  • When the Bulls played the Cavaliers in the 1993 playoffs and Cleveland guard Gerald Wilkins was asked about his ability to guard Jordan, Wilkins always pointed out that nobody could shut Jordan down, but he had been somewhat effective against him.

actually lebron and kobe are two of the few players in todays league that would thrive in the 80s and 90s kobe has a smooth jumper and a sick mid range game.. and lebron has passing ability and actually does get physical if you've ever watched him against tough defensive teams in the playoffs

can people stop putting lebron in the same catergory or even the same conversation as mj, lebron is a brilliant SMALL FORWARD different position to mj its silly. like comparing shaq and steve nash. and of course mj is better than lebron. if there is going to be a comaprison then compare jordon to kobe same position. i still think mj just edges kobe due to more rings and higher nba all time scorer, kobe is just behind him on that list though. the closest thing we have had since jordan is kobe lets face facts, and the aspect of pure basketball skills i think kobe was better technically with the basketball, but jordan was better defensivley and no one could ever fly to the rim like him

    • @5priteTV

To say that Kobe was better technicaly, sound as joke for me!!! Kobe is a great player, but it's unserious to compare someone with Michael. You must notice that Kobe have copy/paste most of MJ's move ;)

so you wouldnt say that kobe had a greater repitoure of moves to jordan? i think kobe was the better pure shooter and the better passer (when he felt like passing) i do think jordan is the greatest over kobe but they deserve to be in the same conversation surely? and yeah of course he did but tellme who had a better turning fadaway? of course kobe even though jordan originated it

blind5182 - Don't be silly, that time off wasn't Jordan's idea. The gambling bubble covering him was just coming to a head and the way his father was whacked? The league "granted him a vacation" and the fact that Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf also owned the White Sox helped facilitate this maneuver.

LeBron is bigger in size of coz, but prime MJ? he's much tougher and stronger. proof? just see the defense.. see how physical the game was. look at all the handchecking and how they use their elbows and arms.. mj was dominating in that era with all the crazy stats.
Magic confirmed he's the goat and Bird said he's the god. End of story!

  • @vengkong8344
    @vengkong8344 9 лет назад +48

Lmao Jordan always knew how to attack a defense. Fundamentals are so lost in today's game that why it's so hard to watch. The NBA use to be a game where guys KNEW how to play both sides of the court. Players today are just coming in to young and are not fundamentally ready to endure the aspects of an NBA game. Look at Dwight Howard for example, he has been in the league for 11 years and still has no POST game. He is as big, strong, and athletic as anyone would want in a center, yet in 11+years he has not developed into the player he could be. Dwight Howard alone proves that being big, strong, and athletic doesn't mean jack in the NBA, you still need to know how to PLAY the game. I think Lebron can be one of the greatest players ever, but he lacks a post game as well. He can go to the hole like no other, but if he had a consistent post game and jumper he could be off the charts good. Could have listed off more examples, but I wanted to keep this as short as possible. Agree or Disagree?

    • @boogieloo1831
      @boogieloo1831 7 лет назад +1

It's the defensive rule changes - changes like that have lasting impact on a game that go far beyond "no handchecking". Teams and coaches have learned to take advantage of those changes in every way possible. For example, today you have no need to play with your back to the basket both on the perimeter and to a lesser degree in the post. And so no need for post up moves. And with the league going Moreyball, these changes have ushered in this little guard driving the lane, collapsing defense and dishing to 3 point shooters only style of play - like you, in my mind, eliminating all the other areas of the game especially on defense has hurt the NBA and basketball in general. Kids not only suffer from no college but even at the AAU and even sometimes high school level - they are simply not taught everything like 20 years ago.

The media had run with the name, and Wilkins had promoted himself as the guy who would keep Michael's numbers down when they played. Clearly, it fired Mike up...and the rest is history.

As a couple folks pointed out, the key difference between LBJ and Jordan is LBJ can be shut down. The Celtics proved that in the '08 East Finals. The Warriors proved he can be guarded one on one in this year's finals.
Like a few folks said already, people were TERRIFIED to guard Jordan and THAT's what makes him the GOAT. Even without stepping on the court, his rep alone unnerved alot of people. THAT is the difference between him and LBJ: You get on the court with Jordan and your mind instantly goes to "What's he gonna do?"
Jordan can tell that much from the guy defending him at a glance. LBJ, not so much. In LBJ's case it's "What do I counter him with?"

+Brendan Aurabolt Man The Warrior knew the ball was going to Lebron so they based they're defence around Lebron. You should know that. I Jordans era no team could afford the benefit of switching theyre whole defence arpound Jordan because they whole team could score. Lebron had no team when he played The Celtic in Finals in08 and he definitely didn't have a team when they faced The Warriors in the Finals last season. Do you know anything about basketball guy? Dayum. I know you got on glasses but Stevie Wonder can see that.

+Kwame El-Bey Blinkered.....absolutely blinkered, so what you are inferring maybe without realising it is that all the players playing with Lebron are not as good as the players Jordan played with. You are also essentially saying players today in general are not as good as they used to be in Jordans day.... then saying this is why the Warriors could shut down Lebron as they could go for "just him"... but if you read between the lines here your argument goes like this... "players today arnt as good as they used to be, Lebron is better than Jordan because a team had to shut him out to win the Finals...they couldn't do that in Jordans day".... the flip side of that is "Michael Jordan isnt better than Lebron and I will prove this by saying Michael played with and against better players than Lebron plays with today and he dominated at that time...."... which defeats your own argument and proves what you said makes no sense at all. You might as well just delete your comment.

The problem with Kobe is that he copies 90% from MJ. Other players only copy aspects of others players and use it to their advantage, which is fine but the fact that Kobe is literally copying all his moves and mannerisms just pisses me off. If you are to be a good basketball player, please at least be a unique and not a bad copy of someone else... :/

I understand you're trying to be right here, but comparing directly Wilt Chamberlain to Michael Jordan is near impossible. The numbers on either side won't tell you much, different eras with different rules, spread, average height and the players even play different positions.
The impact on the game can transcend time, and both had a huge impact, although bringing the NBA into mainstream media and popular appeal, I'd have to go with Jordan. As for players at his position that were outstanding, Wilt certainly had several great players of that era to compete with, with the most obvious being Bill Russel. Michael had his Russel in Joe Dumars, and it can be argued that the 80's and 90's era defenses were much more hard nosed and difficult to manage and navigate.
I am also a massive Wilt fan, but possibly more so a Jordan fan. Being a fan of either doesn't blind me to seeing the greatness in each, without trying to diminish one or the other. Trying to say Jordan was weak because he wasn't as strong as Wilt is a pretty major stretch, the man is 6'6", weighed 210-225 lbs and worked out intensely both during and after the season. I am unsure why you'd think this was a great point to try and make, just seems silly.
Certain things that Wilt was able to achieve in his era would be fundamentally impossible in Jordan's, such as averaging 50 points a game, or 25+ rebounds a game. Every single possession went through Wilt Chamberlain's hands, and he was a ball stopper on more than 75% of those possessions. Yes, he averaged high assists a few years, but when you touch the ball 70+ times a game, and are literally the only scoring option, being double and triple teamed creates openings for your teammates. The truth is, if Wilt would have been of the "pass first" mentality, he could have averaged 20+ assists per game, under his circumstances.
Were I to choose a first, second and third all-time teams, these would be my starting 5 for each:
First team: This team has it all, the 2 best defensive players, 2 best passers, the best shooter, 3 best scorers at their respective positions. The best basketball sense that has ever stepped on the court is on this team. If this team was playing pickup ball at Rucker, or the starting 5 in the NBA finals, the outcome would be the same.
      C- Wilt Chamberlain - 30/15/5/3/3
      PF- Hakeem Olajuwan - 20/15/5/5/5
      SF- Larry Bird - 20/10/10/5/1
      SG- Michael Jordan - 35/8/8/3/2
      PG- Magic Johnson - 15/10/15/3/2
Second Team: Of the three teams, this is the one that could last an entire season together, win 95% of the games, defend against other greats, and really demonstrate how to play the game at the highest level, unselfishly, and simply win, every night. It would be a pleasure to watch basketball be played by this team.
      C- Shaquille O'Neal - 35/15/5/2/5
      PF- Tim Duncan - 20/15/10/3/5
      SF- Lebron James - 30/10/12/5/3
      SG- Oscar Robertson - 25/12/12/5/2
      PG- John Stockton - 15/5/20/8/1
Third Team: This team would have major issues with ball sharing, and would be decidedly weaker on defense than the other two teams. That said, these are some of the most tenacious players that have ever played in the NBA, and outside the other two teams mentioned here, little would stop them on any given night from a victory.
      C- Lew Alcindor/Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - 25/12/5/2/5
      PF- Charles Barkley - 20/15/5/3/3
      SF- Julius Erving - 20/8/5/5/5
      SG- Kobe Bryant - 35/8/6/6/3
      PG- Allen Iverson - 30/6/12/6/1
      (numbers after names are: Points/Rebounds/Assists/Steals/Blocks)
With the following players able to be put in, based on subjectivity-
      Jerry West
      Karl Malone
      Jason Kidd
      Bill Russel
      Moses Malone
      Bob Cousy
      Gary Payton
      Isaiah Thomas
Anyway, try to be a little more objective, you guys sound like there's only one right answer in this sometimes.. and it's all just speculative fun!

It's so comically inaccurate when I hear NBA analysts on ESPN claim Kobe is the better shooter. MJ is one of the greatest shooters that has ever lived in my opinion. For those old enough to remember, opposing coaches often criticized Jordan (1995-1998) for only shooting jumpers... claiming that he lost his athleticism, and he shot 50%. Kobe - mid 40s. End of discussion.

I've read a lot of dumb shit on these boards but "kibe is arguably a better shooter", really? Career marks - Kobe is under 46 percent , Jordan was at 50 percent. So no, he wasn't. So that's one, then "Kobe was more fundamentally sound. Not really. Jordan had superior footwork, was the better shooter, averages less turnovers per game, was superior defensively, and averaged more points, rebounds and assists over his career. None of you have any clue what you're talking about.

    • @gatormark
      @gatormark 10 лет назад +2

***** look at Kobe and MJ's 3 point shooting percentage for the CAREER. It is almost identical. Granted, Kobe took more 3 point shots...but the difference is only .008 in favor of Kobe. NOW, if you look at career playoff 3 point percentage, Jordan is BETTER.

Lebron is not and probably will never be as fast as MJ. And MJ doesn't have the assists Lebron has because he didn't want to be the facilitator as much as Lebron. MJ wanted to score because that's what he does. Greatest of all time MJ23

Jordan was still able to score 50 when he was 40. Jordan gets guarded by Xavier Mcdaniel,Rodman,Oakley and a lot of good centers like Olawjuwon. cmon now, really?! those guys are small for you and not athletic enough? jajaja! Remembering this so well shows my age I guess. But I can remember, in the hype leading up to this series, Dominique's little brother Gerald Wilkins was being called the "Jordan Stopper" in the national media. I'm sure he didn't want to be called that, because he had to actually step in on the court against him and back it up. Jordan torched him all series long, which ended in a game 4 buzzer beater on "The Jordan Stopper" to move on to the next round. Jordan always tried to prove a point in game ones of a playoff series to set a tone. He did so in this series.
