  • Looking at how to improve sight reading as a guitar player?
If you are only playing guitar occasionally for fun then probably not, although sight reading on the guitar is a very beneficial skill to improve for many reasons. The downside is that the guitar is a very difficult instrument on which to learn to sight read.
This video is intended for guitar players who know the basics of sight reading and are trying to improve their sight reading skills. Hopefully, these 10 sight reading tips for guitarists will be helpful.
I recently discovered an excellent tool for practising sight reading. As mentioned in the video, www.sightreadingfactory.com provides an online resource that randomly generates music for sight reading practice. I have found this tool to be extremely valuable both for my students, and for myself. Anyone who redeems the code PaulHillSRF at checkout will receive 10% off their order.

All the advice hits home! I've been progressing so well for a year but my technique far surpasses my sight reading. I didn't know what I was doing wrong as to why my reading hasn't caught up yet. I was too dumb to realize that it was because I wasn't practicing rhythm, i was irregular when it comes to practicing (sometimes not practicing for a whole week, sometimes i practice for 6 hours), i kept staying on my favourite key and time signature, and i was avoiding other clefs. Well its time to change, thanks for the vid.

Well done, Paul. I will suggest my students watch this as there are many great tips here for singers and instrumentalists alike. I particularly agree with your advice to keep going, not to stop, - very important.
