Hello Jonah, si Langing (Kano). My asawa (who named me) grew up in Davao City, married me in 2001. Ever since, I have repeatedly “attempted” to learn Bisaya by trying to understand a book I bought that I know was well written. I have been unhappy that I could not learn, and have been blaming myself all this (long) time for not being able to learn Bisaya. I say all that to highlight the fact that your Bisaya lessons are a kaayo easier way to learn the language. Until now, I could not purposefully put together a proper Bisayan sentence. I would just smile whenever I recognized anything she or her family said! But now that we have a plan to move there so she can immerse me in the ways of the Filipino people, which has made this Bisayan learning process essential. My hurdle now is memorizing the key ingredients, which will require persistence, but from watching THIS one lesson, I am convinced that I will be able to learn Bisaya. I owe you many thanks, maganda Jonah! Being able to converse, well, that may be another problem. But daghan salamat to you for doing the excellent job you did in producing this lesson. I like your gentle way of teaching.

Akong mga ginikanan gikan og Leyte, Nanay og Tatay ilang ipatawag ug ang bed kay higdaanan. I enjoy listening to other Bisaya speakers from different places because although dialects of Cebuano Bisaya are mutually intelligible, after a while, you will notice the differences. :)
School - Tunghaan in bisaya its common to say eskwelahan, eskwelahan is close translation in Tagalog, but Tunghaan is unique bisaya translation for School
Hello Jonah! I’m half Pilipina and I’m trying to revise my Bisaya, because I stopped talking it for years. And I think a way that could help to recover my Bisaya is if you could maybe do a bisaya vlog or just a video where you only talk in Bisaya! Maybe document your day or talk about things you like, which I think would be a great way to learn Bisaya! It’s okay if you don’t do it though, it was merely a suggestion/request ^^ I just really want to be able to talk Bisaya again and be closer to my distant relatives. That’s all! Sakyanan is very common for cars and generally small vehicles. I think some people use auto/awto for cars. I've never heard of "kotse". The word for parents is ginikanan.
Please emphasize that kuya and ate are really tagalog words but we cebuanos are now using these 2 words. Teach them the correct bisaya term, which is manoy or manong, inday, dodong.
Normally, tagalog people use ate for elder women and kuya for elder men but in bisaya, we use ante if the women has a great age difference than the speaker and angkol for men.
It’s CEBUANO! CEBUANO! CEBUANO! What do you call the Waray and Bohol dialects? Or even the Ilonggo’s Hiligaynon dialects? They are all VISAYA dialects.
Putot: someone who’s short. Usually used to describe a person who’s short in terms of height. Mubo: short. Can be used to anything that’s short. Sometimes, it can also be used to describe a person too.
Cebu has no now schools to learn bisaya. . I have 7 years here learning and most of these online lessons don’t help me. Online lessons ask pesyo sa America. Very risky. Asy suggestion?
Hey, I'm also here for almost as long as you. Online resources for learning the language are very much lacking, and if you consider learning Grammar, it's virtually non-existent. This is probably the only one I've seen that explains grammar extremely well, and that's considering that Bisayan grammar is complex and the words change depending on context. It is not directly relatable to English or other Latin languages. Visayans are also very fond of shortening words, much more than English speakers do, and it's a natural part of the language. The best way to learn is to practice by speaking with Cebuanos. Videos like this are great to get a head-start though, to help you make sense of something that generally doesn't seem to make sense.
@@adtc i agree with you. However, I no longer am “supervising” a construction project. I learned all the names of tools, materials, construction verbs both there and at the hardware stores. I speak near perfect Visaya until somebody starts explaining something outside of my vocabulary. Slow down? They believe I’m fluent. Explain vocabulary? Not often. At home is where nobody has patience to teach me. If my grandkids get old enough, they might be my best hooe. Their English surpassed my Visaya months ago. They have a native speaker to correct them almost 24/7.
Is naglimpyo really the correct word for the past tense of limpyo? My wife (from Bohol) is telling me that nag is a present tense prefix. And that "gilimpyohan" is the correct way to say "cleaned". At least one other site indicates that nag can be either present or past tense. However, your instructions for this particular set of prefixes does not mention this. Your instruction only mentions that the prefix "na" is used for both present and past tense. Very confusing this language - Cebuano. I'm not trying to be insulting - your efforts are appreciated. I just want to know what is the proper way to say the word.
Nanglimpyo is used if the focus is on the doer (present and past aspect). Nanglimpyo mi. We cleaned. Gilimpyohan is used if the focus is on the thing(s) being cleaned (present and past aspect). Gilimpyohan niya ang kusina. He cleaned "the kitchen."

Agreed. never heard of "tunghaan" but always hear "eskwelahan" a lot. Perhaps it's Spanish influence.

I live in Cebu and I've never heard anyone say "kotse". Seems like it's a Tagalog word, and people say "sakyanan" in Cebu when referring to cars.
