very short and fast, and consisted of more complicated techniques. Of course, those are great for the more advanced DJs, but I want to focus more on the people who are still studying the basics
Assuming you are still in Amsterdam(?), are you doing any gigs on the 29th or 30th of April 2022? Heading over and would be ace to see you performing live 👊🏻
Yeah, I’m still here👍🏾 I can’t say anything about gigs because I have no idea. We’re currently on lockdown again, and when things open up again I don’t know how soon I can expect bookings
Hello DJ TLM, Thanks a ton for your videos and breakdown series, these are massively helpful who are starting their journey. Much appreciated! May I know what scratch sample you are using? It would be quite helpful, if you can share about the scratch sample used in the video description. I've seen few videos where you have shared the beat and scratch sample used. Thanks once again!
@@djTLMtv thanks for the reply 🙏 … no definite/ straight answer though lol… to conclude which one … so now the question is …then… which one is your most useful faster most authentic/ organic hand that could handle faster moves!? … according to your answer on this one… I will pay attention to your next and previous videos on the way you scratch and what side of the platter/deck looks more comfortable for you on my view and then depending on how many videos I see you using more one hand than the other and what type of video/ scratches this video is… then I would make out my own conclusions in the question I asked you 😆
Hi TLM, what effect does it have when you close the fader during the forward motion (especially in comparison to the "normal" baby scratch where you leave the fader open during the whole forward-backward motion)?
It sounds a lot sharper compared to a normal baby. You could also do a normal baby scratch in this pattern. That would be a simple variation that sounds a bit different (but is also dope)

@@djTLMtv ah man, hope things ease up for you soon - at least you are killing it on RUclips. I’ll keep my eyes peeled 👍🏻

Wait this is TLM from Brainpower - dansplaat?? :O
Yes, it is 😁
This is great bro big thanks for this man 👊🏾🤝🏾💪🏾
👍🏾
Thanks for the knowledge. How should my crossfader settings be set on my controller?
The sharpest curve would be best.
Hey brother, salute! … question 🙋♂️… do you use your dominant hand on the platter or on the fader!? … thanks in advance 🙏
It depends on the scratch. For some scratches I really need my left hand on the fader, but for others I must have my right hand on the fader 😁

Man do I need this deck 😩
It’s a beast
Hi. Are the stickers used for visual markers of where the beat begins? Just curious. Thanks :)
Yeah, with a controller like this one (with the motorized platters) you use the stickers in the same way as on vinyl
@@djTLMtv Ty!
What scratches are you doing as far as the order?
I’d probably call it “cut-chirp-cut cut-chirp-cut cut”
@@djTLMtv I’ll tell you what, it sounds good. Keep the videos coming please.
Falta una demo con un buen dj que haga scratch y beat juggling de nivel en la maquina para ver su rendimiento
Do a couple more
I’ll be doing a lot more👍🏾
