Rewatching this even though I own the full ARO, ouch, the hate in the comments! Dudes if you can’t afford it, just wait for sales (which happen very often with SA) or let it go! I mean, this is so deeply sampled, offers a lot of legatos, a lot of microphones, all of them are usable and the mix / record is amazing! This is the first library that I literally just need 1 bell EQ to get the sound that I want! the mix is so good… Percs are the same. very dynamic too. Can´t wait for the Abbey Road Brass and WoodWinds ! hope we'll get that must-have woodwinds library that we are all waiting for, which is, thanks to SA, Luke and Simon Rhodes, very likely to happen. Can´t wait. I guess it will also "deserve"😂 a Blakus video. Cheers 🎉
@@dpetrov32 Competitions seem to be left apart btw, Think it was Christian Henson that was working on it, bcs it doesn’t happen since he was canceled. Was a good opportunity and exercise tho.
For clarity, I am in a fortunate position where I receive most libraries for free these days as I tend to help devs test things, but that doesn't mean I do videos on all of them, in fact mostly I don't. I only show products that I really love on this channel. Spitfire (or any other dev) has not paid me for any walkthrough videos, and I made this video because I wanted to. Thanks, all!
Very useful to hear your perspective. . I can see there are some complaints below, but this recording seems phenomenal - the engineer gets my respect. I bought the violin and cello pro tonight while watching the walkthroughs, including yours. It's not perfect but neither is Pacific Ensemble Strings. All these efforts are worthwhile and I'm thankful these particular sounds were attractive enough for someone to achieve. Thank you for your work in this industry! BTW, percussion is out now. I don't think they included the release but the close mic on percussion is pretty tight on the surface - probably different than recording a string instrument.
Sounds lovely. It'd be great to have the independant vib control. I'm playing along with Pacific Violins and love them too. It would be great to hear a piece played with Spitfire V1 and then Pacific to see how they compare (hint hint)
blakus what do you think about using the TEControl USB MIDI Breath Controller for strings, brasses, etc.? I am tempted to buy it after having seen it in action on some VST orchestra recordings. 💸
Symphonic strings is only going up to C# for me, so jealous seeing that this goes up to E because I have a project where I need to hit these high E's on first violin
Btw @blakus you should have a written disclaimer in the description about if Spitfire either paid you for making this walkthrough or if they offered you the library for free (seems to be the case) or both. There should be total transparency about this when you're reviewing or giving your thoughts about a product, by law even.
True! For clarity, I am in a fortunate position where I receive most libraries for free these days as I tend to help devs test things, but that doesn't mean I do videos on all of them, in fact mostly I don't. I only show products that I really love on this channel. Spitfire has not paid me, and I made this video because I wanted to. Hope that clears this up.
Hi blakus, would you mind if I ask how you make a note/chord hold infinitely (kontakt latch mode maybe?) on one instrument while you play another instrument ? I've been looking for this for quite some time and still can't understand :( Thank you very much for the walkthrough anyway !
I am probably really late answering this but maybe it helps you or someone else in the future: 1. Play a chord with the sustain pedal pressed down. 2. Keep the sustain pedal pressed down, release the keys, and switch to a different track. - If necessary, arm the new track by ensuring its record button is red (disable recording on the previous track). 3. Release the sustain pedal and begin playing on the new track. When switching back to the original track: - Press and release the sustain pedal as needed to stop or change chords.
Nice short notes, nice low dynamics sustains but most of the legato transitions and the overall expressiveness suck, very synthy. It could certainly be useful as a layer for the room but will require a LOT of work and layers for a realistic result. Another issue : €319.00 for the first violins only... (The music intro at 0:34 is great).
Great review Blake! :) Do you usually add some convolution reverb to blend the Abbey Road libraries with other in your template, or do you just send everything a little bit into your Bricasti unit? :)
In a world oversaturated with Strings libraries Spitfire comes out with a library containing only the violin section and asks for 340$ (with intro price). Even after ending support for those who bought the original Abbey Road library. Insane! And people still promote the company and act like nothing happened. No wonder they'll keep doing shady business and marketing.
The abbey road library that you have and this one are two completely separate entities, Spitfire had been pretty clear about that from the start. The one you're talking about is "AR1 Foundations", a completed standalone library. This violin section is part of the "AR1 Modular orchestra" (same line as the Percussion that was released earlier). The "support" you're referring to in regards to the library that you're talking about, Foundations , is yet another product line called "AR1 Scoring Selections". This is in fact not support at all, but another standalone product line. They were pretty clear about this from the start. So there's no shady business here, you've just misunderstood the somewhat confusing product lines that all share a recording space.
If you look at the initial cost of the Core version, it's very similar per player as the Scoring Selections they previously released. There are roughly 4-5 times more players.
why even bother offer a cheaper cut down version of a pro-aimed/priced library? I love the sound and glad someone made an abbey road strings/orchestral library. somewhere in thier marketing and company plan they miss the mark. still waiting for the studio strings pro mics to be fixed. they are just poorly run when it comes to product control
Sounds nice, but in my opinion it doesn't sound any better than half a dozen other string libraries. And $359 for a single purpose library? This is clearly aimed at pro users who have money to burn (if they haven't gotten it for free).
Shouldn't be about money but about principle. This company made it clear that they would be updating past libraries with legatos and they didn't. And now they're selling what they promised as a different , overpriced, library. Even the "pros" shouldn't be condoning this behavior.

@@danieldecker2711 Well you can't really say that these are the legatos they would have done for abbey road one as these are just V1 and they are significantly more detailed than would make sense for a scetching library. But i already loved it.

Not yet but the main dev said the samples are there and it's only a matter of implementing said recordings, so probably in a future update

Totally agree about re assigning vibrato depth to mod wheel. I remember EW Hollywood strings also had this built in. Makes a lot of sense
It’s the one reason why sometimes I still grab for EW Hollywood strings. It’s an amazing feature I wish others’ had.
It just sucks when you want consistent vibrato and expression controls
Awesome!
