- Опубликовано: 13 июн 2017
- The Lhon Drokpas consist of 12 families of Tibetan yak herders settled in the upper reaches of the Lachen Valley where they have grazed their herds of yak and sheep along and across the Sikkim-Tibet border for generations.
Settled between the altitudes of 4,000 and 5,300 metres, they endure some of the harshest climatic and living conditions known to mankind. The film explores their present and past way of life on the Cold Desert of North Sikkim, and discusses their dilemmas and how they view their children’s future.

wow ! thank you so much. when I saw that guy i feel so sad, he is same as my grand father. He came from Tibet. This scenery is very nice. I believe our culture and religion are same very peaceful. I'am Tibetan but was born India. I heard our culture these activities from my late grand father. SAVE OUR CULTURE AND LANGUAGE! one day I want to visit to Sikkim and Bhutan as well.
Ani Yanky,
The poor Tibetan are caught within geopolitical struggles and are therefore separated within their traditional homeland. The Great Himalayan Plateau does not belong to any country. It is the home of the peaceful Tibetan people.
We pray for the freedom of Tibet may the sacred lands of Tibet be blessed with freedom
Gracias por compartir otras culturas muy lejanas, no se pueda visitar por la geografía y las distancia; pero con este documental uno puede enriquecerse de conocimientos. Saludos desde Quito- Ecuador Sur América.🤗🤗🤗
Splendid. No words can define how I enjoyed the video. Respect the Drokpa. Their life are full of hardships, but despite that they laugh more than we do, because they are closer to nature, and hence closer to God. Thank you for this enlightening video.
Well done Documentary - Thank u for not ruining with loud modern music!
Many thanks from Jaunpur UP India for this informative documentary.Really we salute these people for their survival existence and their hardship.
Rajendra: I have worked as a house keeper with Indian doctors. Indian people are also an example how humans should live, dedicated to their children and the children very respectful with their parents. From Las Vegas, Nv
Thank you to all those who are responsible for making this movie possible. Lovely to see the simple life style of these herders. Hard working content human beings. I hope more and more people from the west (esp USA) watch these sort of movies to help understand cultures from other parts of the world.
This is one of the best documentaries i have come across so far. I am really moved by the simple living of the Drokpas and the hard life they live.. Kudos to you guys for coming up with this documentary.

This is how I travel now, vicariously and continue to be enlightened as I age. Most interesting, I began feeling sorry for them then realized with their singing, and laughter, they were every bit as happy as myself.

Same for me! I watch them all day too.... because I think in my mid 70s I’ve stopped traveling! For decades I went to India, Ladakh or Sikkim every year. Aloha from Hawaii.
A remarkable ethnographical narration thank you very much.
What a precious document, thank you very much ❤️
Beautiful. Thank you for showing the other side of Denzong.
Beautifully done. The hard struggle in the material world.
Very beautifully pictured
Memorable documentary films on Drokpas revealing their hardships n struggles in life is really appreciated and thankfully for all associated in filming this videos..
Beautifully narrated. Covered all aspects of future of this profession. I personally have been to many places shown in the documentary and know many of the people shown. Apart from the scenic view the question to ask is also the sustainability of this tribe. Life is extreme and with no help coming from any authorities the future seems deem as clearly no younger generation will be filling up these great legends. Sadly there is not even good survey held for number of yaks and sheeps. Awareness is the call for the moment but solution is not easy..
Sikkim Govt should recognise and support their distinct lifestyle Serving as Point of uniqueness !
This is such a well-made documentary. Thoroughly enjoyed it
Thanks love it ... so peaceful , like drokpa
I love you North Sikkim I will be back soon❤
Fantástico
Waaaw thank you such great document, I love them they are thankful ND happy. Don't care about about money, cars, fancy houses :he said just they asked for less diseases :healthy and more food that all (request done during annually celebration).Drokpa
Having visited a Drokpa village in Sikkim in 2001 for documentation (listing of heritage sites) for INTACH, I am thrilled to see this video. Great documentation, and a wonderful film. I visited the village up beyond Thangu prior to the snows closing the pass, and the trek to the village was quite arduous. Well done to all of you. If there is more information related to this research, please share...
👌👏👏👏😍they are hard working and wonderful prople!
I enjoyed the documentary, It would be better if the Sikkimese government keep priority to these people for feasible access to withstand.
Better than a National Geographic , BBC or PBS doc! The questions asked by the “anthropologist” were perfect. Documenting a clearly dying way of life at the cusp of their disappearance is very important. Climate change, Chinese aggression, the lure of the ‘easier’ life in the cities are dooming this ancient lifestyle. Once gone, how will these people know who they are? Hope, I guess, is in the future of the city educated children... unless they just drink and ramble around!
Great documetary of this unknow and magic land of Himalaya. I wish you can make more stories. Thanks for sharing
I very much enjoyed your film. They have a difficult work to do but seem to be happy.
what an interesting video. The yak cheese seems to take hours to churn, but looks like it is good and so is the butter. Everyone seems to work hard women and men, working together to get things done. God Bless them in the high altitude where they live . thanks
Charlotte Schreffler Yak is the male, female Yak is called Dzo. "Yak cheese" has somewhat been popularised by Nepalese who are alien to these Tibetan terminology
Buddha blesses these good hardworking people
Excellent documentary, make more such documentaries on Sikkim. Greetings from Andrapradesh.

How I would like to place our BRITISH girls in these places, and some of our men, cleanse them of drugs alcohol, and debauchery ,,these people are wonderful examples of humanity
A people rich in love, generosity, sharing, caring .... HAPPY!
In all countries where we are having problems with our youth, the governments should make agreements to pay them for receiving our stupid, ungrateful, lazy young people . I bet they would come completely changed FOR LIFE! and the money should be used to improve the lives of these great people.
Good documentary.keep it up.
Nice video
I love it
Thank you ! : )
I think they are absolutely fascinating and wonderful people!! Bless Them ❤️. And if you don’t have butter 🧈 after the 700th or 800th churn, STOP 🛑 CHURNING & STOP SINGING! 😃😄 Such a lovely sense of humor, just fine people altogether!! ❤️

i lik this video
Sir I have one question that why Drokpas move to high altitude area in winters while these areas are extreme cold desert.
It is just a marvelous & wonderful video. I love that pure life. Is it possible to translate all video in Hindi please. Love you all.
Humanity should let this pure humanly form of Survival lifestyle to sustain, in the interest of everyone.
Amazing video. What a way to live a life. Unfortunately this kind of centuries old cultures are dying out. But confused towards the end In winter moving to higher altitude and in summer lower altitude. Generally it is the other way round. Wondering what could be the reason.
It is explained in the begining. They used to take the animals down in winter in Tibet, and up to Sikkim in summer. After the border closed in 1962, they were forced to stay in Sikkim and adapt their migration pattern. Since they could not go further down in winter in Sikkim because of agriculture and private land, they reversed the migration. They go up in winter, and the yak survive because the wind exposes grass on hill tops. They have to be fed a special mixture (explained in the film) when the snow is too heavy to be blown away
Thanks got it.
BORN FREE - free as the wind blows ,envied them free as the grass grow,it's heaven
Free Tibet!
It's late already
Nice vdo I want visit
Beautiful place. I believe no stress and no disease. May be. I ll visit here one day to see different culuture.i ever try their cheese from my friend. So natural. But the men sit separate to women ?but anyway. They look so happy all times. I believe no mails either there.
I like the deal he makes with the sheep, in his song.
U don't need old wool, so take it.
When I release u, run like a shooting star.
As an African, it caught my attention.
You hear that kind of thing from the old people.
Nature(man , n beast) striking a right balance with itself.
Its not man torturing an animal .
We (man n animal) look out for each other.
There's harmony.
Love the video. Untouched by pollution and corruption.
You need to watch again if you didn't notice the pollution and corruption.

Nice video. Thank you for making and sharing. Curious to know why the Drogpas move North in the winter were its is colder, instead of moving South where its probably warmer.
I'm not expert...but I feel Tibetan cold dersert is drier and experience less snow than Himalayas... So there does exist a chance of finding more vegetation as compared to Himalayas.. specially gurudongmar tsolhamo region
And during summer months Tibetan plateaus experience extreme climate with warm -hot days and cold-chilly nights...compared to that Himalaya experiences a much favourable climate...
Thanks so much for your reply. Yes that would be true. I guess it is just the thought of it for us Americans lol😃
Horray for Army men. Compassionate and brave
Вот они простые человеческие радости.
люди нравятся
La vida es muy dura ellos ...y así tratan a los animales ...no los quieren son brutales ..el video muy bueno !!!!
Mikkis (Prof.author KIm Jung-Min siad in the ancient it can be read from the end or front among the letter creators. Mikki means prey to catch fishes, to attract/call monks, young people, or Janssikka(bear little people children) in pure Korean Sanskrit.
How can we go there from India; if any body know the road to this place, tell me please
Travel to Gurudongmar via Gangtok...u must have the permits from State dept... they are usually included with packaged tours
They have learned to survive during natural calamity. Can you?
Rupden: Comparing with these hardworking people, we, in the developed country are softies. Many years ago, our ancestors were also brave and hardworking. We need to do something to save our future generations.
Nice documents I was expecting to see huge dogs with them
If there is a God she would help these people.
