The M16A1 has always been my favorite. Being full-auto is one of the reasons why it is my favorite, so it hurts my soul to see it depicted as a 3-round burst.
It's true! I forgot how much that happened. When I was capturing footage for the MW series I had to chill and feather my shots. It has SO much kick in full auto!
I mean technically modern warfare 2019 has an M16, you can change the barrel, body and stock to make it look exactly the same and even change it to a 3 round burst
You can basically have two different M16s in MW (2019). M16A3 without the burst, only full-auto and semi-auto, then the M16A4 with the burst mod and semi-auto firing modes.
@@JoZer805G well, a mock-up of one, anyway. The true M16A3 was just an A2 with full auto, so it wouldn't have a top rail or a railed handguard. There are full-auto M16A4s, but they're not called that. Colt's production number for the M16A4 is RO905, and the full auto equivalent is RO901.

The problem I have with the M16 is how they fit 30 rounds into a 20 round mag, and of course the M16 in BO1 is supposed to be full auto since the M16A2 or M16A4 did not come around that time

Imagine making a game in 2021 with one of the most well-funded studios and yet you have a 20 round magazine holding 30 or even 60 rounds. 2007 CoD 4 had the correct 30 round magazine model and capacity. What a disgrace.

Doesn't actually make a lot of sense most of the time. The original M16 and the A1 variant were full-auto only, and that should be the only ones used for most if not all of the Vietnam War. Then the A2 was made burst-fire to help conserve ammunition. The A3 and A4 are the most modern, the A3 being full-auto and and A4 being burst-fire, but otherwise the same. In most CoD iterations, all but some exceptions in campaign missions, it's always burst-fire, and that's a shame.

Credit where credit's due to Sledgehammer for depicting the most realistic rendition of the sights, by having the rear aperture sight be actually low enough to be protected by the "ears" of the carry handle. (P.S. I know the modelers change the sights to be easier to use, but still it irks me to see it sticking out so far up.)
IW never managed to make their M16s look authentic. Treyarch did a better job with that, especially in CW, but they fucked up the mag sizes and the rear sight apertures are always way too big. Also, what I hate is that the front sight disappears when you mount optics. That looks bad.
I really hate how the M16 is so done so wrong all of the time in COD. Whether it be a 20 round mag holding 30, or how the a4 is full auto in cod 4 campaign. Also that for some reason the largest aperture rear sight is always the one used. I remember when Cod used to try to be historically accurate. COD 1 and 2, great games other than not being able to reload the Garand until you shot of all 8 rounds.
Cold War is such a wasted opportunity considering it is a direct sequel to BO1 in a similar setting. Not only is the game lacking polish, it's also anything but a complete content package. They could have done so much more for 6v6 multiplayer with more time and resources (should not have split them across Fireteam, Combined Arms and Gunfight). Instead we got a barebones 6v6 experience, a Scorestreak system that is not rewarding at all considering you can die and continue progress and the Cold War theme is ruined by 2025 maps (Raid and Express), clown skins, anime skins and dragon reactive guns.
It looks like they did that to clear over the bit of Picatinny rail mounted on the carry handle.... even though it's evidently the A4 upper receiver so the receiver itself has top-mounted railing, that the carry handle itself is mounted on, completely negating the need to mount rail on the carry handle itself since it's not integrated onto the gun??????????

More of a balancing in multiplayer, why use an m16 when you have an m4 and vice versa.
Call of Duty 4 also had a full auto G3 in its campaign. Also an EOTech Holographic sight not usable in multiplayer.
In campaign that's the m16a1 we want. Multiplayer is A2 if you look at the lower receiver closely.

The 20 round magazine in CW hurts, considering BO1 had the same mistake.

That version was one of the earliest versions called the M16A1. It, along with the later M16A3 are capable of full auto.
Also the multiplayer versions of the A1 are depicted wrong, other than Cold War as that has the A2 variant which is capable of 3-burst.

Advanced Warfare's M16 has the worst-looking sights out of all of them but it's the most arcuately depicted and I hate that it is.
