There's a line that the actor is not supposed to cross during the scene they're doing so if they do, a part of them goes missing on camera. It's a brilliant illusion. I saw it back in Liv and Maddie. They explained it rather well.

Yeah. Hypergamy is Wild like that. She didn't give a damn about Urkel, until he no longer gave a damn about her. Until his attention was no longer on her, but on another woman. Then she missed the attention and validation she used to get from thirsty ass Steve. It turned her on that she now was the one to chase after his attention for once. She was used to it, and always took it for granted. Steve unintentionally increased his sexual market value, simply by not giving a fuck about her, and getting other woman lol. Having other woman on him caused Steve to seem more validated and special. Like a magnet, woman wanted to see what the big deal was all about. I actually thought that they did the Laura falls for Steve storyline very well. Laura couldn't see past the over enthusiasm and clumsiness to see their friendship for a very long time. Two things really influenced the change, Steve's relationship with Eddie and his relationship with Myra. When the Winslows started treating him like family and they both had their own relationships to focus on, their friendship blossomed. Starting the final season with the bachelor auction, Laura rescheduled Steve from embarrassment, because somehow Myra was not informed that the man she lusted after was on the auction block, Laura found out that they actually had chemistry. As the season progressed Steve made some slight adjustments, really minor, but was still as nerdy as can be, just slightly more put together. Now conflicts with Myra, who was beyond crazy for Steve, were more realistic as they both in love with the same man, not just one sided jealousy. The profession of love and the proposals featuring flashbacks were sweet but shift and change in my memory rewatching it years later. After actually taking the time to show interest in the things that Steve found joy, helped her see him in a different light and genuinely appreciate him. Her declaration of 'I don't want to live without you' was sincere and more than any us expected before the final season but felt well earned. They really grew up together and grew to love each other in a healthy sacrificial way! (Can you tell that I have watched the final season A LOT)
I will say how hypocritical laura was like she was seeing both guys dating both while in a committed relationship to see which one she liked better. Then later in the same episode or the one after saw steve kissing myra his ex and said steve how could you and ran out the room .... -_-
I recently watched an interview with Jaleel. He said portraying Steve for so many years damaged his vocal chords. He was dedicated to his art and the fact that he was paid handsomely wasn’t too bad either. Lol 😊
His acting was brilliant. I know in reality he's the same person but even side by side my mind cannot see anything but the two separate persons. It's mindboggling how he mastered the mannerisms to convincingly play himself and his alter ego

Women are equally deceptive and vulnerable as men. It's a vicious circle when we play those games. Laura had Steve's full adoration but spurned him repeatedly. Positive reciprocation can make a difference. She enjoyed the attention when it added a feather in her cap. Myra was better.
