Excellent presentation and answered my questions! Thank you! FYI - if you have to have bloodwork done just ask the phlebotomist for a few pippets. They normally will give you a few of the 3 ml. 😉
Nice video only would have appreciated it more if you included steps to take for each reading OUTSIDE of the normal range. (levels too high/low) But did enjoy the video pace. Thanks
Nitrates are food for plants. I wouldn't bother changing them unless they were hitting the red 160ppm. And that would tell you that you have an unbalanced tank that your system cannot deal with the excess that is building over time. Better still add lots more stem plants. Floating plants are even better, reduce your feed and even move some of your fish if necessary to balance it out if you find you always have rising nitrates. It's the least of your worries and most commonly due to overfeeding an overstocked tank with understocked plants. Do the above and try and settle the nitrate content over 10 to keep your plants happy and up to 40ppm and you will have a healthy balanced tank. Hold your tubes up in front a white background, but not against it as stated in their manual, as you will get darker colours showing, giving you higher readings.
I would siphon out about half of the water in the tank and refill it with water that's treated with Seachem Prime to de-chlorinate the incoming water, and then add just a little extra to your tank to help minimize the ill-effects that uncycled water can have on any existing fish. You might even need to do this daily until things are safe for your fish.. I use Seachem prime at every water change, you don't have to use a whole lot.. I have an African cichlids aquarium, and my tap water has high KH, it appears not be a problem but it is in the high end of the spectrum. Any suggestion on how to lower it?

Good tip about running water over the test tubes post testing BEFORE trying to remove the caps. This will certainly help reduce test tube breaks
Exactly, thanks!

I bought and use a Turkey blaster for the same purpose. Cheap and effective.
Nice video. I just bought a 10ml syringe to draw water
Yeah That’s a good idea too.
Omg?!! What about water test strips???

Great suggestion! Are you having any specific issues that I might be able to help with?

So what do you do when these are high?

Hi how should I clean these test tubes after I do the tests?
I just rinse them under warm water and leave upside down to dry with the little test tube holder.. (Rinse the lids out too)
