LMW asked the RIGHT question. As usually, beat round the bush without any direct answer.! I also want to know if there is any written commitment from Allianz to ensure NTUC income to remain a social enterprise.
Bless Leong for asking these questions on our behalf. Shame on Lim BH. Am frustrated with the high handed way that LBH communicates with us. Who's his backer at Temasek ? Pardon my ignorance but who really is this Alvin person ??? Is he qualified at all to answer Leong's question ?
I not sure how can could discern that what makes Leong so interesting and impressive and popular among opposition supporters is he questions in a way more natural to a Opposition leader in the same direction as JBJ founder of WP. It's more satisfying to hear a human question do directly. Other parties question well too but not the same style but more of a giving face to the ruling party kind of way. Of course we can understand it's for their survival reasons. But Leong can still improve if he speaks as well as Pritam who is lacking what Leong possess. So the two styles compliment the Opposition
It is clear Mr Alvin Tan is skirting the real issue. We are not questioning if NTUC had in the past fulfilled its social responsibilities. We are questioning if the sale to Allianz will jeopardise that. Oh my goodness. How can a Minister be so irresponsible.
Arguments made by the minister is not convincing at all? NE should continue to build NTUC income into a global insurance company. With the sale, we lose one more local indigenous company.
It is easier to merge than to grow a business into an international enterprise. I believe we have such talent but very few are looked at since entrepreneurial spirit are typically not scholars.
Most scholars are good administrators, they are rarely good entrepreneurs, simply because if you become a scholar you want to take less risks. Not wanting to take risk is not entrepreneurial.
OMG. Why we have ministers that don't answer the question? Can't they understand the concern that after the sale, there will be no more channels of obliged assistance to Singaporeans? LMW is not saying Income or NTUC has not helped but the other way around. Without Income as a State owned Company, where does the bottom line stay for a Foreign Owned company.
Alvin, nobody is accusing NTUC has not met its social obligations in the past. Mr Leong is asking if the sale was to succeed, what assurances can the Government provide that NI continue its social mission? You have totally not answered his questions and pretend that you know better. Very disappointing you are voted in as a MP. The folks who voted you in are complicit in putting Singapore, my beloved country in the wrong hands.
I am a commoner. I would like to thank Mr Leong because this is exactly how i feel about this matter. Not only that the fear that this may not just stop here. Will there be more such government good name estsblishments on the pipelines. Very unsettling.
Alvin did not answer the question. Success in the past on the social mission and helping workers should be the justification to continue own the NTUC Income and not selling it.
Mr Alvin Tan speak like he is the authority to the matter. But obviously none of the people’s concerns were addressed (Thanks to Mr Leong for articulating well for us citizens). Fast fwd to this week, the ‘leadership’ decision Mr Tan so violently argued for has seen an emergency brake and became a showstopper. Thanks for opposition MPs and ex- CEOs of NTUC income’s fervent statements and views finally it made the ruling party wake up. Imagine a world where own self check own self?1 😮

The people really have to elect LMW into the parliament in the coming GE. He is always sharp and ask the right question. Imagine if he was not qualified as NCMP. The parliament debate would not have heard voices from the streets. I am disappointed with WP. They better pull up their socks,
Like~minded ppl think alike like the pap mp. "Why sell?" ntuc income have so much money, why sell? Why not sell to GIC or Temasek? Is selling Christmas Island away the right thing to do?
@2:31 first i want to say that he really should listen to himself again...not even about listening to the people.... totally nothing addressed...reminded me of the days i did presentation during poly
If a company is not competing well and under financial pressure and , can it also mean that a company is not led by the right people ? So the easiest way out to sell the company (?) From what I've read in the news in the past, do not forget what happened to NOL when it was sold because it was not doing well, but the company (CMA CGM) who bought it started to make money after buying over. Is this true ? If so, why does this happened ? Was it because NOL was led by the wrong people ?
Ya, I wonder why he never say that? Social Enterprise by nature and in spirit is not purely for profit only. Also business sales go up and down. With the foundations and track record, Income Insurance will not be financially in trouble for at least the lifetimes of all existing policy holders
Perfect Opposition MP would be a Questioning Ability of Leong + English excellence of Pritam. Leong is good with language but we need a more lawyer type of English ability while WP lacks the Questioning ability of Leong which is obviously embodying the true spirit of Opposition aka Alternative MP
Who is the absolute Boss of NTUC Enterprise? Who is the absolute Boss or NTUC? Who is the Absolute Boss of NTUC Income? Who is the Absolute Boss of MAS? Are there different absolute bosses? Or is the Deal already a done deal?

Alvin tan points are contradicting . 1. He mentioned insurance business is long term, then, it would be more risk if ntuc insurance business controlled under foreign entity ? 2. He stated tell will tell ? But this statement implied hands off by govt, then PM wong should step in as this should be a strategic planning for our social mission and not wait till bad time comes.
Overall, I think having a foreign professional manage our insurer will result in better profitability and results for Singapore. Local people have generally not done well for companies - be it NOL, Temasek etc. Lots of inefficiencies.
