Hi tom .getting fed up with sky charging a fortune so bought myself a humax freesat box ..but my sky q cables 2 off .i put one into humax and no signal .do i need to change Lnb .cheers
Question from someone who knows nothing about satellites,; I have one to I want to watch freesat on. I'm not interested in recording programs. I have a quad LNB. Am I just using a single coax cable? Sounds stupid but are double coax for recording and/or more than one tv? Thanks 🤘
Smart Aerials thanks so much!!! I've spent ages flummoxed about this until it dawned on me that my freesat box only had one input! I'm one lunch break away from getting wired up. Absolutely love your channel by the way. Cheers again 🤘
Hi. I had sky q installed, and when I did they made some changes to my dish (probably even changed the whole dish), I am thinking of replacing the LNB on it to a hybrid one so that I can run 2 other cables to my other room for free sat whilst maintaining the sky q connection in another room. Have you done a video where you have changed the LNB on a sky q dish? Is it the same procedure for all dishes?
Sorry no video at the moment. I will do one though! Yes you want to purchase a Hybrid LNB and install onto your existing dish. This is a simple job, only needs a small headed screwdriver. Providing you can get access to the satellite dish that is. Tom
Might be a silly question, but i have a 4 LNB on a dish to rrun an old Sky box in my garage, but the white plastic capping has fell apart and fell off, what can i do to repairr it,can i get a new cover or can i just use Clingfilm to seal the end?cheers!!!
We recently upgraded from a sky plus box to sky q, but as our dish is on the top of our roof, sky were unable to go to the dish to change the LNB for a sky q one, and our dish has 4 cables coming off it, so they installed a box in the loft, it has the 4 cables going in one side, 2 cables coming out the other. What exactly does this box do with the signal, and how does it work? Your video mentions something about a different mode for sky q? I'm now finally able to record sky programs, as the old sky box did not allow recording without a subscription (freesat) only.
Hi, which would be the best LNB for my new 4K Freesat box? My old SKY + dish works, but I would like to upgrade it to a wide band LNB with 4 outlets. I will probably upgrade the mini dish to a 60cm one at the same time.
I have a lnb with 4 connectors on, just got thefreesat re ordable 4k tv box,its all working fine, but I want to put another cable in as the box takes 2 cables, but one of the connectors is stuck and wont come off,I can not use the other 2 connectors as they go to other rooms,I will try and get the connector off, but if I can not,I will replace the LNB of the same
@@smartaerials you cannot split a lnb output, there can only be one master. What will happen when 2 receivers are on a lnb, one asks the high band, the other the low band = problem. The second receiver can hitchhike on the selected band (1/4).
Hi Tom I’m pulling my hair out at the moment. I’ve refurbed my house with new cables and equipment, quad LNB feeds a triax 16 way multi switch picking up 8 shielded wall plates with two cables apiece. When I plug in my humax freesat pvr into one room I get 100% strength and 90% quality signal. If I move the freesat box to any another room I get no signal found. Am I missing something obvious?
Oh my days thank you. Just ditched sky and the satellite would not tune(other than itv) and I have been going insane as it has worked at our old house. Best get LNB shopping then. 👍
I have a quad lnb with no connection numbers and not in a line does it matter what wires i connect to which connections.it,s sort of a square box with spaced connections?
Hi Tom Thanks for the very helpful video I live in Guernsey where we have access to the same services as in the UK mostly. I have a network 4 tuner satellite receiver which works with Plex Server for recording and 9 TVs around the house. From watching your video I know that I need a quattro LNB & a 16 channel multiswitch. The longest run of cable would be less than 30m. I expect the cost of installation will far outweigh the cost of the kit so I'd prefer not to compromise on quality. Are there LNBs & Multiswitches that you'd recommend & could you ship them to Guernsey?
There are all sorts, the better ones have a lower noise figure. Some are high gain but these are only really suitable for long cable runs. To be honest most LNB's are pretty good now,
I’m a it confused by how to connect a dish up to two receivers with two tuners in each ,do I use 4 runs of cable with a quad lmb one the dish ?one cable for each tuner ,or can I use two splitters and two runs of cable of each spitter ,using only two main cables to the dish what’s the best way to install a single dish to two receivers pvr Humax free sat ?
Hi Stephen. No you can't use splitters I'm afraid. You can find more info here: www.smartaerials.co.uk/blog/why-cant-you-split-a-satellite-signal-cable Install a Quad LNB and run two separate cables to each PVR. (4 total)
Hi Ty, it's done in degrees. If your LNB has numbers I would check with the manufacture literature to see what this corresponds to. I hope this helps. Tom
I need to replace the white plastic part of the LNB on a sky/freesat mini dish. I think my LNB has got rain in it. I don't need the whole bracket, just the plastic disc bit. Looks like I can buy one for about £3 online. Are they easy to remove and replace?
@@smartaerials I expressed myself badly. I see LNB replacements on sale which include the arm. I don't need the arm, just the LNB (for Freesat). Are they easy to remove & replace? The dish has been up since I moved in in 2011. I presume that means it's a MK3?
Oh Ok, Yes they are easy to replace, should just be a case of unscrewing the old LNB and putting the new one in but you have to make sure that you set the skew correct. Most LNB's for Sky have a collar size of 38mm but some of the new ones are 40mm though so you may need an adpater. I advise just ordering the new LNB and seeing if it fits.

It does seem expensive to me for the part, but I advise that you check with installer about the price. There may be a legitimate reason or may have just sent the wrong amount by accident. It's common to mark up parts in our trade as there is a lot of dead time travelling between jobs. But £153 just for an Octo is very expensive.

We have a quad LNB on our static caravan. i have tried connecting our Sky Q box, however a signal cant be found. Do i need a Sky Q LNB
Yes because the Sky Q LNB is a wideband lnb, whereby the high and low bands are received together.

if you use quality cable (copper) easily 100 meters

Given the proximity of the sea, I'd like to have a fibreglass dish - what type/size/manufacturer would you recommend?
Hi Martin, sorry we don't sell the kit. I like Vision products so I would recommend their multi-switches and LNB's.
Depends on the satellite, but for English TV and your set up and Triax 65cm fibreglass dish would do the trick.

Yes that's correct. You may want to install a 16 way switch instead and 2 cables to each room so you can connect Sky+, Freesat+, satellite PVR boxes.
