When you speak English, you sound far clearer than some of the English people I know. I had French teachers ad a kid whose accent was so strong, I struggled to understand their English words.
I speak spanish and with English languaje I get by , but the french is another demanding and complex language however, I´m still love learning french .

There is no pronunciation between "la mer" and "la mère". I don't know who told you that. The context is the only way you can know wheather it's "la mer" or "la mère".

Beatrice Lee You are correct these two words "ville" et "village" are rare exceptions in french in which we rather pronouce the double L like a single L ; ) There is nothing to do but learn more vocabulary to know how you should pronounce the double L even if in major cases we pronounce it like in "fille" Though beware , there must have an i before the two Ls otherwise we pronounce it like the single L like in "salle" or "bulle" : )
