Let me correct some specs here.
It has solid Engelman spruce top with solid Indian rosewood back and sides. The fretboard and bridge are made out of ebony with abalone inlays.
IT IS NOT a dreadnought size, it’s bigger than a Dread, and according to Yamaha it’s a Original Jumbo.
Its a dread.... yamaha call it a "modified dreadnaught". Fits in a normal dread hardcase.
I love that guitar; it’s crisp and lively sounding instrument with a very affordable price.
beautiful sound! I've been considering a high end Yamaha. What was that lovely song you were picking at 8:07? It was really nice.
Very nice demo. I like that you stayed with certain patterns that allow the listener to catch the nuances. Thanks.
yamaha ll16are and fg720 here.. I wouldn't get rid of them for nothing in the world!!
Nice!
Exactly the same acoustics that I have...
@@joemckinney489 I wanna buy your LL16
A little old, but have a permanent desire to do this or die trying, AND since I just bought this same guitar the LL16RLHC Lefty of course, and I'm hearing the tone quality of the sound and then the looks, I feel really comfortable that I can and will be taught. I love picking and anything but Jazz. Just no taste for it. But all else is fair game, especially since I can and will be mastering guitaring. I just hope my unit will sound this well!!!!!!!!
+William Steber Let me know!
This sounds amazing. Great playing! I've played Yamaha acoustics a few times and I've been bowled over by the sound and playability. They're great guitars. Even some of the cheaper models are really killer
Thank you so much for the kind words!. Yes, the first guitar that I purchased in Nashville was a Yamaha. I have always lovde their products and they seem to be very consistent.
I am Looking at getting the Yamaha LL16 D. I think it sounds just beautiful.
Good choice!
Back and sides are Solid Rosewood!!!
Yes
Hi Erich, thanks for guitar review, it sound very good! Could you please tell which two songs you were finger-picking, both melodies sound great. I think first starts in 7.37 and the second 8.08.
I just bought one of these sight unseen online for $AU850, which is a damn good buy here in Australia. Then I saw this review pop up on my feed. I'm a big fan of Erich through UGS so I rate his opinion highly.
Thank you, Adam 🤗🙏. Yamaha makes some great guitars.
@@yourguitarsage My pleasure Erich. UGS is awesome. My 'gold standard' for many years was a MIJ Yamaha L-5. Handmade in the late 70s. I still have it and it's still a lovely guitar. ❤
Bought my LL16D sunburst for $850 Australian also. Totally love it. Also my FG5.
@@gregorymchutchison1878 that's a great deal.
@@kanyinak great deal Adam. FG5 was a bit more expensive but a gun of a guitar. These are great guitars, wish I had tried them a lot earlier.👌
I have the ll16 without the pickup. The L series by handbuilt acoustics are phenomenal. Thanks for reviewing.
Nice! Sure thing my friend!
I didn't know they made them without the pickup. I have an ls16 and have honestly never plugged it in; don't really have a need for. Since I plan on never selling it, I'm thinking about removing the pickup and adding a nice end pin. I love the maple strip around that area and just think it would look even nicer (since I don't use the pup). These are indeed special guitars! Especially when you put some better strings on.
hi, thx for doing this wonderful review on the guitar i always wanted to get, but does RHC mean it is different from ll16 or ll16m?
You are so welcome my friend! I'm not sure of the differenece between the two. I would check out Yamaha.com as I'm sure they have it spelled out there.
The r stands for rosewood and THC stands for hard shell case difference between the r and the m is Rosemary and mahogany on the ll16 different back and sides outstanding guitar highly recommended Robert
Great video, great guitar. I would love it if you did a lesson on the first song you played, I know there are other videos, but I love the way you play it most, because the picking pattern is way more fluent and nice.
Thanks Erich, really like how you show the acoustic and plugged in sound with finger picking and strumming. Great review....
Thumper Texoma Glad ya liked it Thumper. Appreciate the comment. e:)
Are you playing any specific song at 6:55 and 7:50? If so what are they?
Great video!
Thx for the demo (long time ago)....you totally were not repaired to review that guitar..."rosewood???" but thats cool...you must get tons of stuff to review... Gotta get the videos out!
Repaired equals prepared? Yes, Rosewood sides and back. Pretty sure that was correct. 👍 or so that’s what Yamaha told me.
Hi Eric
I have this model
Great sound & demo
Thanks for posting ✌🏼🏴
🤗👍
A all solid acoustic for $799?
What a guitar. Sounds 2 or 3 times the price.
I played this next to a high end Martin and it's unbelievable.
Hi. I checked out your review. Good one. I am trying to figure out the last tune you played. I just started finger picking, and I can't get that sound. Can you help me out, lol. thx
You and the guitar sound great...Beautiful version of Kids, sounds like a good future lesson! Many thanks Erich!
Kevin Steinley You are so very welcome Kevin. Please, stay in touch. e:)
Seems like a very versatile guitar. Kinda all around good guitar.
Indeed! Yamaha is consistent.
Amazing coincidence, YGS. I was in a local Guitar Center today and they had an LL16 on sale for $640. The guy there said they just don't sell very well. It looks identical to yours, I think it is most likely the same model. I went there specifically to look at several models, that was one of them. I was just about to ask the salesman to get it down off the hook, when another guy beats me to the punch. I figure this guy will probably get it and I won't even get the give it a play, Fortunately, he put it back in favor of some of the more expensive guitars.
When I came home I saw your review and agree with everything you said about the guitar. I already have a couple of acoustics that cost 3-4 times as much. They may sound a somewhat better overall, but not 3-4 times better. For the price you would be hard pressed to find a better quality instrument. I already have an Epiphone Masterbilt and this is basically a replacement for that, as I have run into some serious issues with that guitar over the past year or so. Hopefully this one holds up better than the Epiphone. My first guitar was also a Yamaha that I bought in 1980. It was still perfectly playable after being pretty much stored in the case for over 30 years. The neck and body still looked like new.
joeherrjr I appreciate you comments and review Joe. Thank you for sharing and keep on rockin! e :)
NICE sound. which sounds better apx1000 or LL16 BRS/ARE?
I have an older LLX6 from Taiwan. It's immaculate.
Nice, good tone?
Yeah. It's loud. The tone is balanced and round. It has a long sustain. I'm really happy with it. It's better than many guitars that would cost twice as much.
+pilgrimMj yes, I'm selling mine because I have enough guitars at this point but it truly is magnificent.
you mentioned that there aren't a lot of acoustic guitars that you love so what are some of the ones that you love
hey! its a very nice guitar. can i know the price?
I don't know for sure any more. I think I mentioned in the video. I think it sells for $799.
Could you tell me what the HC stands for I’m unable to find this model 👍
forget the hc its the LL 16 are
i have a CPX700II. sound great !
+Tannant65 Nice! Great guitars.
What song did u play from the beginning? I really like it!
Bit late but it's MGMT kIds
Please tell me if you record LL16 sound in the sound card line, there is no passive pickup and equalizer in the guitar, ie nothing can be changed, only on PC or mixer, does it work well, is it better fgx830 c with active pickup?
How would you compare the neck profile to a Taylor or a Martin Performing artist series? I prevent the slimmer profile - also, what gauge strings were you using? Thanks!
Glenn Stern Hey Glenn... I have the mahogany version of this guitar. While it has a great neck, it is vastly different from a Martin and a Taylor. The neck is more of a thicker "D" profile in my opinion, which attracted me even more to the guitar because I like larger necks. It's not a huge/bat/50's type of neck, but it's larger than Martin's and Taylor's neck. Though, still very comfortable and I love it. Along with the great woods, the neck was one of the big selling points for me. Now, the only thing I suggest is making sure you get a good one. I went through 2 of these before I landed on one that was good. The problem was with the neck pitch. The action was so high on the first two I would have had to bring the saddle down (and I did) and eventually (soon rather than much later) need a neck reset. The value, the workmanship and everything on this guitar blew my mind, even though I am a Yamaha fan. What you're getting for the price is crazy. As far as the pickup, I'd toss it out in my opinion. But that's ok. When Erich demo'd the pickup he also included sound from the mic... just one thing to keep in mind. Great guitar and this is a great review!
+Ronnie Williams thank you for fielding that one Ronnie :-)
They'd be medium strings unless he changed then out off camera or something.
The Yamaha L series are fantastic guitars. I played an LL16 at Sweetwater a few weeks ago and it was as awesome as the one you played. I compared it to a $3000 Taylor and it sounded better. Richer tone and better sustain. I went back to buy one but of course they had sold the one I played, which was a demo....however they did have a LL16D...very pretty and sounded just as good of course. It was also a demo and they made me a great deal on it. It sounds better than the Martin I used to own...go get ya one...youll be happy ya did....great review
+Dale Noneofyourbusiness Thank you Dale!
"There's not a lot of acoustic guitars I personally love." I am curious how you compare the Yamaha to your J200.
This guitar sounds remarkable. To me, it sounds as good as my Gibson.
I have a question what is the difference between a hard bag (which is included LS16M) and the hard shell case included in this unboxing? Are they the same thing, or is the hard bag referring to a soft shell case?
At some point Yamaha stopped including hard cases.
Awesome video my friend Andreas Really nice Yamaha Guitar¡¡¡, Super big thumbs up¡¡¡¡, have a nice Weekend and greetings from Spain: Javier
***** Glad ya liked it Javier. It is a beauty! Hope you also have weather for the first weekend of May :) Andreas
It would help if you did your homework before filming! The LL16/26/36/56 are all solid wood guitars with Englemann spruce tops.
The LL16 is manufactured in a shop in China under Japanese luthiers. They are outstanding although the nut and saddle are urea, which is man-made with great bass but a bit brighter than bone (to me) with a lot of punch. The 26 series and above are made in Japan with bone nuts and saddles. The LL16 us a jumbo, wider than a dreadnaught.
I have the LL16D which I got used with Tusq n&s. It sounds great.
I also got the FG3 and am keeping the urea because it is already voiced as dark and warm. It sustains for days...lol. it is a true dreadnaught.
On both I installed horn pins.
That is my taste. And for what you save you can certainly save your old components if you wish to experiment.
Yep. Anyone can make these "comedy" reviews with no basis in fact, like 90% of the comment sections on guitar related subjects on the interwebs
soundwise compared to the fg830 is this worth the extra 800 bucks ? or am I better off with a Martin d15m
It's one year later but I just have to add something else, even though you probably already made your choice. You threw the d15m out as another one of your considerations... that is a very different guitar. With the mahogany top it's going to respond and sound quite different than either a FG or an LL16
Wouldn't the truss rod fix any neck warping problem?
I've tried a few of these (and I love old Yamaha guitars) and these does not sound old wood for squat.. they actually sound rather constipated.
Wait what? Pretty sure the 16 series is all solid woods. Is this an LL6 or really an LL16? Thanks.
LL16
Then it's all solid woods. Nice!
+Norman Zealand Malana indeed!
LL16 is all solid I belive~ LL6 is solid top
Could be! Somebody else just mentioned that as well.
LL is all solid. Just one L is solid top only
Beautiful!
Very nice!!! I would love to hear you play , diary of a madman, and Dee ,by Randy Rhoads :)
I play diary of a madman at least once a week :-). Used to know Dee at one point when I was a young lad.
PS a Yamaha L53 custom will set you back between £50.000 -£60.000 pounds mate. Top class. The best ..
I’ve played Martin guitars that were quarter of $1 million. They sound and play great. But not a quarter of $1 million great.
Its an LL56 I think you refer to, and although they only make them to order, I believe the price you quoted is ridiculously high. They ARE high end though, along with LL26, LL36 and I would love to own one, even though Im nowhere near a good player.
is there a yamaha of similar size to the big baby? I've wanted to get something slightly smaller than dreadnought, but bigger than 3/4. any recs?
L6 is smaller
L6 is a dread, the same as this. The LJ is a jumbo, the LS16 is a smaller body guitar. So much misinformation on these. The LL models are dreadnaughts. Yamaha call it a "modified dreadnaught" for some reason. They have a rounded lower bout, which may be why the confusion, but mine fits loosely in all my dreadnaught hard cases and is the same size as my FG820 dread.
what about the pick up for small gigs, going through say a boss l1 pa?
That's for sure what they're there for. That should sound nice.
What was that first song? it was so pretty
Kids by MGMT
Cool thank you
+Brian Kabala Music :-)
+Tyler Fields :-)
Sounds fantastic!
gildedcabbage Thank you glidecabbage! e:)
What is the price of this guitar? What kind of braces does it have?
How do you think it compares with entry level Martins, DX1RAE or DRS2 maybe? thanks!
Have not tried those my friend. So many guitars anymore.
The saddle is not compensated??
What song is the first one you play?
MGMT/kids
Try a yammy L53 custom if you can? then you can talk acoustics guitars mate ..
I have a Gibson SG 200 which is known as the king of the flat tops. Yamahas are good for the money.
can anyone plz tell me what the first time he played was?
Whats the song at the end?
Street Spirit By Radiohead
What are the e strings action? 3rd fret and 12th fret ?
They should be playable
LL26〜Made in Japan👍
Most of the acoustic guitar pick ups I ever here are really artificial sounding. If the quality of that particular pick up can be believe through my iPhone, and that is one of the cleanest sounding acoustic pick ups I've ever heard
What you're hearing is the microphone. I did not plug it in for this video.
But at 9:39 you said you plugged it through your board..
Yeah. Didn't hear the pick up direct. Though I think you intended to. Definitely not
Very good pickups in these in my opinion. But why he hits it so bloody hard while "strumming" I dont know. Ive watched so many "reviews" on this guitar, and have come to the conclusion that most who comment have no clue. Buy one or dont, I dont care, but mine is the nicest guitar I have ever heard or played. Except for maybe boucher or such hand crafted wonders. I played nearly all the extensive selection of acoustics in the acoustic room at my local, including the amerkan brands and Maton top line models and I bought the LL16 because it was, to me, the nicest guitar in the room.
Can you just give us a quick lesson on the 1:59 song? or a chart? tks
I have a video for that here on RUclips. Search your guitar Sage kids MGMT
very nice ty
Hey Erich! Nice guitar bro, CONGRATS! Enjoy!
Thanks for sharing the info man, Thumbs up!~~John
WORRO01 Glad ya liked it John. Appreciate the good word. Hope all well with you! e:)
Is rosewood solid or venier
Solid
Yes. Its all solid wood
What song did you played in 1:59?
It's Rianna and Eminem I think. "I like the way it hurts..."
@@kevinbley2659 No, it's MGMT "kids".
@@deanc2000 Yep. You're right. Don't know why I did not catch that. Cheers
Play King of the Road by Roger Miller with it; (hint, hint...guitar lesson)
Brent Holder :)
The song in the beginning, why can't I think of it?
I was just doodling on some chords there. Matchbox 20 style
why you're not just send the url link
2:00 whats the song called?
That song is called "Kids" by MGMT. He is playing a fingerstyle arrangement, though. Like this one ruclips.net/video/mMMLoCh-m-E/видео.html but without the capo on the 3rd fret. Have fun!
the song at 11:45... what is that song?
Radiohead, Street spirit(fade out)
+mindcrazer thank you my friend!
what were those songs you were playing?
Most made up. One was kids by MGMT and the other was street spirit by Radiohead.
Beautiful guitar man. Enjoy it!
jammingout Thank you my friend.! Rock on! e :)
I just found out that I really hate strumming. I don't mean me, its the sound itself, horrible to my ears, doesn't matter who plays it.
I'm just a spanish guitar guy who like fingering techniques ;)
Radiohead sounded amazing!
Paul Wilday Thank you Paul. e:)
The pick up sounds like mic
China Made guitar is getting better and better
I bought one Yamaha LL 16 D ARE from music store in Germany this guitar is not good it's tone is very metalic more bright i advise you to buy with same price an other guitar like Martin Taylor breedlove Gibson even bluebridge they sound little more warm than this Yamaha
You might've got a bad one. This guitar is remarkable sounding and I've owned a lot of acoustics.
+yourguitarsage I own LL16 for about 5-6 years, and tend to agree with Hassan, this guitar is overbuilt, and this muffles the tone, volume and resonance. I also own Blueridge BG-140 - and it's by far more resonant and warm than Yamaha. For price of Yamaha you can also get used Larrivee, and it's completely different level.
Don't be an angry because it leads to foolishness. The nut and saddle are urea, a man-made substance that is bright. You could easily install bone. You may need a setup to your specs. Also he is not using a quality microphone. Try JP Cormier who uses a top of the line microphone properly located.
What a fraud!! They are NEVER that easy to unbox. And Yamahas are always high action from the factory. I love these guitars but in my many years of experiencing unboxing new Yamahas they ALWAYS need a proper set-up. I truly think the guitar on the video was previously unboxed, setup and re boxed. Colin Watt.
Literally the worst review I've ever seen anywhere on anything.
i've heard more low end from a banjo!!
Bad “room” miking on my part. The guitar is very full. Not like my SJ200, but a super nice guitar.
It has nice low end; can’t you hear it? Maybe you need a bass guitar to please your taste.
